The topic of frame sliders had been touched a few times it seems but I have never seen them on an F. I know they'd need to be longer then the case but from this pic of a set on a ZRX1000, they totally look like they'd work...

Image
I have crash bars but I'd way rather have the above.

Crash bars look way too "cruisery" for my taste. I would still rather have protection they offer but sliders would definitely be nice Confused

Well then do the PoPoSisco treatment!

I bought Aluminum Frame Sliders for a 919 on Ebay (2 sets) and mounted them front and rear on the bike. There is a hole just below the exhaust header that you can put a bolt in and then I used the other set on the rear sets. I got a longer bolt for the exhaust hanger mounts and put on the slider shimming it out with some washers for added distance.

You could get more creative, but I was just looking for mount spots that existed on the frame. Oh, and I do have an after market NOS Connecticut Cycle Works Engine Guard on that I got from a guy on Ebay from Canada couple years ago.

Hey thanks for the pics! Those front ones are shorter then the case it seems. Damn, it also seems that if one was to have sliders that are long enough, they'd be looooong! Confused
Good job on the back ones though!

I don't know if they would, somebody else should answer that. They are Hondaline. Not right now, if some frame sliders turned out to work, I possibly would though.
I had to lay the bike down slowly once at a stand still(my wife fell over on me with her bike, don't ask) and I could not find where the hell it touched the ground and that's probably because I had those on. So they DO work well, at least for that.

Thanks for this thread. I never knew what a frame slider was.

I dunno there Batan, those crash bars you have look pretty good on your bike to me. Actully they're the first one's I've seen that I like. Just tell people its plumbing for the turbo.

You are right David, they do look pretty good for what they are - crash bars. I don't hate them, but I don't love them either. They look quite good from the side and 1/4 view like in the picture. But I don't like the way the bike looks from the front, it reminds me too much of ugly 80s cruisers.

Something to consider with the case guards, I don't particularly like the look either but a few years ago I hit an oil spill in a parking lot and did a low speed low side dump when the front end slid. My leg remained under the bike but the case guards provided enough clearence between the frame and the ground that my leg didn't get mashed flat by the weight of the bike.

I just dropped my 750 yesterday when I stopped and put my foot on a patch of muck. Down she went and I broke the left front blinker and scratched up my NOS ignition cover. Damn, I wish I had something to protect the engine. I don't like the engine guard either so I'm looking for some frame sliders. They need to be about 6" long to protect the cases.

I had a set of "case savers" on my 900F back in 1981. I had a low-speed, low-side crash and the middle bar of the "case saver" broke one of the main case bolt lugs near the alternator.

5.5" may be enough. I ordered a set that are 6" long. I'll post some pics when I get them mounted.
