I have an 1100F Engine with serial # beginning in RC-O.I can not for the life of me figure it out.All other motors that I have begin in SC11(and Believe me,I have a bunch).The jugs say 1062cm and it turns over.The guy claims it is an '82 motor and sticks by it.

What do I have?

Is there a stock oil cooler? If it is a case from a 750, there has been a LOT of work done to get the 1100 jugs to fit. Sounds interesting.

Phil, FWIW I have 3 engines and a set of cases I just checked.

CB1100F = SC11
CB1000C = SC10
CB750F = RC04E
Unknown Cases = SC11

I was told the cases came from a 900F but now I'm thinking they're 11F.
I hope someone with a 900 will check in.

in it. No idea if it is original.

for the life of me i have never been able to figure this one out....Honda claims the 1100 was available in the US in only in 1983.....they state that the export version...CDN and EURO was produced in 1982 and 84.....never seen 1 or can figure this out. I have contacted Honda Canada and got no were. they will not release the production #s or have any clue about the bike. or maybe they just will not tell....maybe you have a diamond in the rough...do some research and you could be rich ...LOL

I thought the Honda engine/chassis codes were a pretty rigid formula from late 70's onwards....actually more or less starting with our "modern" bikes!

The first letter indicates capacity (so a P = 500 to 600cc, R = 650 to 800c and S = 850cc+) and second letter indicates function (so C= road bike, D= Trials bike and E = enduro) THe two digit number just indicates the specific model

So an RC01 is a CB750K, RC03 is a CB650Z, RC04 is a CB750F and so on.....
An SC01 is a CB900F*, SC02 a GL1100A, SC03 a CBX1000A etc...
SC11 is a CB1100F...specifically a D model year bike....

( digressing to BASM's point a mo, model years are introduced at different times in different markets UK got new model years from around Feb onwards.... I believe Australia would get the same model a bit earlier, say the October of the year before - which makes sense around the markets biking "season" if you think about sales - so you might get a late 82 CB1100FD in a southern hemisphere market, most will be registered in 1983 and a few sat around on the shop floor that don't get registered to 1984...or if some maniac does have a crated 11F and could get it to pass inspection, you could have one registered in 2010!!!)

So Wamkap, looks like the possibilities are you've got something based on 750k cases OR possibly someone's restamped your engine number with something fictitious - fancy posting a picture of the engine number so we can compare with other RC01's?

Here is picture of Engine serial #.

Looking at the list above it must be these cases,RC04 CB 750 FA-C .Some one must have modded the cases to hold 1100 pistons.

When I was taking the picture I also noticed that crankcase breather tube (on the clutch side) is much smaller diameter than a normal 1100 tube.

I think I am going to part this motor out.My Son and I unloaded it today,and garage is full.

So if there is any interest just say so.Con rods and crank may or may not be forsale (I have another 1100 engine going to a member and I do not know what it needs)But it needs one or both.I promised him the parts to rebuild the one I am selling him.

The head,jugs,cases and other bits will be forsale.

looks like it.... RC04E-21xxxxx makes it early A model 750F cases (so these might be he "heavy" cases with the "donut" mark) : could well be someone's choice build of all the "best" F components into one package. I'm guessing a careful tear-down may reveal other differences/donors - may not even be just 1062cc any more Very Happy

Must be a ton of other non-stock cues as this would be a rigid mount engine! I'd assumed it was in a bike but in fairness you did just say "I have an engine": could be a really exciting competition build (not HRC but good semi-pro).

As you are parting it out, my only regret is I'm not closer to you...but as it stands the shipping would kill me!

E is the engine, the chassis number doesn't have the E.... but mostly starts with the same 4 digits

Middle of the night here...but perhaps this http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=56408&highlight=heavy+cases this might give extra info....depending on what you find when you look further at the engine, sonicrete or one of the racers might be best person on the board to talk to about this engine.

Sounds right... so if you have the 750 cases with the stiffening ribs (as on the 1100's) then you've got the best of all possible worlds.

Both of my 1982 & 1983 DOHC 750 motors have the "Donut" mark. My 1979 750 does not.. I believe the 79-80 & 81 750 motors do not.

Hi Phil

The numbers on that motor were stamped individually. See how they don't line up, and are of inconsistently depth?

All of the motors I have seen have been either engraved or stamped with a gang stamper (all letters and numbers on one tool).

My guess is this is a set of replacement cases. Why they bothered to stamp it, or used those numbers is a mystery to me.

Jim

How ya being?

Here is a doughnut case.

Notice the mark next to the oil outlet. Pretty sure it is an excuse to charge more for a product more than anything.

Go to this thread and it explains it.I have to agree with JSG on the stamped part.This motor has about 5 coats paints on it.
