A while back I told some of you about a nice '82 900F that I found in the cellar of the woman I bought my '74 CB750 from. (goto to http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=54230&highlight= for a refresher on the topic)
After work today, I finally met up with the actual owner of the bike who brought it there over 4 years ago to use their motorcycle jack. He wanted to take off the wheels and put on new tires. It was running, but for whatever reason, he lost interest and never titled or registered the bike. He's now at a point where he doesn't really want the bike and is willing to sell it. He paid $1500 for it in 2005.
Fortunately, he still has the Comstar wheels (with the old tires still mounted) and the wheels are in beautiful shape. The best part is that he'll probably take $700 for the bike. I think this is a good deal, considering that it has under 19K on it and is in excellent original shape.
So we'll see...I have a lead on another 900F that I have to investigate and then I'll decide what to do.

Outstanding! That's a great price for an F in that condition.
It has an 1100 rotor cover, you sure it's really a 901cc? |

It's a 900F alright, unless someone went to a lot of trouble to make an 1100F look like a 900F! Seriously, I think the original cover must have been damaged and somehow an 1100F cover ended up on there. I would definitely change it to the correct cover. I'm a stickler for stock OEM when it comes to older Hondas. |

He is talking about just the motor, not the whole bike. The 1100f motor looks identical externally to the 900f motor (besides the stator and ignition covers), you might just have an 1100f stator cover, or maybe its an 1100f motor. If its an 1100f motor you need to jump on it for $700, even if its a 900f motor that's a pretty good deal.
A quick way to check is look at the front bottom of the cylinder (right side I think?), it will either be stamped with a 901cc or 1062cc.
I have a 900f stator cover I will trade you for the 1100f stator cover when your ready? |

Left side of the motor, at the bottom of the fins. A 900F motor will say '901cc' and an 1100F motor will say '1062cc'. |

If it was an 1100, wouldnt the clutch cable be on the other side of the housing (front side)...or is that only certain 11 models? |

My perspective (and the usual perspective used) was sitting on the motorcycle.
But I can see how you should probably tell someone in a perspective of looking at the front of the motor. Or at least tell them the perspective your using. |

Could be, or it could be an R engine with a 1100F alt cover instead of the wombat...now that would be a neat find.. |

All the clutch covers and cable brackets interchange. You never know what they used.
Its probably a 901cc motor being how original it looks, but the 1100f stator cover makes it slightly suspicious. |

It's likely that I'll be over to see the bike at least one more time, so I'll check. I pointed out the cover to the owner and he had no idea it wasn't the right one for the 900F. He never registered or rode the bike, so he really didn't know what he had. I'm not even sure why he bought it in the first place!
I've seen a number of scraped alternator covers. The one that was on my 750F had a hole ground right through it. My guess is that the original was damaged and for whatever reason, it was easier to replace it with the 1100F cover. Go figure! |

I think you should just buy the bike for 700. In Australia it would be ~2000 for one in as good condition. |

Yep, same perspective. It's just above the starter, right? (or should I say correct? haha)
Either way, are you going to pass on this one now that you found the deal of the decade elsewhere? |

Gotta be a 900 motor. 1100`s don`t have the silver cap in the middle of the clutch cover, unless that cover was changed also... |

I'll probably pass on this one for now since I got the other one. Having two of the same bike/same color would be a waste of garage space. I suppose I could turn it around and make a profit on it, but I'd rather see a fellow Honda enthusiast get a good deal on a nice bike.
Anyone near MA want it? |

Sorry, I simply don't understand why. One for The odd days of the week, one for the even. Seems perfectly logical to me. |

Yup, sorry man... I'm spouting misinformation here. Just above the starter is right and the best directions I've heard to finding this cast mark. |

Hey TomK, you're a lucky guy, that bike you just scored was an unbelievable deal. I'm interested in this one if it's still available, can you let me know?
I'm in Littleton, and know the Princeton/Holden area pretty well, the ride around the Wachusett reservoir is an old favorite.
Thanks,
