don't get me wrong, I love modern sport bikes and you can't compare our bikes with them. It would be great to have a 32 highboy and a new Porsche in my garage (both blue of course). The only thing in common is they both have 4 wheels.

Our modified bikes are a hot rod thing, can't really be explained or rationalized. In my case, certainly not cost justified...

But it sure is fun Cool

risers, yep, I had them, i sold em on ebay, along with the high screen..nope, bike is perfect for me as it comes, I let the wind hold me up and i like being out in the clean airflow..kinda like my old f bike.. Smile

i have done 2200km non stop more than a a few times on this bike and i always want to get back on it.. They really are hard to beat...thats why i gave up finding a replacement..

I am not one of those fortunate individuals that can fit on a modern sportbike, which is one of the many reasons I fell in love with my F bikes years ago, (even though I do look like a circus bear on a tricycle when I ride on my F's).

Each bike in my stable serves a purpose for whatever mood I'm in for that style of riding. From a "balls out" hooligan bike to one of the most modern bulletproof touring motorcycles of today.

BTW, I am currently considering a B-King! Twisted Evil

Dave, i am assuming you are a long-legged F'er.
I am only 5'11" with a 32" inseam and i could not fit on the B-King during a demo ride. My knees were bashing into the tank.
Have you ridden one?

Agreed, love the idea of the Hayabusa motor and all the aftermart support for Hot Rodding in a standard style bike.

At the dealer I walked around it looking at it and....I just couldn't do it ..The width at the tank across the radiator was a deal breaker.

Just couldn't do it.

If Honda gave me Hayabusa possibilities with that new 1100F, I could learn to love it.

I'd rather ride my F than any of the other bikes I own. I need to figure out whats making the noise in the engine, but I've been trying to get my XL350 running right. I did a frame up restoration on it, including an engine rebuild, but have not been able to get it running well--carb problems. I think I have a bead on it though because when I removed the air cut-off valve it ran great. I think I have a plugged passage in the carb somewhere. Its part of the charm of riding old bikes. I can find nearly all the parts for this bike new in the box.

I was told they were just right for the "big" in me, (36' inseam) and was planning on riding one next weekend at a demo ride.

Not even gunna justify Nitro's inital question..

I have the meager lil' 750's..

I get clobbered on the straights..sometymes in the turns..

Parts are expenseive(relatively) when found..

And I wouldn't have it any other way..

These are riders' machines..not plastic queens..

They represent the essence of early 80's motorcycles..

When women were loose..coke was everywhere..and no one knew what the hell AIDS was..

Basically my youth..

Big Dave on a B-King?
Go for the demo ride anyways. Maybe your legs are long enough to bypass the tank knee cut-outs.
The demo ride i happened on was too controlled to get any sense of the power of the brute. Too bad. There is a guy the next city from me with a set of Yosh undertail slip-ons and an 8" round headlight on his B-King. Much improves the look in my eyes.

I love my Blackbird. It is just plain too much fun right now. Poor old F hasn't run but around the neighborhood this year. I has fresh oil and spark plugs, though.

There are decent used bikes out there. There are bargains, too. I found one.

I don't think it is a question of being nuts.
There are many reasons. Some are financial, these bikes are cheap to buy, insure, repair and operate. Some are more sentimetal or emotional. You can't beat the sound of a nice 4-1 on these 80's bikes reving at 9,000rpm. It's also a great hobby to be able to repair them by yourself (+ cheap). We all spend hours doing this mechanical business. On modern motorcycles, you already have to spend at least 3 times more time only to remove the fairings and then, once naked, there's nothing to do besides fluids level check.
Being french (or myself), I would compare that to women. I rather have a practical averagely good looking girl, which is fun to be with and shares great sex, rather than a high maintenance boring top model that you have to touch only with gloves.

That's my opinion.

My 23 year-old son Chris thinks it is fantastic. He traded in his 04 Ninja 650 for one. I rode it, it's wicked fast, and he hear's dad's "you go for rides NOT race!" lecture all the time. It is not my cup of tea either, looks like some sort of transformer.
