I'm planning to paint the pipe, it is a little rusty and dirty. going to sand it and prime it and paint it with the high temp. paint...
what color do you guys think it would be good... black is always cool but i want something different, ive seen the exhaust paint in blue, red, orange, black, silver....
maybe ill go for silver... give me some opinions...

Make sure to use REAL high temperature paint.
1200 degree is not enough it will burn right off.
There is a ceramic,I believe VHT,that is like 2000 degree and has a chance to stay. |

+1 to Sonic's advice on paint.
IMO, the only colors an exhaust pipe looks good with are chrome, black chrome, gloss, semi-gloss, and flat black. Can't imagine any other colors that won't look weird or worse.
Consider leaving the pipe the color it is now and, instead, removing paint from clutch cover, alternator cap, ignition cap - polishing them out and clearcoating. Also use a sanding block and sand paint off the edges of your cylinder block fins. That'll brighten things up and provide extra contrast/highlighting for your ex. pipe. |

Willy, since you've asked for opinions... I think the black looks fine on your bike!
I don't know for a fact, but it seems hard to believe that a color will remain consistent over the length of the pipe, based on the wide disparity in temperatures along the length.
Call it one vote for black.
IMHO. |

Probably not a bad idea to drop a line to Pontiacstogo. He has a black Vance & Hines on his bike and his stuff always looks very sanitary. I think he said he paints his once a year. He's probably tried numerous products and would have a very good idea how the various exhaust paints compare in terms of durability. |

Although I voted for black this morning (and would still keep it black, if it were my bike), I just want to remind you that it's YOUR bike... None of us paid for it, it's your name on the title, and you should do with it what makes you happy. If silver doesn't work out due to paint discoloration or some other reason, you can go back to black later. I should have put these couple of sentences in my earlier post, my friend. |

Personally I prefer black, but if you ever ride in the rain, it will get a dirty discolored look to it no matter what color you paint it. Any paint I have ever used needed to be freshened up once a year or so to keep it looking good. A wire wheel in a drill works great for removing rust, and for removing any unwanted company watching you work as well. Have fun . |

On Kerker meg, I painted header flat black and megaphone section silver. The inside of meg at the back and the rear cone of baffle VHT high heat white. Black exhaust soot staining up the white inside reminded me of a rocket booster exhaust. I got a lot of favorable comments on it too. |

the old high temp paint in the 1970's and 1980s was white and I remember seeing a lot of flat white painted headers on drag cars and bikes when I was a kid. With retro race paint schemes becoming popular again I would suggest a flat white paint just for that old school down to buisness look. |

here's another picture of closer look
you can see the VHT paint isn't dark black, it's more like brownish black.. |
