Finally, after all this time, the bike is done. I put 2.5 miles on it driving it around the block (more than once). Seems to run decent, considering it's had a 19 year nap. Odo now reads 12275. Now all it needs is a chain and sprockets. Here's a pic:

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone. The bike is not that nice. The frame is a little buggered up by the neck, it had a fairing on it (yuk). The tank is stained on the top, the tail is faded, the side covers have some scratches, and the front fender has had brake fluid spilled all over it (from PO). The camera did wonders, but it looks good enough for a 29 year old bike. Thanks to everyone who answered questions and offered advice.

Ah, the wonders of digital photography! Full frame shots make everything look great, close-ups make things look worse than they are.....go figure.

Is that a 79?

It seems like I've seen twice as many of the silver 79s as I have the black. Anybody else agree with that statement?

This bike is a 1980, at least that's what it says on the tag on the neck. I don't know the history of the bike other than the PO stored it in his garage from 1990 to 2007 (when I acquired it). This bike has the 1979 wheels, the 1980 gauges, 1979 carbs, and it had a 1979 tank on it (the rest of the bodywork was 1980). The old brake hoses were stamped 10/78 and also had tags on them saying 10/78. I should check the engine number to verify what year the engine is, but for now, I'm just enjoying and getting used to riding again. I've put on 10 miles in 2 days. Pretty good considering it has no plates or insurance (I'll do that next week). Happy 4th to all you F ers.
