Value of your F and cost of restoration

Now that "1 sad F" is almost complete I started to reflect on cost,time and value.I am sure this was brought on by my trip to the paint store where I spent $328 for 3 pints of paint,1gl reducer,tack rags,ect. Shocked

I never look at total cost untill the end or I might think twice about it.With a 1 year model like the 1100 how do you place a value on one?With every one that is broken down for parts there are fewer left.I can only look at value to me.In doing all the work myself it saved a lot of money and has been enjoyable.I saw on a web sight that you can buy a fully restored "sandcast" CB 750 for only $29,500.Sounds like a hell of a deal! Laughing

The 1100 was the last of the air cooled superbikes so if you have or find one keep it running!Look at value to you today because I think value to others will be there tomorrow. Very Happy

Now,what do you guess as total cost of my restoration and know that I am allowing $300 for seat?

From what I see of pics.(don't kill me on this) Parts=$2,500-$3,000? Your time & labor=forget about it! You can't put a price on that!

I would have to say about the same as Rat maybe even a little higher. I'll go 3500-4000

I have been keeping track of the parts I am buying for my rebuild and just in parts I am up to $2058.81 labor who knows that number does not include the first go round.

I always had a budget similar to that which a comparable bike of today would cost as that was my first intention, to buy a new machine. Her indoors suggested once it became apparent there was nothing on the market that I like that I should spend the budget on restoring my F to 'as new condition'.
So i did.
Total spend to date is about 6k english pounds so I'm slightly under budget Very Happy

Biggest outlay has been a 'new' motor which cost about 3k in parts.

When it's totally finished I may post a break down of costs for comparison.

Well lets see, since November I have purchased new airbox boots, lattice rearsets, nos Euro controls and cables, Ohlin shocks, new chain and sprockets plus countless other nos unmentionables. That is about twice the price of what I gave for the bike in 1983.

this stands me at around 6K GBP,total strip and rebuild,as some of you have said some things the little lady is best not knowing

I have zero idea what I have into mine. I've sold/traded probably $2500 of the stuff that I bought for it, even so if I had to guess I would say I have say I'm probably $3000 into it now.

That isn't for just a restored CB750, it's for basically a new 1969 CB750. It would be as close to (or better than) a time capsule bike as you can get.

No this is exactly what I hoped for.To get everyone to think of the cost but also know the value will most likely increase.I have $4200 give or take $100 and that includes what I paid for the poor thing.The 750's for $29,500 are basicly new.The company purchased all the 'Sandcast" bikes,parts and NOS parts they could find and they build/restore to as new.Just used that example to show what things can cost.Now my wife only say's "you spend so much time, I think you have sex" Laughing

I work with someone who bought a sandcast when they came out and still has it. What a buy that was.

As for my own bike, it's not going to be worth much more restored than not, but that's not the point. It's just MY bike. I couldn't sell it for more than $1400 restored because there are so many 750s out there, even if I make it a 913. I'll have over $3000 before I'm finished and it will hopefully run great, but I won't be able to sell it for anywhere near that. Might be able to part it out for close to that though (if it blows up and pisses me off).

I can safely say I have put about $7000 in getting my CB1123 where it is today, including some spares and many upgrades. How much is it worth to me, you cannot afford to buy it. I have a couple other newer bikes but the 1123 will be with me for many years to come. It is a one year bike that I have made mine. Enough said.

Why trouble them with trivia like how much the latest box of NOS parts cost. They're not really interested in some grubby old bike parts anyway.

There are a few more things that I need to get like brake lines and I am sure there will be a few other things. And the first go around was roughly $1200.00 to get her on the road.

I've always played with old cars. This is my first bike in 30 years and I can't wait to ride this thing. The money you're talking about is nothing if you compare what it would cost to play with an older car improving it's appearance and making it go fast. A new motor alone or paint job blows away what most of you have in your bikes not to mention the labor. That's why I'm likin playin with the bike because it's so much easier and cheaper. It's a beautiful thing. You guys have built some beautiful bikes fer sure.

I will agree with you 100% I built a high 11 sec. 1968 cutlass supreme back in the day about 30 yeears ago and it was big bucks then I can only imagin what something like that would costv now

Costs less to go 11's now....Barring the cost of the 68 Cutlass itself...LOL they have gone way up.
