It was suppose to have a 985cc kit in it and I bought it around 5-30-2008. I wish I could find my paper work or bring up old post.

I would not be handling it this way.
Do a "search" for 985 motor in the wanted/for sale section. Then contact the person privately and give him a chance to respond before airing it out in public.

powerroy is the only guy I know with a shop in Arizona, and he is a stand up guy 100%. You might want to tone it down a bit if you want to get a hold of him, it's not his fault you don't have your contact info.

I'm gonna let him know you're coming in case it is him.

Took a total of about 3 minutes to find what may be the thread.

I just talked to Roy on the phone and he will look into it after he gets home from work this evening.

It definitely is a 985 Wiseco pistoned motor, BTW. There is a thread here about when he built it. He pulled that motor out of his silver bike and put the 1100R motor in it. Before he did the swap, he rode that motor to L.A. and the Grand Canyon with a bunch of other people from this site.

You do have some nerve, I'll give you that.

Roy rebuilt a guys motor for free so he could get around not long ago. Guy can't work, has no money and his bike was down for the count. A bunch of us threw money in for parts, and Roy did the work for free, and threw in some other parts too. You don't find guys like Roy hardly at all anymore.

Their was a lot of people interested in this motor at the time and everybody seem to know him so maybe you guys can help me out. Or maybe the guy from Arizona can read this and give me a call and explane why all this is bad on this engine that he thought was so good. I am pissed of course who wouldn't be. I took the guys word. So nobody buy anything from anybody from Arizona because you may not know who you are buying from it could be the same guy that screwed me. If your out their Arizona man give me a call now. cell 309 297-0548 the bike is still sitting on the bench waiting for your call. Just from reading the old thread the stator was a (freebie) throw in after the fact (TDem's charging system)? He clearly stated NO charging system included. It's 4 month's later and you posting all this??? I think your out of line.

I will stand up for roy too, he has sold me stuff before, some stuff for free to help out. He is a hell of guy so before coming on here and talking about being screwed, lets get his side of the story along with that fact, your the one that lost all the paper work, and not know how to get a hold of him, so it isn't like he's dodging you either.

I understand your pissed, I would be too. But I don't believe he screwed you.

I know it has been for mounths that is how long it took to get the shop to put the motor in. I thought it was no problem since the guy said it was a good motor and that is why I threw away all my contact info. But here I am with a motor a guy said was good and it is not. I am just telling the FACTS.

I would be interested in seeing pictures of the brass in the oil, that would be a first for me.

I've seen brass in the oil, it's usually the stupid chatter plate rivets.

Where would brass be coming from? Will it be a problem? What about the crankshaft where the stator bolt srews into the end of the crank is cracked and their is a lip where someone has put a puller on it and screwed it up? This is on the crankshaft. Now if he is so wonderfull he had to know about this.

I sent Roy a private message. Thank you for the help. I am sorry I am so harsh but I have been looking foreword to this engine all summer. I bought brand new carbs new exhaust just for this motor. Now I do not know what to do. I guess I will just have to rebuild my old motor to a 985cc. What can Roy really do? He got $1200 plus my shipping and I have nothing. Unless someone want to buy a engine that was built buy Roy. Hay everybody here seems to think he does good work so it should not be a problem.

Sounds like the crankshaft is mushroomed from the rotors being pulled off several times. Being its a press fit, I can't see it being a problem.

How did you determine it wasn't a 985 bore?

Where did you see brass in the oil? Did you drain the oil? The brass shouldn't be a problem just change the oil and filter and clean out the pan. Be sure to get a new pan gasket first. Put it on clean, NO SILICONE, in fact no silicone anywhere on one of these motors!!! If it is the clutch chatter plate rivets that went bad, you'll need another chatter plate in the clutch pack. I have one you can have if need be, or maybe Roy does.

Are you sure it's the crankshaft that has the problem and not the rotor? The rotor does not get removed with a puller like a regular 3 pronged jobby, that WILL ruin it for sure. If there was a puller used on it, it wasn't Roy's doing, he uses a bolt like it should be done.

Maybe you should look at the Honda Shop Manual for the bike. It's available in the Technical Documents section here. Sounds to me like your bike shop pro might not understand these bikes either. One thing is for sure, Roy does, and he wouldn't ham fist up a crank or rotor. I've pulled the rotor off my 900 at least a dozen times over the last 25 years with no harmful effects, and Roy knows how to do it at least as well as I do.

Also stators rarely go bad on these motors, but the rotors fail frequently. Maks sure which is which. The rotor is on the end of the crank. The stator is in the cover that goes over it.

Who does this? What shop put the motor in ? Did they damage the crank taking the rotor off? I've heard of people using an impact tool to strip the threads(in the rotor) but never heard of the mushroom crank you describe.

Did you even try to find the thread where you bought this motor to resolve this dispute civilly before you throw accusations out there? Your "excitement"
sounds a lot like a bad excuse.

Get a hold of your self! Did you do a leakdown or compression check and see that the motor is not sound?

I would be asking the guys I hired to put the motor in to show me the Honda rotor tool they used to remove the rotor. Or did they use a regular gear puller?

You need to provide more information before you accuse some one of ripping you off in public. Your story has a lot of holes in it.

How do you have brass in the oil when that motor was shipped dry? the charging system was a free-be that I tossed in so why are you bitching about that?(and it was working when installed) the crank shaft was ballanced and damage free when it was installed into that motor, pull a spark plug and look inside the cylinder- see that large dome with the valve cut outs on top of the piston? that is a 985cc kit.

*removed all is well*

I thought you'd have shipped it dry Roy, that's why I asked him about draining it. Maybe his bike shop switched motors on him. Confused

I had a bike shop switch a head on me one time. Actually they say it was the machine shop that did it. They put the head back together and put the motor in the bike and that "newly rebuilt head" smoked like a mosquito abatement fogger. They had to get a new head and do it all over. That was the last time I ever let a bike shop work on my bike, and how I eventually wound up here.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if that guy dropped off that motor at the bike shop and those fookers did a motor swap right quick. It's hard to drain the oil out of a dry motor. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the support guys, all I know is the motor I shipped was the one listed here, in fact I would not be afraid to put that motor back in my bike and take a road trip from border to border

You see Roys ad. What would you do if you bought this motor and put it in your bike and found out it was no good. He said, it is a turn key motor. Roy told me that all I had to do is put the motor in, add oil and go. So lets see here. Roy sold me a motor that was turn key and it is not. Now if Roy is a machanic as eveybody says he is here. How did he miss that crankshaft being screwed up. We all now from the add he had that stator off he says it right in his ad. You can see it plane as day that the crankshaft is bad. That stator is junk it is burnt smell to it. The brass in the oil. I don't know what to think about that. But I know he had to know he new about the crankshaft so he must know about the oil. He said he was sending a new oil filter with it and he did not. If you do one good thing and ten bad things does that make you a good person because you did the one good thing. So what do you think? You see the ad, you buy the motor on the man's word that it is good. You can not put it in your bike yourself so you have the local shop do it but their busy fixing other people bikes so since your a nice guy and your bike is still running and you believe what the guy is telling you about the new engine being good, so their is no hurry to put it in. Know the shop has time, they put it in and it is no good the shop did not even get it off the bench. You have been waiting all summer, bought brand new carbs $700, new exhaust, and your hopeing their will be a little more warm weather left to ride your new motor. But no you have nothing. What kind of mood would you be in. I would think the nicest guys would be pissed if someone screwed them. I don't care how much charty work he has done. Their is nothing he could possiably do to make the engine right. Because I am the nice guy and am going to just take it up the ass as nice guys do and move on. I don't expect him to do anything. I bought a engine on his word and his word is no good. I want people to know that Roy can not be trusted. So go ahead fire back at me. You see the ad and I can show you pictures and send you a oil sample if you want. Maybe Roy is just trying to get back from what he gave in time for free, from other people like me. I don't know. Here it is 9:00pm ILL. time and Roy is still in hideing. Some honest guy can't even call me I gave my number out and if he call me I can give him the number to the shop that is installing the motor.

They put oil in the motor. It was leaking out the oil filter cover. They took the oil cover off to check it out and found brass in the oil filter. Otherwise we would know nothing about the brass in the oil right now. Just the stator was not charging and they checked it out and that is when they found the crankshaft end is bad.

1st) Everything is sold "as is, where is" if you didn't inspect it yourself thats your problem not the sellers...

2nd) Never, ever, let "some shop" work on your bike...full stop.

Did you write down the serial # on the block when you got it? If you didn't then how do you even know you have the same one?

Randy you beat me to it...
Matthew, It sounds to me like you owe Roy an apology and need to go after the real culprits the shop that either switched motors or screwed up the crank. If you can take a different tone I'm sure the guys here will help you figure it out.

We have members in IL, what is the name of the shop? Do they work on vintage Honda's regularly? This whole thing smells of ignorance of Honda DOHC motors.
