I am starting to get organised for a winter rebuild on my trusty 750 Boldor. I have put together a stock of parts and have some excellent although daunting examples to follow in 1981CB and Andy (on the Aussie front). Hopefully this can be completed by next summer and I have not decided if I want to go 1100 or 985. Something I will need to make up my mind on soon .
The bike now (it's the one on the right, not the black scooter )
The new body work (except for the right sidecover)
New instruments, which style to use not yet decided
New crankcases
A few of the other Honda genuine NOS things
900F crank cases - solid mount
1100F alternator cover
1100F ign cover
900F chamfered ign cover
1100R cam chains
1100F tensioners
1100R cam chain guides
900F primary chain
900F primary chain tensioner
Left and right switches
Complete ignition set (ign lock, tank lock and helmet lock)
Wiring harness
Spark igniters
Sarter solenoid
1100F alternator rotor
1100F alternator stator
900 ign advancer
1100F euro speedo
1100R tacho
750 (Au style) speedo
750 (Au style) tacho
1100F pilot light box
New top and bottom cases for both styles of instruments
1100F Euro headlight bracket
900F headlight bracket
FC front and rear rotors
Rear dual piston caliper
Big bag (150+) of older "thick white metal" style con rod and main bearings
Carby boots and rubbers
1100F Euro 39mm fork legs
Gearbox bearings
Oil Pump
Seat hinges
Horn cover
Fuse cover - Euro style
Left and Right air cleaner covers
1100R gasket kits top and bottom
900F gasket kits top and bottom
Cam cover rubbers (lots of these)
Brake lever - Euro alloy
Gear Lever - Euro alloy
Foot pegs, full set of Euro alloy
900F intake and exhaust cams
Transmission gears - various
Clutch friction plates A and B
Clutch steels couple of sets
Clutch chatter plates
1100F mirrors - black plastic
CBX mirrors - black plastic
750/900 mirrors - chrome
Most engine hanger bolts
1100r rear brake torque arm
1100F chain slider
Indicators
Taillight lens
Clutch cover (1100F and 900F type)
1100F clutch perch
Headlight shell
Headlight complete
Most of the rubber bits for the bike
Aside from the new Honda bits I also have for the makeover;
1100R camshafts (if I can get the head cleaned up enough)
1100F (as an alternative to the "R" cams)
Wiseco 985 kit (unless I go with 1100R rods, then I need the kit for the 17mm gudgeon pins)
1100F Euro lattice plates (with alloy pegs and levers)
1100F swing arm - already powder coated with new bearings and bushes
39mm front end
4:1 stainless exhaust
Frame will be drilled for 1100R alum tank ( has an extra 6 litres)
1100F oil cooler and conversion kit
Nippondenso platinum spark plugs
1100F carbies
Yoshimura digital oil temp/voltage thingy
Braided brake lines - next on the to buy list
Silver FC rims (2.5x18 and 3.0x18) all ready with BT45's on.
So I have all the bits now I just have to extract digit from rectum, find time, and start building.
Edit small spelling correction |

OMG. You can just get a frame and build up from there. Wow nice "lust" of parts. Now I know why everything is out of stock.
Actually, lookis like you will have a brand new bike when you get finished.
IMO ==> Use the Red Number gauges (thay are sexier).

Winter gets cold ~10 degrees Celcius and rains every second or third day - not ideal riding weather However I will have the 1100F on the road soona and I always have the scooter. |

I already have an original 1100R tank and the seller "glassman" seemed to disappear when the eight legged one had problems.
There is a NOS tail piece and set somewhere but the man is disturbed and wants a silly ammount of money for is. |

A few more of the refinished and new bits to go on the rebuilds.
The garden shed where it all happens
Some powdercoated bits. The powdercoated cam cover was the worst one of the ones I had. It is not perfect now but still looks 100% over how it did before coating.
A nice pair of "Mickey Mouse" meter covers
Some NOS meter holders, 1100F Euro, 900F Euro, 900F2 Euro, and a powdercoated 900F part (clockwise from bottom left).
A couple of sets of used and powdercoated oil cooler hose clamps
The Head collection, part A.
Donor Motors 3 and 4 (900FC and 1100FD)
A couple more bits and peices including an "R" tank

Garden sheds are always good. If you are ever in Perth drop by and say hello.
Sometimes I have two little helpers who reduce productivity considerably. However I bought some xxs latex gloves which fit them really well and I set them to work cleaning up the floor . Airconditioning has made life better in Dec/Jan though. I'm working on the big screen TV and DVD player (have both it's just convincing the wife that the shed's the best spot for them).
I met another F er through an ad in quokka. He brought a couple of 900F's with a box full of NOS parts (worth far more than he paid for the two bikes). I think he has joined here and I have had the pleasure of helping him plastigauge his main bearings to size them for new ones.
Once I finish both Boldors I will rationalise the parts, keeping 1 spare head and barrels for each bike and Fleabaying or otherwise selling the spare stuff. |

Thanks for the comments on the garden shed, I had a long time to plan what I wanted and personally supervised construction. During which I supplied the brickes and roofers with food and cool drink. It's amazing how otherwise labour intensive and expensive things like brick arching over the door and windows actually gets suggested by the brickies when they are well treated.
Other than 985, lattice plates and alloy pegs, 39mm front end, silver boomerang comstars (18" with 3.0 wide rear and 2.5 front), ss brake lines, and perhaps a slightly different seat, it will be as stock as I can make it. |

I've not ventured to the west yet Jeff, got to about 20km of the top end border once but that’s as close as I got. Its on my want to do list, so when it happens I'll let you know. It would be good to catch up with another "F'er".
I've gone from a reasonable workshop, in my last house to something I'm frightened to park my bikes under, and I hate working in it. I think to do the best job you have to be happy in your surroundings and you certainly have that covered! Your right about tradesmen, being one I know, if you get a good client you always go out of your way for them, and maybe do a little extra than you would normally.
How do you find the plastigauge? I read somewhere not to long ago on this site that it leaves an indent into the bearing. Never having used it before, I'm now weary of it after reading that. I have to at some stage get stuck into my R motor and check all the tolerances, to see if it needs bearings and stuff. I'm hoping not because its gonna get very expensive if it does .
Anyway look forward to seeing your bike come together Jeff, the ingredients are all there . |

Not NOS but paint is nice. It actually has a late model flush mount, locking cap installed (by PO). Makes it a bit safer from bogans pouring something in the fuel.
The amazing thing is how light the tank is. When I first got it I thought the guy had shipped me an empty box. |

Sorry Mark, you got in while I was writing.
I did look at these bearings very carefully after plastiguaging and could neither see or feel a difference. The fact that every mc and car repairer recommends the use of plastiguage is good enough for me. Just hard to imagine how a bit of soft wax can imprint a metal shell. The biggest problem with plastiguage is getting the bloody stuff to go and stay where you want it, not to mention how annoying it is when the whole stick slides out of the cover and disappears forever on the bench.
My Dad's workshop used it all the time and never saw any problems.
I got the inspiration for the garden shed from my Grandpa. He had a reasonable one and it was one of the secrets to domestic harmony. When you feel a bit stressed out, retire to shed for an hour or two, relax fixing something, then when you go back to the house your wife has missed you!
The shed is double brick, plastered, 10 foot ceilings (insulated), with a 18m2 loft, has a kitchen sink, gas heater, and the all important toilet (cone of silence). My dear wife keeps talking about parking her car in there - talk about laugh, it's all I can do to keep a straight face when she mentions it . |

That's not a shed fella, that's a *palace* I'm extremely jealous of both the shed, and your collection of goodies. Now get out there and start building I can't wait to see this thing come together.

Man that is nuts! Farout I have been poned. I am so lazy getting my CB looking good, let-alone tackling a rebuild and resto job. The 900 motor I got badly needs a guts revived and I could do it using my Haynes Manual, but I gotta get a plasigauge too, as I rebuilt my car engine myself, but didn't take hardly any precautions with it....
Bloody sweet paintwork and powdercoating - I swear my CB had the same colour scheme in the beginning as yours does now. |

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Not much happening on the resto front due to work and family. Might get a bit of time over easter though.
Do have another consignment of NOS bit and peices coming from over east soon, so will add to the collection a bit. |

Not much to say yet except that I brought 2 900's (FA and an FB) with a swag of new engine parts for an ok price. So now I have to fit them in the shed as well.
I did get my new rear disk from the US this week and on the 3.0" x 18" rear wheel it looks pretty good.
My next haul of parts is on its way and in it I have a new set of NOS Euro CB1100F fork legs as well as a set of Tarrozzi 39mm Euro CB900FD fork legs - so it looks like the 750/985 is going 39mm with TRAC. Also scored a NOS 1100F oil cooler.
I wil be sending a couple more 1100F box section swing arms off for powder coating ( a slightly different silver) and so will have a spare swing arm or two to help finance the project.
This is what the one from my 1100 looks like compared to the coated one.
All the arms are being rebuilt with new bearings and lower shock bushes - while they are out I can't see any reason not to. |
