Anyone have tips and pointers on how to use a center stand with out
hurting yourself...

I figured out very quickly that I am not smarter then my center stand and I need
help...cause I must be doing something wrong...

Granted I am not weakling and think I have the basic concept down...

one foot on centerstand
hands on handle bars
push down on stand step
pull back on bars
SKREETCH....

take two...

long story short..I got tired of burning my leg on engine case and used swingarm stand to
get ass off ground then put centerstand down and moved swingarm stand...

Now that you've stopped making jokes, I welcome tips to make this easier.

Thanks

J

Where in Bucks County are you? Probably easier to show than explain.

There is a previous thread on this question from another member that got quite long with suggestions.

1. Stand on the left side of the bike facing it.
2. Left hand on the handlebar, right hand on the passenger hold.
3. Put right foot on centerstand bar, put center stand in contact with ground, lean bike to right until both legs of the centerstand have ground contact.
4. STAND with all your weight on your right foot (the one that's still on top of the centerstand bar), pull gently up and back with both hands.

should easily go up on the stand.

Yeah, right hand on the passenger grab bar I do also. But put your heel into the centerstand and concentrate mostly on pushing through your heel. Its not so much about pulling the bike up, as it is guiding it back and pressing down HARD through your heel.

I am gonna have to practice Zen and the art of the center stand...LOL
Now I've gotta snag the passenger grab rails off my other parts bike
because the 750's are missing and it's the only one with a center stand.

thanks

Its all about standing down hard on your right foot, even lift your left foot off the ground a little so no weight is wasted there.

Morrisville... about three miles from Oxford Valley Mall....

If you are willing to show me a thing or two..dinner is on me.

Otherwise I'll try the steps presented (once I replace the grab bars)

Thanks

After grunting and damn near giving birth putting a 650+ lb. Concours up
on a centerstand an F is like putting groceries in the trunk of the car. Put
the heel of your boot into that sucker and step down hard.

Just for the record, just how far is it from Bucks County to Altoona, Pa?

The way I put my bike on its center stand is to stand on the left side of the bike hold handlebar and passenger grab bar and press down on the center stand, after the bike falls on its right side I pick it back up and go get someone to help me......works every time. Laughing

Um..... holding the bike up??

Cool

The F isn't TOO hard getting on the center. If you think that's tough, try a CBX. Then when you've mastered that, try my GS when its up above 800 lbs....

CBX's fall onto the centerstand, ask Glenn. Wink
I just removed the centersatnd from my own CBX yesterday morning before I got food poisoning in Frazier Park.

Went for the vintage Japanese motorcycle show exccept they had it the day before and we missed it. So we stopped and ate along the way home and I got sick from the food.

Glenn, I may be slightly burnt Rolling Eyes but I do have a pretty good memory. Wink

I see that in your driveway if you turned them around, gravity would be working against you but still they fall onto the stand.

Cut & Paste from the "F" archives (my two cents worth of technique).

Kniteshade,
Just a comment if I may Re:

"use as a helper to get the heavy-ass bike up onto the centerstand".

I'm going to take a guess here that you (like maybe thousands of others) have not discovered the easy way to get a bike on the center stand,..c.b.'s in particular. If you think that the work that Honda has put into getting your "F" running and performing like it does is just s%*t house luck, you'd of course be very wrong. Lots of work and engineering has gone into the design,..but you knew that right So, how could they drop the ball when it comes to the center stand thus making it near impossible for the average 300 pounder to get it up on the thing? Fact is they did not. Like the rest of the bike the center stand and it's function are very much a thing of simplistic beauty. Technique is all that's needed.

Ask yourself this, "Can I clean-n-jerk 600lbs?" No, most likely not. Me neither. But at my then ( time of purchase, 1982) weight of only 170lbs, I could snap the new "F" onto the centerstand with "one hand",..yep one hand. How do you do that?

1) Normal is to access the bike from the kick stand side,..left side of the frame. Take the left bar grip in the left hand, and the left lower grab rail in the right hand and raise the bike off the side stand,..balanced on the wheels.

2) Position yourself so that your right foot has access and purchase on the centerstand foot operation lever.

3) Push the center stand operation level down with your right foot,..softly, until the stands twin legs just contact the road surface.

4) Rock the bike ever so slightly until you feel both of the twin legs make contact square to the road.

5) (Here's the tricky part ) Now, with the center stands twin legs making contact and resting square to the road,..put all of your weight on the centerstands operating lever. DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT, even attempt to apply a lifting force to the bike with you hands. Just push your right foot to the ground. Better yet,..attempt to lift your left leg,..this will transfer all your weight to the right foot.

6) Like magic the bike will rise up onto the center stand in a rather controlled fashion, slow and graceful like. When you've done it this way once you'll laugh at how easy it is. Key is push the foot down,..not lifting with your hands. Hope this helps.

Only thing new to add to this old post is: The bike must be in neutral so the rear wheel can roll or your going next to nowhere with the center stand.

Tony

You do NOT stand on the bike.. Rolling Eyes Shocked Smile You STAND near the center stand tab, shifter side, put your foot on it, and PUSH down with your leg while pulling up on the passenger bar...

Piece of cake...

I can see the difficulty without the grab rail installed, but the trick is absolutely getting the center stand planted on both sides before doing ANYTHING. After that I'm sure my wife or daughter could do it. Practice in a driveway with a slight slope with the bike pointing uphill. It really is easy once the thing is square. Cool
