Hey AJ, I made the cover one time with my "children of the corn" pic. One of my very favorite pics is your 11F on top of the parking structure at night in LA. That pic should be on your T-shirt. OOPS, don't want to start no crap about t-shirts Embarassed

Ohh...saw a Douglas out the other day...very low seat hight but that's probably not the sort of bike she's after/you could find anyway!

Losing the British empire starting in 1776? not completely sure about that... anybody name the bit of continental USA we didn't hand back until 1796?

Problems caused by the British....list didn't seem long enough! I'd have started with "letting the French get hold of France was a pretty poor idea" [but when you've ran so much of the world you are bound to screw a few things up Embarassed

My FT is modified for my 5' tall 18" enseam(not really) wife. It has cbr f1 front end and I cut down/reapolstered the seat. Irene can sit on it very comfortably. On a stock bike I would just drop the forks an inch and put the shocks on soft and a miget could ride it anyway. Problem is now, I love to ride that great handeling wheelie thumper more than she does. Supertrapp and jetted too of course. thumpthumpthump

A small dual-sport is the best choice for a new rider. Let her spend some time learning to ride off-road before throwing traffic into the equation. A dual-sport also has excellent suspension that is really forgiving, and will glide over obstacles like tall curbs that could easily upset a big bike. I like the Kwak Super Sherpa 250. A classy, if slightly pricey dual-sport with stainless exhaust, full aluminum rims, electric start and only 260lbs.

If it must be a street bike, then I second the Suzuki 550.

Aren't dual sport bikes usually pretty tall in the seat? Way back in the day when I took my motorcycle license class there was one for the class, the rest of the bikes were Nighthawk 250s. Only the taller guys like me were comfortable riding it, none of the girls even tried it because its height was a bit daunting for them.

My girl rides a fire breathing Suzuki Savage, don't laugh, it's faster than my Harley bagger. I hate the forward controls but she likes them. She took the MSF training on a Rebel so I guess it's what you learn on. My vote would be for a Yamaha TW200, I think those little bikes are neat. My 2cents.

This is a first class little dual-sport (or enduro, as we used to call them back in the day.)
and light enough to actually be of use off-road. It is the street legal NA version of the Stockman, an industrial strength utility motorcycle used by ranchers in Australia. It is has a pretty high-tech air-cooled engine with a 6 speed and a special head design gives it 27hp*(use your bullshit filter here)

But again, the best feature for a novice rider is the ability to log some miles away from traffic where they can focus on skills and the bike.

I have a buddy that was selling a Zuki DR200 and I ALMOST bought it for the woman, but its pretty tall and the thing only has about 15 HP. You need to power to ride on the streets around here. You need to AT LEAST go 80.....

Thats most of the reason I went with the CB400

Yeah, that's the one! 260lbs, fuel injected, 11:1 single. The thing would be a riot. He passed me on a freeway limited to 80kph(50mph) with no trouble (and its super quiet) The one i saw must have been brand new and the guy just determined to ride though, it was only one degree above freezing this morning Laughing

There are several roadracing classes here for small bikes, NS50's, YSR80's and motards up to 150cc. I'm betting there will be a class for these here, if there isn't one already.
