Please excuse the dumb question, but what is Seafoam? what does it do? and where can i buy some.

ohh, and you can get it as auto part stores. Napa, auto zone, etc... Some don't carry it, but I find it at most places now.

You can get it at the Autozone on Vineland at Magnolia, or probably any Autozone.

It's good for getting the goo out of your carbs, about 1/2 a can to a tank, go for a ride run it all out. It will smoke some.

I finally tried some in my old minivan. Sucked about 1/3 can into the vacuum on the air intake, let it sit, the fired it up. After the HUGE cloud of smoke/steam dissipated, the minivan runs better than it ever has. I think it does much the same thing that that shops charge $100 for (injector cleaning).

I'm a new believer in this stuff !!
My F has never ran so good since I had it .....
I only used about 1/4 can in the tank and OMG .... after
about 200 km my bike is running so good ...
Only regret is not finding it sooner ...
No hype.... just results ..

Thanks for the help. I'm going to put some in my VF1000R and see if she will run clean. Failing that i think i'll kill it Richard Prior style.

The Pep Boys near me has been carrying it. It has been a bit hard to find, usually the autoparts stores would either be out or only have a can or two. PepBoys has a bunch.

What is the difference between Seafoam and Techron? I filled up once and got a bad tank of gas. I thought for sure carbs were bad. One addition of Techron and within seconds she was cured. I now add Techron once or twice a season. Also a few days ago I could not get my mower to start after sitting all winter. A couple of ounces of Techron and fired right up.

Should you add it to a full crankcase of oil or should you replace the oil with that amount of seafoam? And also, how long should you ride it? The directions for amounts are on the can I take it? Sorry for all the questions but I'm just trying to figure it all out before I buy some. Thanks!

A warning that we learned the hard way. Seafoam will eat rubber if used undiluted (such as in a carb cleaning capacity). My dad is trying to revive his '85 GoldWing. His carbs were gummed up so I recommended Seafoam because of how nice it worked for my 900F. I was thinking he'd put it in the gas and let it soak or something. He was thinking I meant to use it as a carb cleaner. It ate a rubber diaphragm in one of his carbs (the one he'd used it on).

My bike started leaking after using seafoam. I let the engine idle and rest with a few ounces of seafoam before draining the PO's mystery oil. The oil drained with some small booger-like pieces of dark sludge in it and the engine was filled with Rotella 15w-40. Once I ran the engine up to full temp a few times I noticed oil weeping from the cam cover, beneath the shift lever, and from the lower oil cooler fittings. The carburetors seem fine even though I ran the rest of the seafoam through my gas tank .

Maybe it was the seafoam? Maybe it was a high detergent diesel oil? Or maybe it's just old gaskets? Who knows, but now my bike leaves puddles at 3 different spots the week before I leave on a road trip.

Coincidentally, these symptoms are the precise reason I opted not to use synthetic in any old engine. Everyone has always told me that synthetics would wreck havoc on old engine seals, and if this is true, then it's a real testament to just how "good" of an oil Rotella is.

no doubt Seafoam can damage, especially if you let it sit. I've heard stories about all kinds of crap coming loose and floating about....

My bike (I know, it's not an "f") has been suffering gunky carb syndrome, so Sunday rode until tank was almost empty, dumped in half a can, rode another ten miles, stopped and filled up at the Shell station with fresh gas. I figured, what the heck, either this or pull the carbs. I took the easy route. Smile

Anyway, the bike runs fabulous now. Starts right up, idles like it's supposed to, and runs right up to redline without stumbling. Worked for me! Very Happy

BTW, Seafoam is readily available everywhere around here. I buy it at Farm and Fleet.

So, were you running primarily on Seafoam then? With just a little gas left in the mix?

Interesting, I didn't realize that would work. I've got a lawn tractor I forgot to "Stabil-ize" that doesn't want to start now. Maybe I'll try this trick on it.

I've used both the Seafoam and Techron. My unscientific finding is that the Techron works better, and it gets *my* vote. Cool

Dang , I thought Farm & Fleet was bought out by TSC and got transformed or absorbed ... ( use to work there )

Anyway , I haven't tried Seafoam , but I have and am running ' 104+ Octane Booster and Injector Cleaner ' . They recommend almost an ounce per gallon of gas . That does a fine job of cleaning for the first and maybe second tank full ( depending on how bad the carbs are ) . I run two ounces per tank under normal and everyday conditions ( when I remember ... CRS Disorder , ya know ? Wink

).

yep! you can on your car.
There have been reports of folk noticing clutch slipage after crankcase use, so I'd refrain from that.

I would not put it in the crankcase, and I wouldn't let it sit in the carbs for long either. Put it in the tank and run it out the same day and get fresh gas in there.

If somebody has an old rubber part like an old air cuttoff, it would be interesting to see what happens to it in full strength Seafoam after a couple of days. If it passed that test, then i would have no qualms about leaving it in my tank and carbs for extended periods.

Farm and Fleet's headquaters and main store is still hear in Janesville, and they will be building a new one soon on the west side of Madison. My wifes "favorite" store; smells like tires!!
F&F's cousin store, Fleet Farm, is still around too. Like anybody cared. Confused

hmm , isn't there an o ring on the bowl drain screw ?
and doesn't , at least some fuel rest in the idle passage which is regulated by the idle adjustment screw sealed by an o ring ?

I'm not the expert I'd like to be ...
