Well, there I was, searching the site for mention of decal kits, hoping to find a source. E-Gad, but not F-Gad, all kindsa hits but after reading a coupla entire threads, no mention of decals. Therefore, this post.
Could anyone please tell me where I might obtain a decal kit for an 81 black/orange 900F?
Thanks. |

Pontiac did you use decals from there? I happend buy that site as well. My plan is to ride this season and then in the winter have the local tech school paint her up. I was going to buy decals from CB and was wondering if you did and how everything went. |

Nope. I've spoken with Mark (AFE) a few times about having some decals reproduced that aren't currently available, but I've never used any of their decals myself. |

I have used the AFE decals and they are very nice. Even had them make up a decal special for me. |

One of our Australian members is already working with Mark on having this scheme reproduced - it's a Euro 900FC scheme. Not sure what the timeframe on them being ready is (and the longer the better as far as I'm concerned ).

Don't worry Peter, I am sure when that scheme starts popping up everywhere you will find another set of body work that no one else has... Then it will start all over again.. |

That bike looks better and better everytime I see it!!!!! I thought for sure you were going to make a dramatic entrance on our spring ride and I wouldnt get to use my hotel room because I would be stuck outside drooling all over the parking lot all night and day. I love it. |

I am the guilty party with the FC decals to go to Mark at AFE. Reading this post is a reminder that a few people are waiting/looking for this type of kit. I will pack up the decals for Mark on Friday night and mail them airmail on Sat morning. The fact that I have a complete set of this body work NOS (except for the RH side cover) is also an incentive. My FC bodywork is of course in the fastest colour. |

I saw a lot of 1100's at the NE Ride and some seemed to have the decal wind eraser effect.
So my question is "Can the decals be removed with out harming the paint so that new ones can be applied?"
Hard to see on this one but look at the red decals on the cover and tail and you can make out the white splotches. Not bad looking from a distance but very noticable up close.

to answer your question, no, its nearly inpossible to remove the stock graphics without re-painting. the problem is that the clear coat is OVER the graphics. i got my old ones to come off, with the help of a hair dryer,
but the graphics adhesive was left behind. anything i used to remove the glue residue that was strong enough, also removed the paint under it. (i tried wd-40, rubbing alcohal, hand cleaner, gasoline, carb cleaner and laquer thinner. the carb cleaner and laquer thinner worked, but softened and removed the paint, nothing else worked.) even if you could remove the graphics and leave no glue residue, it would leave a low
area without clear coat, and would be inpossible to place the new graphic
in exactly the same as the old one. also, the stock graphice have a satin finish to help the clear coat flow over them. you would have to re-coat the whole part to get a uniform glossy finish. good luck, adrian |
