I've decided to start a thread to better track the progress of my 750, if anyone cares that is haha. Anyways lets start at the begining

This is how she started. A family friend bought this years ago as a bike to run back and forth to work. He is a HD owner, acctually he's pretty crazy, even though he has a car he ride his HD to work, rain, shine, or even snow!! Anyways he couldn't get it to idle so he ripped apart the carbs and the bike sat for a couple years. I saw it one day and I asked what he was doing with it and he said he wanted to get rid of it so he gave it to me for free. he was missing like half the carb parts so I went on ebay and bout 3 sets for 40 bucks and had the bike running with it 2 weeks. Nobody thought that bike would ever run again

I really didn't like the original C look of the bike so I bought a F seat and the sub frame from a 70s CB750 and began adapting it. This is what it looked like when I first bolted it on

Obviously it needed to be shortened some, 4 inches to be exact. I also had to modify the cowl cause it hit the subframe. Almost looks factory don't it?

Now with everything painted flat black. I also added clubmans, which are modified cause I had to widen them. Now the bike is looking good I think

I broke a valve shim and damaged the bucket and cam. I bought a new head and took the bike apart. Heres the frame and engine

I repainted the frame glass black and everything that was flat black is now glass black. I'm painting the engine black too, I haven't done that yet cause I need to get a gasket kit and put it back together first

I'm going to miss that flat black look, Crying or Very sad . That bike always brings a smile to my face, everything you've done to it is a unique improvement. Thanks for keeping us posted. How did you make the fork brace? looks interesting.

Me too, but the freshly painted frame and motor would just look out of place with the flat black. Its made from the bracket to attach the stock C front fender to the wheel, I just cut off the rivets and seperated the fender

Well I mounted the rear sets today, that was fun. I had to cut off the passenger peg supports and the brake pivet passed through the frame some so after I cut it out and I had to weld the hole close in my frame. Oh and my swing arm bolt is to short, no one warned me of that, a couple people said I would have to shorten the engine mount bolt. Oh well, now I need a longer swing arm bolt. I'm going to go look at a dual front disc brake front end off of a 80 900C so hopefully I can get everything and put that on my bike too

Progress is slow moving at best. I finally got around to finishing some small dodads. I bought a K tank cause so many people said it would look good, well it doesn't on my bike. I did find a perfect looking C tank on ebay and I have a bid in on it right now. I still need to find a longer swing arm bolt for my rear sets to work. While I have it off I'm going to bring my swing arm to a few welding shops and see what I can do about getting a brace made and welded on. I'm having issues with the engine too of course. I'm hoping to have that buttoned up very soon though. Next will be me buying a set of 76-78 SOHC carbs and seeing if I can adapt them to my bike

Are you going with round or square tubing for the brace? Going to be up in Chapel Hill tomorrow to pick up my next F project bike (81 750). It's pretty rough, but for under $100 I couldn't turn it down.

What ever is cheapest lol I would like round tubing since the swing arm is round tube to begin with. Sounds like a sweet deal, if I knew about it I would have got it for myself, oh well. Are you using the front end? I would really like to upgrade to a dual disc front end Wink

Nope, it'll be F3 front end with F4 4 piston calipers on custom hangers. F3 monoshock rear, frame braced, and a modified tank with a modern type lid. Electronic tach and speedo also, maybe F3? There arn't any calipers with this bike, but I think I have some others in some boxes. And an 1100F engine with Andrews cams and maybe FI.

Well I mocked everything up after I got done painting some small stuff. I still need to finish the body work on the cowl (it had some deep gouges from the last owner) and get my new C tank in to replace my junked tank. I even mocked the header pipe in ther too. I still need to figure out what I'm going to paint her, I got some ideas like leaving it white, or gloss black with flat black scallops or flames, or some other straight color

Well I got my ignition cover, valve cover, and alternator cover glass beaded. The engine is almost together too. I guess I should clear coat the covers next, damn they do look good. I'm going to paint the engine black and sand the fin edges. It should look good I would hope

Well I finally have a update for you guys, first I would like to thank Powerroy for the new gas tank and JSGauto for the front scoop. I love this tank already cause the emblems aren't on there and the scoope I love, I do have to make my own brackets though cause the ones that came with it are butt ugly Laughing I'll fiddle with them some more tomorrow though and see if I can't get them in a more visually appealing position, anyways heres the pictures

Laughing I don't plan to, you were right about the gas cap needing work, luckly I have a ton of body work hammers and dollys, I am thinking about cutting it out and adding a flush mount gas cap though. On a side note I'm going to try getting the engine together tomorrow since I have the time

I too have just acquired the funds to perhaps finish my 79CB750k Cafe project. I am going with the F2 conversion, front wheel with 1100f Triples and GL1100 forks and brakes/ rear swingarm,wheel and brakes. I too have to do something about the rearsets on mine and think I am going to use stock F2 CBR600 rearsets, I cut the mounts off the frame prior to disposal. It is currently licensed/insured and daily driver but is in primer. I have to have some machine work on the fork lowers to handle the GL1100's caliper mounts and rebuild the forks. Lots to do, I am sure you all know...I will post a pic on Myspace.com/kevozpage so you can see it as it is today. I recently sold 3 bikes on Ebay, one to MS, one to FL and one to OK....now I can get back to doing what all of you have enjoyed whilst I could only dream. I thank all who post here and share info and ideas, you are all a collective teacher to many...

Well I guess its about time for a update, I haven't really touched the bike in a long time and I've been just shuffling it around the garage as I'm restoring my 72 442. I'm not far from completing it really, I need a few small parts here and there, paint the tins and put her back together, here she mocked up and outside last year. I was seriously considering parting her out for a while, but I don't think I could after all the work I put into her. I might just finish her in spring real quick so I can get some more room to finish the 442 also.

oh btw I have a CB900F front end now too and I'm considering taking the rear tail light/subframe I made out of her and take the blinkers off the front and run a tail light off of something else, I dunno, suggestions?
