Welcome - but first go back to your profile and fill in your location. You may just find someone from here that lives right around the corner.
Second - there are periodically postings and pics of F model chops that pop up. What you'll typically find on those postings though is a general feeling of distaste. However, there have been a couple of chops that were actually done pretty well. Usually the eBay section has most of those. |

if you do it, make it nice! i'm old enough to remember all the jap choppers from the early/mid seventies. some of those had very little stretch or rake, almost set up drag style. i say do whatever floats your boat. just read enough on this site so you know pod filters dont work very well with our stock carbs. |

Welcome brumie, thanks for filling in the thing.
Tech info we have, not too big on choppers here though. More likely to find racers, nicely modded street bikes, some nicely restored stockers, and plain old daily drivers. Performance, quality maintenance, and advice are more our speed. |

The search function in the white banner works great.
most manuals are in the tech doc section.
gotta question ask it like genesound said most of us here aren't to into choppers, though I've seen some pretty cool ones.
You'll find that some here will speak their minds on all kinds of subjects.
These bikes bob and cafe nicely, the Inline 4 is hard to go chopper IMHO.
But if it's info on the mechanics of the motor and types of shocks forks and such. That info is here. |

Do a keyword search here for any sort of technical info you're looking for and you'll find multiple threads covering EVERY possible scenario with these bikes - including modification ideas.
Also - you're from central Illinois, which means you're close enough to join a bunch of us next summer who are planning a few day ride event. Check out the thread in the Rallies, Rides Get Togethers section. |

Hey there Burmie and welcome to the site. Rarely you will see an old school chop frame for sale, but since most of us go more for sport/touring setups we don't keep an eye out for chops. Have at it and make it yous, but be ready for criticism since we don't care for em. Now if it's about making her run well, there are some serious experts around here.

Hey brumie~
Sorry to rain on your "chopping" tastes.
I'm not into the chopper thing and like to see these bikes reatin their sport heritage. It's your bike so do with it as you will.........
Welcome to the site anyway!! You can get lots of help on performance and maintenance around here. |

Hi, Brumie. As you've seen, most of us don't care for the idea, but as Grump said, you own it, so do as you wish. Seems to me, though, that it might be better to mount the drivetrain in a different frame if you're going to do more that a bob job or cafe setup. For one thing, they don't make these frames anymore, so it'd be a waste, but see my second sentence above--your choice. Still, it'd be like making a 4-door Corvette, or a Road Runner wagon: why?
Another thing is the availability of ready-made aftermarket chopper-style frames (this would be if you were going to go radical, like those hideous WCC or OCC pieces of offal, or even an early-70's 750-style mild chop). It'd be cheaper to buy one & fabricate the mounts than to modify an F frame.
Still another factor is the application. An F works the way it does due to the total package engineering. Yes, it's a nice, powerful engine, but for a chopper (again, if this is to be radical) you'd probably do about as well with a hopped-up SOHC. Turning wouldn't really be a factor.
You did say, though, that it would be more of a bob job, so I'd say go for it if you like and have the capabilities. Be prepared for negative reactions: I might feel the same as I do when I see a '67-72 Chevy truck scraping the ground. First, I think "What a retard!", then I figure "Well, it's his to do as he wishes"--then go home & give my '72 a loving pat.
In the end, it's your bike. TB |

Here's a link to a guys yet unfinished chopper on one of the Custom sites. He's doing a very nice job of it. I think it looks bitchin with the DOHC 750 Honda in it.
http://p2.forumforfree.com/-vp9115-cb900c.html#9115
He's gotten a little crap, but it just rolls off him, and rightly so. That thing will look sweet goin down the road. |

Hey there, I love choppers and think they are great. I have built a few and think that you can chop, bob or stretch anything you want. There is a site dedicated to honda chops called Gang of the Four. Do a search for the site and you wil find litereally thousands of people with chopped sohc and duals. there is alot of cool pics to. those guys are really crazy and a little nuts though so be ware . they all seem pretty cool and will give tons of advice. Peace out, have fun and welcome to the site! |

"82 cb 900f Boldor that hates me. No now i think it likes me? Lets give it time."
It'll only love you if you love it first.
I'm against stretching an F, or doing any extreme cutting on one, but so long as you leave mine alone, I'm not likely to harm anyone, just cuss 'em.
I grew up around Harley types. I used to lull myself to sleep planning how I'd build "my" panhead--raked & stretched, of course. I got a subscription to Easyriders magazine when I was 13--my folks paid for it ( they knew about the bikes, but not the mammaries; not caring about bikes, they never botherd to look inside--or maybe they did & my dad said that it proved his brainiac bookworm son wasn't queer).
You can recover from chopper disease. I'm living proof.
I have a friend of 30 years who recently worked for Gambler Motorcycles, writing their CNC programs. He knows & cares nothing about bikes, but it's just as well: they sell $50-75k bikes that are meant to be showpieces. 90% are ridden to the end of the driveway & back, if at all. Most are never started. Reminds me of folks who buy beautiful gold-plated, engraved & inlaid firearms: what do they think a firearm is for? TB |

Heya Brumie, welcome. I am just a lurker here but everyone here is most helpful and this site is plain wonderful. I have a 750k that I cafe'd and this site helped me get her running scary fast for the old man that I am....good luck with your project and if you have an extra triple tree or perhaps the entire frontend from one of your F's, I just might be interested.
later,
Kevo |

I say welcome too. I chopped some 750K`s way back when and had a good time.
Later i found i liked the stock configuation better and draged raced them and left choppers behind.
Two wheels, Is two wheels , If your here then you belong.
Of course not everybody feels that way here but dont let it get you down.
