Well I decided to email A&J cycle salvage and see what kind of prices they had for a CBR conversion. I got a good 900 motor from them for $500USD and it still runs pretty good.
Here are the prices...
F-2
Front rim-$250
Calipers-$50 each
Master cylinder-$60
Hoses-$10 each
Axel-$20
Caliper hangers-$20 each
Rotors-$125 each
Front fender-$65
F-3
Rear rim-$175
Hub-$40
Rotor-$60
Caliper hanger-$20
Caliper-$50
These are like the guys on ebay that sell individual bolts for like $5 and then the part that bolt goes to for $50. WTF? I think I will stick to ebay for the time being, its like they pulled these #'s out of there ass. |

be patient Ben. i got front and rear F2 wheels with all the hardware including sprocket and all rotors for $140 shipped. my first set i spent way more because the rear didnt have the sprocket carrier or rotor or axel. all that stuff adds up. but beyond a doubt they is no better way to spend money on these bikes. i even stripped and spray bombed the rims myself.
fat radial rubber is as close to nirvirna as you'll ever get on an F, and thats no lie. no more tip toeing around corners. coming in a little too hot? no problem. just grab that bitch by the bars and drop her right down. she aint going anywhere except where you want her to go. smooth and silky and planted. its F'ing sweet. |

Gotta be a patient ebayer... couple years ago I bought an F3 wheel with rotor, hub and spocket for $25.... shipped.
And about 6 months later bought and F2 rolling chasis (missing motor/carbs & body work) for $400
Deals are out there but if you're in a hurry you'll be paying for it. |

One thing I can tell you is that if they have an F2 front wheel that is straight and you can verify that it is good and usable you might want to just bite the bullet on that one. I went through two wheels and paid about that $250 before I got a good F2 wheel. You will have much less stress and heartache just buying that wheel locally. Ebay can be GREAT, but caveat emptor.

Ben I have an F3 front brake setup including hoses, calipers, and master cylinder. If you need it I'll give you a much better deal... Heck I think I have a front F2 front axle laying around here somewhere |

Salvage yard prices here in LA for late model bike parts are out of this world. |

Thanks anyway man, but I have all of that stuff coming from ebay. Except the brakes are only F2, but I am sure they will be good enough for me.

Salvage yard prices used to be roughly 50 percent of new list price. Ebay competition has brought salvage yard prices down but they can only go so low before they can not turn a profit. Salage yards have overhead expenses beyond many ebayers. They have storefronts and large inventory related expenses and wages etc. Many salvage yards now sell on ebay to move product. Ebay is generaly the way to go especially if you are patient. F2 front wheels are very much in demand due to speedo drive. They are used on Honda's and Suzuki's and on dirtbikes for Motard conversions. There are usually more buyers than sellers so they bring a premium. The F2 rears sometimes go for a quarter of the price of a front because most would rather have a 5 inch rim of the F3 and they are virtualy interchangeable. Hint, if you see a nice f2 front buy it if you need one, on most other items, be patient and try to get things at a reasonable price. |

I know what you are saying Steve. I have a straight F2 wheel with speedo gear, oversize brake disks and dual calipers. I am a little reluctant to sell it all off even though I am going with an F3 front. I suppose once I finally get the F3 setup working and on the road I will be very motivated to sell off the spares, but it is a tough choice knowing that F2 gear is getting to a higher premium each month.

I have three extra F-2 wheels and am now looking for a straight F-3 wheel to replace the Straight F-2 wheel on the front of my red bike. I am not selling any of the wheels I have yet and think that two of my spare F-2 wheels are slightly bent anyways.
I also have an F-2 rear wheel and think I will be putting it on to my CBX with the straight front wheel coming off the red bike. Then I will have a pair of CB1100F wheels for sale again.
So what do I do with all my spare wheels? Build another bike, that's what. |

Don't forget that many bent wheels can be straigtened. |

I'm sure there is a place near you that does it.
Look in the yellow pages under wheels.
Here there is a shop that will weld in broken chunks and fix up the squirlyest <sp> wheel.
We bang up a lot of rims up here in the winter |

Straightening a wheel is not cheap. I thought the F3 front wheel I had would be good to go, but it was bent. I took it to a shop in Sacramento called "The Frame Man" and they did a fantastic job of truing the wheel (bent in 3 directions mind you) for $135. If they had not been able to true it, it would have cost nothing. If you have a questionable wheel I highly recommend them. I know there are some other outfits in the midwest that do some pretty spectacular repairs, but they start at $165 plus shipping both ways. The Frame Man is a winner in my book.
