Well Early yesterday morning while I was hammering a stake into the ground with my 20oz smooth head hammer I nailed my hand pretty hard. I tapped the stake a could times and then decided to start hitting it hard. So I was busy changing how hard I hit it instead of aiming. Well, I nailed my hand hard with it. Inbetween my wrist and the first knukle of my index finger. I think I fractured the bone there. And there is not way to ride my bike for a while cause I can't use my index or middle finger without wanting to scream. Rolling Eyes
I can move the fingers but it hurts pretty good. The throbbing got better this morning so that made me happy but I didn't sleep good last night cause I kept bumping it. Really pisses me off when I hurt myself. And I am most likely going into the ER today to get it checked out to make sure I didn't mess it up too bad. At least get something for the pain.

This is a picture taken with my cell phone of the sewlling. Kinda hard to see but there it is. I wish it looked as bad as it hurt. Laughing

Well sorry Roy, but I am afraid I will not be riding for the New Year ride to the Flats. Not unless it is not bad, and it feels much better.

Apparently you're not in enough pain to prevent you from typing.
That sure was lucky. Rolling Eyes

Haha, I am typing with my pinky and my other hand. I can't even ue my flipping thumb because the thumb muscle pushes on that bone and causes a sharp pain. Yeah. I didn't need this right now, but I guess it's never the right time to hurt yourself.

So if your hammering something me carefull. God I feel stupid right now.

well at least it's your left hand, so that shouldn't effect your sex life. Unless of coarse your left handed.

get better soon. as a carpenter for over 25 years i recently experienced a new way to hurt myself, i was swinging HARD to get this piece of aluminum out from inside a vinyl railing. i slipped and with full force hammered myself in the stomach. anyone who's met me would think there couldnt have been any damage, but i have to say it was excrutiating for a bit. yesterday in a weird position i managed to nearly break my other arm with my own hammer. its pretty amazing how hard you can swing a hammer. Sorry to hear about your injury. Personally I like getting hammered once in a while. Anyway join the ranks of those of us who are injured and can't ride for a bit. I'm into my 3rd week with a broken ankle. 5 to 7 more weeks to go........

Thanks. Well the swelling is just about gone and I can feel that everything is in order. Just hurts, so I don't think I have any more than a crack or really bad bone bruise. I should feel back to normal pretty quick and till then I have my hand in a sling to help me tell myself not to use it. I have some old Percoset (sp?) that still work great. But only 3 left from when I had my wisdom teeth pulled a while back.

Oh well. Just remember that when you use a hammer only to swing hard if your using both hands (Like a sledge) or you have your freaking hand out of the way. I should have been using a sledge hammer in the first place, but I was lazy and decided to use what I had in my hands. Rolling Eyes

You should be fine by then, just take it easy for a few days, and keep some ice on your hand

Haha. My same left hand has survived a meat slicer (6 stitches), a framing gun, (16 penny through 3 fingers, stopped in 4th) dislocated pinkie on ladder rung, broken wrist from mountain bike, shattered thumb from breaking rocks as a kid with a sledge hammer. My right hand rarely gets hurt bad. I have come to understand that is because I weild the weapons with it because I am right handed. Laughing

But I also play bass right handed it's getting harder to feel and use the frets with my picked on left hand. Crying or Very sad

I sliced the top of my thumb one time right to the bone between the first and second knuckles. It laid open like a sliced sirloin. I could see the bone in there, and I'd cut the extensor tendon clean in two so i couldn't straighten out my thumb. It's still a little stiff these many years later, but it doesn't interfere with my bass playin, that's something else entirely. Laughing
