I just received my credit card statment and there was a 1217.10 paypal charge I never autharized. I called paypal and they were aware of suspicious activity and said they would take care of the charge and told me how to dispute the claim. Hope this works out.

Tie it to a completely separate bank account from your other bank accounts. I never keep money in my PayPal account for long - I either cash it out, or spend it (mostly spend it Wink ). When I cash it out, I then transfer or withdraw the funds from the bank account it's tied to.

If anyone ever manages to get into my PayPal account, they're never going to get away with much.

Never make a payment through paypal with your bank account. Always use a credit card when possible. Using a credit card gives you a better second line of defense.

Banks aren't always so swift on reversing charges. Credit card companies, due to the huge amount of competition, are very eager to reverse charges for the purpose of good customer service.

I was in a situation where I bought something and never received it. I believe the sellers e-bay account was hacked. Paypal said: You deserve a refund, but there is no money in the paypal account so you don't get anything. I turned it over to CITIBANK and with no more than a phone call the charges were reversed.

Paypal also only gives you 30 days to dispute a charge. I had another situation where I got stiffed by a seller from the UK. Seller said they sent the item, sent another replacement item, and then promised a refund. Of course this all took more than 30 days. Credit card company to the rescue.

It is your money, take as many precautions as you can. E-bay and paypal are first and foremost in the fee collecting business. Customer service and guaranteed safe transactions are a distant second.

I always use a credit card with a low cap on it. I never use my bank account. I had a friend who is a computer consultant, that had his paypal account hacked by someone.

Use a long password mixing numbers, letters and characters and don't make it something easy to guess or something an asshat thief can find out.

I use one credit card only for paypal. All my other credit card purchases are on a different card. As said above, you never want to put your bank details out there.
