DAMN good movie!!!
I just finally got a chance to go see it.
Very good movie and the extras have, Burt Munro Offerings to teh God's of speed.

Awesome. I can only hope to be a man like him when I get old.
This guy feared nothing.

Well, I said I'd buy the CD. I rented it through Netflix.

The documentary supported the info shown in the film. Well worth watching the movie again also.

Found a quote oout on the web from Tony Hopkins - he said it was the best film he's done. (personal opinion)

Well, folks, I think I can safely say that I am the only member here who has beach raced against Burt Munro (Oreti Beach, Southland, NZ, 100 mile race, too long ago). I was a kid just graduated and raced my road bike with numbers on, lockwired etc. The race was essentially 50 lots of two one mile straights: there and back, there and back. I battled with a 7R AJS the whole time.

The Indian stayed on the trailer and Burt rode his Velocette. Hell fast in a straight line, not so good at stopping and turning. His gear was every bit as shabby looking as in the movie, but worked well and you could see the thought and design.

Some artistic licence in the movie, but not much; in my recollection, things were much as shown. Mind you, the distance of time lends enchantment...

I do believe that the romancing was not so far off historical reality.

Yeah, Dave; it is a really sweet movie; as someone else said, there's stuff there for motorcyclists, but the bike is just the vehicle.

(Couldn't resist that).

We watched the movie when Blizzard and his wife came down for a visit last month. At first the response was "Oh no, not another motorcycle movie." When it started, everyone was rivited to the movie. Now I will say "Not another motorcycle movie", but in a different way. It was a fantastic movie about a great man who just wanted to do something because he believed he could. A VERY powerful movie that everyone should see. You will find yourself cheering him on out loud during the movie. I know I did.

Former Auckland boy here - just curious, did you ever get out to (or compete in) those crazy beach races they use to have on the black sands of Kariotahi Beach?

Yeah, I'm in Auckland myself these days, as you must have noticed.

Coincidentally, I rode my VTR to Kariotahi on Sunday. They still run beach races there, though I have not competed.

Oreti and Gisborne were my beach racing venues; the riding was heaps of fun, but cleaning the salt and beach sand out was not.

I saw the movie and like most that hae seen it, I really enjoyed myself. If ever there was a truely inspirational character and one worthy of the admiration of those who have even a clue of the challenges he both faced and overcame with next to no resources, Bert would be the guy. I completely agree! It is a wonderful movie about an extraordinary man. One of the things that really struck me was how he was at peace with himself and mankind too. A rare thing.

Anthony Hopkins (acting as Burt Munro) has a line in that movie that does well to express my desire to ride. It is the scene in his shop, when the young neighbor boy asks him,

MNBob - I saw it a week later in the Edina Theater also. I was the only one that laughed when he slid sideways down the slat flats. It could have been WAY worse. What a ride.

Oh Lordy... WHAT a GREAT movie. My NEW all time favorite movie. The Best movie many have never heard of Id wager.

Burt Munro is my hero!!Id have loved to just hang out at his shop for a week or...forever.

That scene where he "mows" his lawn BWAA HAAAA!! My wife said "Now..thats somehting you'd do!"

My Dad had a few Indians (Scout and Chief) back in the 50's and I couldnt wait to take the DVD over to hin to watch. He LOVED it!!

Got my DVD for like $9.99 at Wallyworld. Best value i ever got there.

I have seen the movie at least 6 times (twice in theater) I bought two dvds one to loan and watch and one in case the first one gets lost or wears out. Yes you might say I "Loved" the movie.

To all who have not seen it, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BURNT OIL!!! reat movie. Do yourself a favor and join netflix. Then order up the movie. Bet we (this forum) can put a good squeeze on them.

I said this earlier,but here again.

Get the DVD version. It has the documentary of the "real" Burt Munro. Many of the shots,like the garage internal or making pistons is exactly the same and you can see the way Hopkins captured the real guy.

The earth quake in Haiti was big news and stayed in the news.

It was an absolute poor treament to the people of New Zealand from what I saw.

Did the USA and other countries send help,especially to help rescue efforts?

I know a couple of fire rescue teams went over from So. Cal.
I do wish I had a few grand to drop on that.
It would make a great paperweight.
I also loved the movie.
A friend and I are looking at going to the salt and or the
dry lake beds!
