Dont ride any new bikes!! dont!!

I Gotta stay off the new stuff methinks!!!

Just came in from a nice run on the kids new 2006 gsxr ..... woweeee! Corners!!! speeeed!! stability..and that howl that comes from under there somewhere!! hmmmmmmmm.. I could get used to that.. Smile

I honestly felt the wheels were commin off the old f when i got back on it..hmmm 25 yrs maybe does make a difference??

...First I rode 3 hrs into Vancouver to test run a new sprint st last wed and wowwweee again!! Tried out a fj1300 and have ridden the vfr.. Then I took the wifey for 3 days and 1800km on the 05 Camel ..and realized it worked great also.. So after these new bikes i climb back on the old 900 and its scary...kinda like riding 2 wheeels connected with noodles and a engine Smile

.hahaa I think I best either stay off the new toys! I am still doing a trip this summer on my nice black 900 as my friend might go with me for a week on his 1100..should be good!! But the rest of the time..I dunnooo

..I am now officially in love with that 3 banger after riding it!!

Was in Nelson BC on weekend and what do you know..the day after i fall in love with the sprint I hit a Triumph rally!! cool bikes...got some soul to em like the old f..specially the speed triple..closed my eyes and sat on em and felt identical to my f!!! thats a good thing..only new bike I found so far that has the same feel..plus new!....!! hmmmm..get me outa there!!

So I want to get a newer sport touring type bike, and im down to the new sprint, (actually in love), or a nice 98 zzr1100 I found..Just need somethin to cross that godforsaken prairie a bit faster y'know!!

But I havnt given up..will be on the old 900 for a trip up to Sun Peaks tommorow, lotsa curves.. Smile

so expect by the time I get back I will have forgotten the new ones and back used to the noodle!! And I have been using it well as another set of tires are screwed and there is no tread untouched any more Smile

Ya newer bikes are insane.... when I took out my buddies 599, even that 599 was just amazing. No prob would it smoke my 1100F. I mean it didnt have an torque but imagine the ZX14????? Jeeezus.... cant even imagine

I did have funwith that zx1100.(zzr in the usa).It was the king till the Hyabusa crept by it...Man it was fun too..just kept going and going and then i had to quit!! So its on my list also......hmmmm

Yeah. And for the same reason a new WRX might burn the crap out of an old Mopar like the Hemi 'Cuda.
But I would rather have a Hemi 'Cuda. Twisted Evil

I ahve said before that our bikes are like muscle cars. Not the cutting edge, but they have a different appeal.

And yes. I will own a new bike.

Maybe a GSXR, but more likely a CBR1100XX.

Ive been mulling over a theory, with the advancement in bike tecnology i wonder if they arent easier for an average rider to crash.
I mean the suspension balance and weight plus braking doesnt allow the rider the know when he has pushed the bike to the limit untill the tires break loose. I kinda like a bike that gets hard to ride when your pushing it
Its a warning that if you keep pushing it the tires ar going to break loose.
I know it sounds the opposite of what a rider should want.

Yeah my neighbour just got the latest jigsaw (GSX-R) 600. That'll be down the road before Christmas. The way he rides it, just gonna be trouble. Like what I did when I was 20... Very Happy

I rode a few new bikes and even now own an FJR-1300. It does everything better than my 1123F BUT it is not an F. I like the personality of my F a bit more. Like Ratfink said, it is like comparing an old muscle car to a modern Porsche. The Porsche out handles and is faster but it just does not have the emotional link that the muscle car has. That is why I have both. Cool

A friend of mine just traded his ST1100 in on a new Hyabusa. I was following him up an on ramp. Keep in mind that he is still breaking it in and has his wife on the back. He was gone instantly! Later on he told me that he gently rolled on the throttle in third and before he knew it he was doing a buck 30. Rolled on the throttle in second and the front wheel was off the ground. That scared both him and his wife and he shut the throttle fast and nailed his nuts on the tank.

I'm half afraid to ride it. Part of me is afraid of the power while another part of me is afraid I might like it Evil or Very Mad

I agree with Ratfink. I would take an older mechanical machine that I can work on myself over a new computer controlled car that I can't touch without a computer diagnostics class.

When I ride most of the people I know drive pretty recent bikes, hyabusas bmw's, boulevards, harley's etc...

All kidding aside, when we stop as as a group the bike with the most droul factor Shocked

i have to agree about the triumphs. there is something soulful about the sound of a triple. its no twin, but its not quite a four either. what sweet music. its on my short list of must haves. i'll have to see if i can bend myself onto a 955. Confused

I tried a lot of the new nakeds and supersports but I didn't really like many of them, except for the cb1300 (non faired) and the gsx1400.

All full fairing supersports are just too fast for me (cbr-rr, zx10r and gsx-r series), it's too easy to go way too fast and over here that means it'll cost you way too much money on tickets. I like how I have to work to get my CB-F to go fast and it just provides me with more of a kick, surely it's not as easy as a modern bike but that's the beauty of it.

Don't get me wrong, for a daily driver I'de get something that's way younger but I'm only driving for recreational reasons, every now and then in the weekends and that's where my CB-F shines, even compared to guys with much newer and definetly much more expensive bikes.

Yes, Ratfink has hit the nail on the head with the muscle car analogy. I like it. That is exactly why I love my F. But the 10 min warm up times sure can be a bummer when my neighbor rolls his brand new bike out cold, fires it up, and is riding within 15 seconds. Viva La Fuel Injectiones!! Twisted Evil

I will always keep and ride, and I do mean ride , my f's..probly as far as anyone does..

.but I also want to really pile on the miles now and new is definately nice! I dont want to work on my new ones, I do just want to hit the button and put on a pile miles a day some days.. Smile

I do like to fiddle and I like to fiddle with my f's!

My clunker f has 5000 km on it so far this summer, my new Camel has 8000km..and I havnt gone on any of my planned trips yet...sooon tho. Smile

And as much as i love my old f.....hahaaa. no I wouldnt trade it for that new sprint hahaaa..ya right!!!

But I have been lucky enough to always have a newer bike in the shed to compare the old f to and after my last few rides on the new stuff it was a lot tougher than i thought getting back on the f..really shows its age then..BUT im climbing on her for a 3 hr ride right now and 10 minutes from now I will be used to it again and happy!!! Always works that way!! Smile

Take care of the old girls, but dont pass up a chance to play with the new ones!!

I don't think so. At least for the "reasonable" bikes I've had (Duc 748, BMW R1100S, GSXR600) the limits are very, very far, and they are designed for average riders, so they provide plenty of warning when approaching those limits.

The F provides a different kind of experince, but I don't feel as safe either within or close to (my) limits. She warns you in a more tangible way.

I agree. I do not think they are any easier to crash on the false sense of security issue. It is all rider based. And the same squid that goes out and buys a ZX14R and wrecks it could have done the same on one of our F's. But even faster I think.
Because these bikes are WAY WAY WAY more than any sensable person could use on the street, there should be no occaision that it would be the bikes fault if the rider overstepped the boundries.
However the sheer power of one of these machines is more than 99% of people could handle balls to the wall. Shocked

True, it's a real challenge to go *seriously* fast on an F and ride clean lines.

When I was down at my local Honda shop getting some parts one day, I asked the parts manager why he was running around? He said he had five crashed Fireblades to order parts for. Well this struck me as strange, five bikes you know? So I asked him was there a truck accident, thinking that his delivery of bikes was damaged? This was about Christmas time two years ago. So the new models were out. No he said, they come from the factory with 155Hp and these guys think they're Wayne Gardner! Oops Embarassed

What was the line out of that movie? "Your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash!"

Well I feel more confident since the wheel/brake conversion, it takes ten years off the bike. Before that I was pretty cautious in the corners. But I would like to have something truely "flickable" in the stable as well.

I'm not really into the busa, they are awesome and can be had at very reasonable prices used, but as Midnight said earlier the tickets (and here in Edmonton, the photo-radar paracite bastards) will eat you alive. The cops can pull your license on the spot if they get you doing 200kph and with a busa, that's just a nice touring pace Laughing

When they do get you, and they will, you lose your class 5 (car) license as well. Then the 40 year old biker dude is screwed, his wife glares, and he dumps the bike back at the dealers....which is why you get such good used deals!

At least on the F there is a little drama; 200kph is something that you have to think about a little to make happen. I already ride my F far too hard, so maybe a smaller lighter bike is a smarter choice for me. I kinda like the Suzuki SV650 Wink

Hey Chris...my son (who owns a mint 750f) had a sv this year and i di drive it a fair bit...its quite a fun bike..basically a underpowered supersport 600, but still faster by a fair bit than the 900 and a ball to go around corners on! I like it!!

This is a place to enjoy reading and learning about our beloved CBF motorcycles.
Yes, there are Ferraris in the automobile world, there are War planes in the aviation industry, there are Submarines in the marine vessel technology.....that does not mean there are no people that fancy Volkswagen Bugs , UltraLight airplanes, Kayaks .... to talk about a Ferrari to a person that enjoys simple and meaningfull things like enjoying a VW Bug is being narrowminded and not able to understand that life is about many things, like having fun at just listening birds singing, at watching a sunset, going fishing with your son......

I do not remember having gone to a Piaggio moped site, to talk about my CB750F with clip ons and 4 cylinders of power. I do not know what I would accomplish with that action

There are places in the net that cater to those motorcycles you seem to enjoy, let me have fun looking at the sunset, I do not need nor want to hear that other people's idea of fun would consider me a nerd for enjoying sunsets so much.

I have been looking at bieks to add to my collection. i want somethign with FI that i can ride liek i stole it. But you knwo what new bikes are so damn expensive. I looked at the new VFR, 919, F4I, 600RR, all of which are over $10,000 otd. Holy shit. i would like to have a bike liek the F4I. Its comfy and sporty. i looked at an FE and fell in love with the ergonomics. I wish i could take it out for a drive..... Its either that or i save up for a XX

no no no. My girlfriend is claiming bankruptcy. there is a difference. But if she is still thinkign about it. They are suppose to take her car away soon. Thus she needs to drive my truck.... she said that since she is driving the truck i can get another bike. We share income mostly but her bills are with her ex husband and i am not paying for that shit
