Damm, bad news,
I was going to ask him about the shocks and springs he mentioned on a prior post about making the Fs "smoothe" like the new CBR types.
http://cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=24718
I've got a gestating 750F project... so hoping to get some advice from him...
Well; we will have to move on, and draw from the pool that he, and the other great people on this site have contributed to.
RIP Matt |

This weekend was full of death for me with Matt and my old roommate and close friend Pete Anske died Sunday night. They think he had a stroke.
Pete had a really clean 1980 CB750F that I was the caretaker of. Shit, men, I just fixed the charging system in his bike last week.
Take care guys, you will both be missed. |

I just got off the phone with Matt's friend and former boss Steve from the late great Reno BMW where Matt used to be a mechanic some 20 some years ago. This was not a call I really wanted to make. Steve did mention that Matt was a cancer survivor. Seems he went through chemo about ten years ago. This was news to me as I had never heard him mention it before. That little bit of information speaks volumes to me about the mans character. He really did seem to live for the day and not go through life feeling sorry for himself or want any pity from others. A good life lesson I will personally try to follow.
I will see Steve this evening and if he can give me any contact information as far as maybe sending flowers to his girlfriend or what not, I will pass the information on to the rest of you.
Again, God Speed Matt

There is nothing I can say that hasn't. I'm very sorry to read about this. I hope we are all a little more careful. I sorry to all of you that got to know him and of coarse his family. RIP Matt |

I spoke to Matt's brother a short while ago, and forwarded the information to Rob (rtabish) since he started this thread and is local.
There will likely be no service, but possibly a memorial in the fall, he wasn't sure just yet. He asked if I'd let you all know this.
I explained that many members here were concerned about Matt's passing and would like to send flowers or contribute to a fund. He asked for the forum address, so we may be hearing from him.
He did say that Matt's lady was in major distress, so I didn't push for a phone number, but left mine for her to call. Maybe Rob can hook up with her and get more info for us.
That's all I have for now.

Still shaking my head after reading all this, as someone else said I was waiting for this to be a prank. I wish it was, Matt should be giving us all a lecture on skills instead of this. I will miss his pugnatious prose, his rants are by far some of the most entertaining material on the site.
I keep thinking about that long post of the trip to Mexico in the spring, the epic ride and those few perfect days eating seafood and drinking cold beer by the ocean. When I say rest in peace, I hope peace is something like that. So long Matt. |

thanks Gene. i'll keep an eye out for it. flowers are nice, but dollars sometimes help a lot more. it wont bring Matt back, but from the way he's spoken of the little woman, he wouldnt want her to go cold this winter. in his memory, i'd love to help. |

Holy fucking shit. Wow man i dunno what to say. He was a good man and had a hand in most of our bikes. I hope the lord gave him an "unearthly" 1100F to cruise around in heaven. I just can't believe it man.
I read up until page 5 where it was confirmed, so I don't know what anyone hads planned to do. Personba;;y i would like to have a memorial ride for him. He died what he loved doing so we should honor him by doing what he loved doing....Riding. Its just a though and would take some serious effort but it should be done...
Rest In peace brother.... |

I spoke with Matt's old roommate from Reno (another Matt) this evening. He said that he had talked to Matt's girlfriend for about an hour. He didn't have an address for her when I saw him but said he would get me one as soon as possible. He also said that the local paper really exagerated the speed of the accident and that the other rider never left the seen of the accident.
Not sure if any of this helps. I will let everyone know when I get an address for Matt's girlfriend.

The way I reckon it, she could use our help, and she lived with Matt on a day to day basis. If somebody get's hold of her, let us all know eh?
I don't want to barrage her with email or phone calls or anything. Maybe somebody local can set up a fund or something, I'm in. Matt's brother made it sound like it could be a while before much gets done to sort things out being so far away... |

I am just stunned. My first visit here for months and months (creating 2 new businesses, racing, stuff) and the first thing I see is the loss of the highly knowledgeable and informative Matt.
I add my condolences and best wishes to everyone else's. |

I have read that thread a few times since it started - it has a 'prophecy' in a few places doesn't it?
Its a strange thing sitting here in the UK, reading about an American I never met, but certainly knew - if you follow my drift - and feeling horribly sad about it all.

Like many you, Matt has personally contributed in making my bike a better and safer ride. I will be reminded of him everytime I ride it.
Matt you may be gone but not forgotten.

I sent Matt's trip to Mexico story to a ham radio friend of mine - who also loves tripping on bikes (he has a BMW). He will be hurt too; when he hears. I will probably tell him tomoroww morning on a ham radio net we do 8:30 am eastern. How about that, Matt even transends motorcycles! |

I cant beleave Matt is gone. I never talked to him. just a few e-mails. I was shocked to read the news article. If the article was correct? What was he thiking?? I thought Matt was a good guy and friend to all us Fer's, but I always hated riders that raced on the street..
RIP Matt!! |

That man pm'ed 4 times with big detailed answers on some of the problems I was having. I remember saying to myself " Shit this guy does not even know me and gave me his time with long paragraphs with answers to my questions. This site will never be the same. You never know whats next for us in life but I will say this " I will never stop riding my CB and I think Matt would be glad and laugh". Damm I love riding and its makes me sick in my gut to hear this news. The man was loved by many. He will be in my prayers |

I also feel sick in the guts after reading about this. I feel like I have lost a riding buddy and that hits close to home. A sad day for the CB forum and a great loss. |

I've been away from the forum for a while and imagine my shock when I saw the opening page. I never had any contact with Matt but have read what everyone has written here. It's obvious he will be missed by freinds and family. My condolences to all whose life he touched. |

Just logged on for the first time in while to see this shocker.
Matt was the only member of the site I actual had phone conversations with doing business. He was quite a guy and ethical as they come, one of the most impressive men I have the pleasure of dealing with. I believe Matt's spirit is entwined in many of our bikes. Many parts of my bike were bought from Matt with confidence in his guidance & honesty, I am deeply saddened will miss him and will have a good thought for his family |

I'm sorry to hear about what happened. My thoughts go out to the family and friends. He sure knew his stuff.
You guys helped me with my bike and I do appreciate it. I know many of you probably do alot of riding and go fast alot. Try to be safer now as you can see what happens. Learn from the tragedy. |
