Hondaline Sport Fairing vs. 1100F

Will the Hondaline sport fairing fit the American 1100F? I'd expect to have to remove the bikini fairing and headlight, but does the bike's gauge cluster clear? Is there any problem with moisture entering the gauges when the stock fairing/headlight is removed?

Do the electrical connectors on the sport fairing assembly match the 1100F harness?

Has anyone done this? Tips 'n' pointers appreciated!!!

I'm sorry I cant help you out with your questions, but if you do go ahead with your conversion I would be interested in purchasing your 1100F fairing off you if you intend to sell it. Wink

The take-off bits won't be for sale, I may want to convert back some day.

At this point, it's looking doubtful that the Hondaline fairing will fit. Bummer.

Yes, I got a very nice chunk of change for my blue baby. It is on it's way to Houston.

Russ, the bike looks great! Where is the new seat and did you get the valves adusted? It will be a tender moment when the CRs show up. I'm sure Matt would want you to enjoy them...

Valve adjust and new seat today. When the CR's show up will be anyones guess. Matt was going to try to ship them to me on Friday or Saturday, don't know if he did or not.

Yep, it'll fit. Did it to the GrapeApe when I had it in California mid-90's.
Required some wiring work...different connectors between the CB900F and the CB1100F if I remember right. I did the wire change in the fairing so I could flip-flop between full and bikini.
Also the gauge panel had to be moved towards me...small plate between the gauges and the top tree took care of that-keeps the gauges out of the dash panel of the fairing. I had to weld extensions on the Hondaline "wiring-box" rack to fit the triple tree on the CB1100F...aparrently the 1100 trees are further apart than the 900 trees. Also, the 1100 turnsignals won't mount to the turnsignal mounts on the fairing...get the 900 turn signals OR I chearted and brazed sheet steel onto the mounts and redrilled them to take the 1100 turnsignal lights. Lastly, since the 1100 clutch cover is at the front of the basket, it interferes a bit with the right-side lower. I notched the lower a bit to fit around the clutch bellcrank lever.
I enjoyed the ride with the full fairing, but since I rebuilt the Grape Ape back in the early 90's the fairing is still sitting around doing nothing. Still have the adapted pieces too! MAy be time to get rid of it...last time I entertained this thought I was rewarded with a Government Sponsered Trip Abroad that kept me from concluding the deal. I wish I could remember who it was that offered to by it back in the late summer 2003??

I did not have the problems Grape had. All the wiring spliced in just like the 900, and 1100 fork centers are the same as 900. No guage clearance problems if fairing is adjusted right. I used zip ties to hold the wire box rather than weld.

Thanks, all, for the responses. I'd like to get a bigger fairing for my 1100F, it's nice to know the Hondaline one will work.

I'm too old and getting too large to hide behind the bikini like when I was 23.

Still happy to hear of other's experiences with the Hondaline fairing, too...

You might want to plop yourself down on an 81 or 82 CBX. It has exactly what you want.

I highly highly HIGHLY reccomend against a Hondaline if you are over 6' tall!!

1) They are ugly as sin
2) They make your helmet dance around as if you were in a water ballet.

My dad has one on his CBX and after 30 mins on the freeway both me and my woman were furious.... its incredibly irritating. Crying or Very sad

That looks really nice, and im sure the wind protection is better also. I may be looking into this conversion..

Wow, I didn't realize the potential Gold Mine I have. Before we get into just what this thing is worth in 2006 $$, please let me get it out-clean it up-inventory against the OEM install instructions-and snap some pics and post 'em. I suspect many will look, some will look twice, all will think it's not perfect, somebody will want it, and I'll sell it here before I eBay it.

I think I need some Keihin CR's. Yep, horsetrading is acceptable!

Keep watching here. I expect to have some more info/pics by the end of the month (yeah, I know-long way off-but family/babies come before the bike).

Thanks 'F'er for the casual hint. To all on this board...Please excuse my lack of etiquette. This board went up after another board (CB900F's old board??) went down; I was one of the earlier guys who was carried over from the other one....look at owners pics!

Unfortunately, before location etiquette was formally worked out, this Great Country of ours decided that I was needed (for no small period of time since I'm Army guard, and not Air Guard or Marines) in a place far more desolate than the Mojave Desert by Barstow, CA.

So, yes, I've been around for three years...but distant for most of it.

However, not one to let a resource go unused, I have posted several replies to others. Some before this change in etiquette, some after. Etiquette didn't seem to be an issue while I was replying to others concerns. I hope y'all will forgive my lack of etiquette.

Please observe that it takes a while for a veteran to become reaquainted with the way things are after having been gone for some time-especially if things have changed in his absence. Additionally, note that a 15 month absence from home (and hobbies) requires doubling up on all that one does for at least another 15 months, and there is only the same 24 hours per day before the absence.

So, babies and wife first...work second...bike (and related) last.

But I digress...

To the owner of this slice of cyberspace...Thanks for a valuable resource!

Sorry but for someone who is over 6' and who just put on 1030 miles with a 900 and Hondaline fairing I have to say BULLSHIT to this!!!!

That may be true on a CBX however (I've never riden one) but on a F bike they are the cats meow... How can you compair the two untill you've ridden both anyway?

and as far as the ugly comment goes STFU!!!! no f'n way are F'n blind AJ?

These are beautifull machines with Hondaline fairings (IMHO of course)
These 3 all have different wind screens, the clear one is an aftermarket screen and is as high as stock without the "lip" the one beside it is the stock with the "lip" and the one in the far back is the stock one with the "lip" removed.
