Any chance this might turn out to be a "Honda" motorcycle?

Acknowledging that this is an "off topic" bike....
I remember one of the bike magazines way back when (79~80) said the Honda Hawk had enough power and handling to out run the current Yamaha RD400. I considered this heresy at the time since I got my street bike start on a 73 RD350.

A friend of mine had a Honda Hawk when we were teenagers, I think it was a "79", and yes, it was fast for being a 400cc bike.

I have a '78 CB400TII Hawk...hauls my 224# butt around quite nicely. Pretty quick bike. I'm doing the easy transformation into a cafe racer with mine.

Here's a pic the day I bought it (for $450).

EDIT: Mine is NOT the Hondamatic, it has a replacement side cover from a Hondamatic bike.

What your looking at is a CB 400T which was made in 1978-1979 in a T1 spoke wheels a T2 which was comstar wheels an A which was a Hondamatic with comstar wheels. What your really after is a 1980-1981 CB400T Hawk which was a miniture "F" which was the one that gave the RD a run for its money.

Pick it up and ride it! I think it is the same motor as the CM400T but just sportier looking. My '80 CM400t can't accelerate, cant brake and cant handle to save it's life (or mine) but thats only compared to my 900F and VFR800. My dad rides the 400 now and loves it cuz it is just a fun bike to scoot around on!

My only word of caution is be prepared to downshift all the time!

Mine was an '82 CB450T Hawk.
It would give an RZ350 a run for it's money.
Especially since I weighed 150 lbs at the time.

I don't know what you guys are smoking but those cb400TI hawks are probably the slowest bike there is (not the baby F but that orange and black TI). Beat an RD? must be dreaming. My friends and I owned tons of those bikes and we were all glad to get rid of them. Here on LI you can't seem to give them away. One thing I will say is that they are super dependable. I don't think I ever had a breakdown with any hawk and I don't think my friends did either.

now the hawk GT from the late 80's early 90's, that is a bike. That single sided swingarm alone is just neat on a 650cc bike.
