Am i getting screwed?

I called honda to get the prices ont he parts i need to have the bike back to normal.

2 Dust covers for swingarm~ $13.99/ea
8 studs for the exhasut~ $5.69/each
4 exhasut gaskets~ $6.56/each
2 14mm washers for swingarm~ i gotta find my own damn self

Thus the total comes to $99.74 + tax. Now i know i don't have much of a choice in this matter. No one local sells studs the right size. The dust covers are obviously model specific (BTW will any year 750F dust covers work?) I just thinkt his a really expensive for such small parts. But i am pretty much SOL huh? i gotta spend $100 soem odd dollars are parts and even more on a helmet.... Mad

No worries man. We all want it here and now. But the bike will be there for a while longer. It has already been there for 27 years. Wink

Just do what you can when you can. I have been doing that all along. But don't do like I did and rely on the bike and then tear part of it down if it was working enough to ride in the first place. Embarassed

Our local dealer marks up parts anywhere from 25 to 100 percent over regular suggested list. part of the rationalization is, that on a special order bolt or o-ring, you have to pay a guy to place the order, receive the order on the computor and receive it thru the back door, put it away, call you when its there, etc.
BUT with internet competition, its a decision the dealer has to make.
If you look at your next special order honda part, there may be a paper tag on it the size of a dollar bill. on this tag, is the routing number, the bin number, the bar code, etc. On that tag, IF the dealer leaves it on the part, is the actual suggested list price. (some remove the tag) its on there with no decimal points and its pretty easy to figure out what series of numbers it is. if actual suggested is 18.49 youll see it listed under some column and shown as 1849 Compare it to the cash register receipt to see what you paid for it.
Its pretty easy to figure out. once you determine which box the numbers are in, you can check all your parts to see what markup they are adding. some just do regular suggested, some round to the nearest .25 some to the nearest dollar, some by additional percentage. yes, dealers have to stay in business, and to provide good service, they have to balance overhead costs. I manage a BMW motorcycle dealership and we have always sold parts at suggested. some other BMW dealers choose to mark up over that. its a tough balance.
My local Honda dealer provides just terrible service and still bumps the price up a huge percentage. If a local guy gives great service, is helpful, and is there for you with advice, by all means support him and let him make a living. In the long run, it pays off.
Anyway, for honda parts, call or e-mail Western Honda in Arizona. They sell at 15 to 20 percent UNDER suggested. best to call with your own part numbers if possible to, 480.994.8400 or e-mail info@westernhonda.com

The only thing you HAVE to get from the dealer are the dust covers.
The Exhaust gaskets, I paid $10.00 retail for. Available aftermarket.
Studs, get measurements and go to an auto parts store.
14mm washers, the same.

Well the gaskets are 6 bucks each. The studs i have looked at a binch of different stores. Advanced, napa, lowes, ace, home depot, etc. None of them have the studs. The washers are also a lttle hard to find cause of the size. Speaking of which does anyone knoe the exact measurment for those washers? Inner diameter is obviously 14mm but what about outside diameter and the thickness? I will look online and give arizona a call. The only thing there is i have to have it shipped.

It sucks you need the small studs... the 8mm studs are $1.55 each. You can get a set of 4 exhaust gaskets at partsnmore.com for $7

well the studs are 8mm at one side and like 6 or something on the outer. i bought 8mm studs the whole length but they didn't work. I drille dthe collars twice and i still can't get them to fit. So i am just going to suck ti up. I should done this to begin with so i coulda saved money..... Embarassed

your spinning your wheels having to buy stuff twice. Western honda pays shipping I think and its pretty quick.
If you wated time and money buying the wrong parts twice, it would have been quicker to buy from them and do it once. Just call and do price comparisons from your local guy.

YES, you are getting screwed.. during wich time you will win and lose and sometimes you will feel good because your getting a deal!, but inevitebly you are screwed.

At the end of the day i was screwed becasue i bougth parts trying to make other things work... lesson learned
