2005 - 2006 Projects Thread - Postem Here

Squatch71's Post got me to thinking.... no, I didn't hurt myself Razz

How about starting a thread about our winter projects??? Of course there will have to be pictures and in addition the cool mods and other mecahnical maintenance lists would be velllllly interesting.

Maybe even some kind of contests:

1> Who has done the most with the least $$$ (that wouldn't be me)
2> Who has made the most dramatic change
3> Most innovative mods

If you F'ers out there would like, we can make some polls to decide. At this time I don't mind some feedabck on how you would like to structure the entries on this thread and what type of contest would be fun to include.

I am by no means ready to post my project as I won't be done until 1st week in May but just for you to get an idea these are the things I was/am doing:

Cool idea, I love your black/red bodywork by the way!

Here's the latest pics of my 'winter-project'!

Still a lot of work to be done but the pics give you an idea how it will turn out Smile

List of mods so far;

front;
-CBR600f2 front wheel, disks, speedo drive
-VF1000F front fender
-Progressive springs
-Fork brace
-Rebuild complete front end, painted everything
rear;
-CBR900RR swingarm, incl brake system
-Showa fully adjustable monoshock
-Raask rearsets, modded to fit with the swingarm
-modded rear light, plate holder
engine;
-offset sprocket
-mikuni flatslide carbs with K&N's (not mounted yet!)
-1100r cooler (not mounted yet!!)
-dyna 2000 ignition/coils
-supertrapp 4-in-1
-dohc cover

there's probably a lot of stuff that I've forgotten about, basically the only things left from the bike I bought last year are the frame, front end and the engine. The rest is all bought from all over the world, bodywork, rearsets, cooler, carbs, fender are from Germany. Supertrapp and Dyna are from the USA, swingarm and discs from Austria and the bike itself from Italy Razz

I spend less than 1000 bucks on all parts noted, I got some very good deals thanks to sonicrete Wink

I got the bike itself for 500 usd but it was not in very good shape when I bought it. I sold most of the parts that I changed so I easily made up for those 500 dollars!

150 mph white numbers speedo and 11k tach
Corbin gunfighter w/ lady
GIVI rack and trunk (big enough for a case of Corona, as legend has it)
LED cluster light replacements

Soon to be's include:
F2/F3 wheels w/ Michelin Pilot Sport tires
F3 swingarm, braced, with twin shock setup
SuperTrapp 4-1
Tomaselli clip-ons
Rear LED mini signal stalks
Front LED flush mount marker lights
Lockhart Phillips fairing mirrors with marker lights
Euro controls
Custom upswept tail with LED brake/tail light

Everything that is 'soon to be' either needs spacers, minor welding (ha!), or to simply arrive in the mail.

The project for next year/winter is already sitting on the basement floor. I have a 'condition unknown' 1100 motor with the cases stripped down of any electricals. Getting this up and running will take more $$ than I am willing to spend at this time, simply because no self respecting F'er would put junk carbs on a motor like that!

My 750
Done last year:
F2 wheels
F3 swingarm w/ mono shock conversion
R1 rearsets
Small markers

This year:
A true solo seat that still uses the original tail section. My butt will be 4" from the taillight
Moving the liscnese plate to the swingarm
Shifter mod
Switching the shifter housing to show the front sprocket and chain.

I lost my camera when we move, so until I find the right box.....

Man that is one mean machine. I just trying to get the basics right now but you are really gonna be a proud papa. Cool

oooops........ The Red/Black bodywork is history as my best bodywork is in the painters hands now. It's going to be All Black with Gold strips and Gold Honda Wings on the tank. My pictures look like crap because the mock-up bodywork has a poor finish and just rattle canned all black so I can get a feel for how it looks.

Good Idea Griz. Well we can start over.
when I got her..

900F light to 1100F light and 1/4 fairing, Includes modifing bracket to fit (remember that!!!)

Brake light' Licence plate mod

sanded her.

primed, rear sets, rack and backrest and new lock for tank, ignition and helmet lock---wife is going to be pissed.

still have to...

Finish painting
install new oil lines--soon as they show up
adjust valves and such
ceramic coat pipes--if money allows if not...paint it black
seat recovered

and go ride for the summer....

This thread is already compiling a list of what mods can be done in one place.

When someone asks that question again (What Mods??) this could be a one-stop-shop.... Cool

Keep em coming. Any and all work is welcome and just getting the bike going again can be a project in itself.

Thanks for posting over here too. Your project has been an inspiration to me that's for sure. It's neat how we have similar F'n tastes. I like to see the projects in progress but mine is just ugly at the moment. Maybe when I get the Black fairing I'll try another picture.

ok, this should take up some space on the net.
first, lets start with a basket case 81 900F that had been setting for a good 10 years, and before that it hadnt been taken care of very well. dude who dug it up took it to matt at PSB here in town last year to get it running enough for resale. this is where i come in. i had been playing around with my 900 custom trying to get it to be a faux F. had been looking for the real deal, but i missed the only 2 i found in this area due to lack of funds. so good guy matt thinks of ol' robbie when it comes time to get the bike out of the shop. the guy with the bike even makes me a deal on payments just so i could be blessed.

broken lights, rusty chain, trashed seat, dented tank, missing side covers, dented exhaust, you name it and it was having a problem with it. many hours on ebay, local parts guys, and a couple trips to matts shop to replace stator, rectifier and redo the valves and carbs. i won a couple sets of body work off of ebay, a couple sets of forks, wheels and tires, and lets not forget the people here who i have found parts from.

i also had a bunch of gear laying around that i had for my 900 custom. nice that a lot of stuff is interchangeable.

so from a dead bike to where it is today.....

and even that is now changed as i have taken off the fairing and added bar end mirrors this afternoon. i am changeing out the stock swing arm for an 1100F unit to go with the 1100 wheels i added last week. and i have a few other suprises coming up in the next few weeks. so this is definitely a work in progress. but change is good, right?

This is my first bike, purchased 4 years ago, and this is the first time I have done any work on it on my own. Having a blast. Hopefully I won't end up with extra parts when I put it back together.

Its funny Papaluker took some pictures of those brackets for me and I made a set up exactly like that. But its nice to see that thread to know I did everything right. I will take pictures later this week... maybe I will have my headlight bucket in and my raasks on by then.

I'm "Euro" ing my 900.
Continental ket rearsets are now on,
L+R "euro" controls are on too.
Polished covers all around (still working on the $5 clutch cover I got of e-bay, so that one will have to wait till next year)
Check the valve clearances and adjust the cam chains while the vavle cover is off.
Replace the torn seat with a Guliari.
Pull the pipes and carbs (and everything else) to paint the cyliders.
Straiten my fairing mounts, replaced moded lower brackets for a NOS set. (thanks Andy)
Install a 155MPH tach/speedo to replace the 80Mph one.
I just picked up 4 new exaust gaskets so I can put the pipes back on tonight.
Cleaned up the pipes while they were off.
Once the pipes are back on I can then put the fairing on, then the tank

All I am waiting for now is a stator cover gasket and I'll be n the road again, hopefully by this weekend.

1100F Rearsets.
Euro 750F bodywork (waiting on rear cowl, front fender will be black).

Mechanically she's done - suspension changes still to happen;

VF1000F wheels.
Goldwing forks.
Braided lines and front caliper rebuilds.
I need to buy tires Rolling Eyes

Just a heads up, re: "there weren't any exhaust gaskets"... . I've found in the past that it sometimes looks like there are no gaskets when the pipes are dropped. They do get really flattened out some times. Just be sure that it is truely the case so you don't trash your new set of exhaust gaskets after you suddenly find the flanges don't fit far enough down over the exhaust manifold studs due to the double thickness of two gaskets. On my Genesis project motor I had at first thought th exhaust ports had all been beat up buy a loose fitting pipe,..but turned out the rough port faces were really thin old exhaust gaskets. In some cases (most) the gaskets will not fall of the motor. I use a dental pick to snag an inside edge and lift them off. FWIW

I have posted way too much on my Super F's and nothing on my K-Model's winter progress which is getting new wheels, forks, brakes and maybe even a swing arm.
Today I put a CB750SC Nighthawk forks & triple on the bike and only need some headleght ears and an 18" dual disc front wheel.

She also got the Euro switches I bought from pontiactogo.
So now she has dual piston dual disc brake in the front and I need to figure out how I am going to put a disc brake on the back.

I'll get around to throwing my free 5000 mile 750 motor (courtesy speednugget) in someday to replace the junker I used to replace the one which blew up last summer when the CCT broke. I might even wash it. I better fix it soon, otherwise Gord and I won't be able to beerchug

I have some small projects I am working on. Carb tunning, valve adjustment, clutch, and some little painting. I am pretty happy with my 900.

I just picked up those two other project 750s. I have a special project in the works that will occupy my time. Smile

it has been fun, now time to run her!!
i WILL get my hands on another one to restart all over again in the 2006-2007.
oh, must mention, this bike here was purchased for $250 , and totally redone!! yep, $250!!

Hey, cool projects going on all around!! I know there are more out there, keep em coming.........

Oh yeah, my bike was FREE till I got going full steam, now I don't even want to think about it. Ordered my new Bridgestone BT-45(s) today.....YES Very Happy

I am in the middle of rebuilding my "working" carbs and cleaning up the corrosion. Boy, I hope they still work when I'm done (rebuild kits and new air cut-off diaphrams). Rolling Eyes

I've never done this before but just finished up #2 tonight. Thanks to Spideray for the tip on not pulling the carbs apart to put in the new air cut-off valves.. Very Happy

but it was a PITA just the same.

No pictures yet but will take a few after the carbs are pretty again.
