Its an excellent film. Recently I watched a documentary which showed a lot of original footage of Burt Munro, and it was nice to see that there were many many very direct parallels between the character that A.Hopkins portrayed and the real man. Sometimes reality can get a little lost, but this one was actually pretty good.

The original documentary and the movie were both made by the same man. The documentary will be on the DVD release.

And, if you want to see a fast Indian, watch me in the mountains. Laughing

I'm glad, I was in a city of 350,000 (Waterbury,CT) I could have taken the audience home in my Galant. Crying or Very sad

I'd still rather watch this than just about anything else. (Except for my new movie "Courtney Love on a 750F")

All this talk about Indians, Mexicans, and Ethiopians, has me more upset than a one legged Ethiopian watching a donut roll down a hill. Shocked

Man I can't get anyone to go watch it with me, so I might have to go watch it by myself.

Went last week. It was great. Took the whole family - popcorn and soda to.

It seemed like Roger Donaldson really tried to catch the true story from what I saw. It was about the people more than the machines. It never said - to my recolection - what the final displacement was of the bike he took the record with. Did anyone catch it? Reminded me of the line by Richard Dreyfus in Jaws "I had my appendix out"

Nobody else in the theater got it when I laughed at the burn on his leg. Did anyone else get a chuckle out of the burn immediatley after missing death in a 200+ mph crash?

(I don't think I wrecked the ending - go see it)

I went to see it last week with 3 of my retired cronies who are not motorcycle riders...They thoroughly enjoyed it and caught on right away that it really wasn't about motorcycles at all...Burt Munro followed his passion...Although the Indian was one cool bike and the movie gives understanding to why our bikes are never really "done"..

Counting us there were 8 people in the audience...

Now where is that turbocharger I want to adapt to "da Sleeper"...F3 frontend with floating rotors? You get the picture...

I have seen it twice. Made everyone in my family see it and they enjoyed it.Sir Anthony Hopkins was great in the part and I do not understand how they got an actor of such reknown to do it.

Go to www.worldsfastestindian.com and also look up by google search "burt munro records".Totally fascinating account from old magazines and Burt Munro's own words. Turns out many of the accounts in the movie are true,not the first time as presented but a compilation of his many runs. He did have the goggles and helmet blow off when he came out of the slipstream to stabilize the wobble. He crashed many times with various injuries over the years. He crashed at Bonneville at an estimated speed of 206 mph.

The engine was made by hand by Munro several times over the years. The cylinders were made from old city gas pipe that were removed from the ground,so he cut it up in to savageble pieces. Displacement was just short of 1000 cc at final size. He made con rods out of truck axels. Made the heads to convert from side valve to overhead valve,slowed it down for a time until he got it better. Converted it from 2 cams to 4 cams and made the camshafts.Made his own pistons as was depicted. Hammered the fairing from flat sheets of aluminum. Lived and worked on the bike in a shed and gained an average of 3 1/2 miles per hour per year over 20+ years. No wind tunnel for the fairing,no flow bench for the heads,no dyno except the beach. Running at altitude,the great horsepower equalizer,and set the record of 190+ MPH that still stands,40 years after the fact. The mighty Honda was still pissing around with their biggest,a 305cc engine,when Monro was beating many better looking machines with a pile of junk obsolete in 1920,originally capable of barely 60 MPH.

i waited too long and it had left all the theaters in new england. lo and behold it came this past week to a wonderful old theater called the academy of music in downtown northampton. the place itself must be 100 years old. very cool. anyways there were at least 35-40 people in there and they aplauded at the end. i had a tear in my eye, thats for sure.

i was trying to explain to my wife how unbelievably difficult it was for one man in his shop to build the things he was building, such as forging his own pistons, changing a motor from side valve to ohc. i still dont think i explained it well enough. another thing that struck me was how polite and decent he was to everyone he met. and how cute was that little boy thomas?

it's a real place, full of (well, actually mainly empty of) real people

who are nice...

Wow - an Aussie wanting to live in NZ; now there's a turnaround! Being a Kiwi myself I'll agree that it is a nice country, with mostly nice people. Like every country though, it's not a utopia and it's not without its share of problems....

My hope is that it will come to the small second run movie house in downtown Seymour. I think I'll talk to the owner ,next time I'm there. Sounds like an idea for a meet.

As far as I know it never played in any theater around me, and I wouldn't be able to get out to see it if it did because we have a 6 month old with serious health problems (multiple hospitalizations, possible cerebral palsy) ... so I downloaded the damned thing. And its an awesome film. I'll buy the DVD when it comes out, but since it was a limited release I thought I'd let you guys know it is possible to go the cheap bastard route and see it at home.

Me too. The portrayal in the "movie" was excellent,but nothing beats seeing the real guy. The write ups that I found using search engines was astounding.

Superb movie. Went to see it when it came out a month ago. Enjoyed the scenes of LA from years ago and the "lady" hotel receptionist. Took the wife and she enjoted it to much to my suprise.

Had dinner at the world's fastest restuarant and then home for the world's fastest sex. Tee Hee !!

So there I was, bopping through downtown Seymour when I looked up at the Strand Theater marquee. When I spy the name of the movie playing this weekend. Yup. So, I'm calling out all the Southern Connecticut Fers that expressed the DESIRE to see this movie to join me on Friday or Saturday night. So, speednugget and freddie and zen master bob...........

The DVD is gonna be cool, but it sounds wicked good in stereo! Popcorn
