F'er or R'er or F'R' (ha ha)

Howzit F'ers, went to get some spares for the R the other day so the spares guys asked for the vin number of the frame and the motor.
Turns out the frame number says 1979 900 f2 and the motor is 1982 RC 1100 R.. So what type of F@#*#R am I riding..This should be interesting...All abuse and comments welcome Very Happy

Howzit John, Theres a picture posted on the frapper map, last time I checked I was the only F,er in Africa (on the map that is)

is that the bike in question?? if so...I would say sweet...if not....then sweet it is....

It is possible that someone may of switched the VIN #'s on it. I had that happen to me with a sandcast 750. By switching the #'s, it made the frame worthless.

I think it is a VIN change, or they went to a bunch of work to get the frame correct.

Yep I'm with Ratfink Probably changed it to save some money on insurance.
Either that or it was changed so it could be insured.

It took some time for my insurance company to get things staitended out, they had 83 1100R's listed but no F's.
I had to take photo's of the bike and the VIN to confirm for them.

That is one nice R though,

The bike was first registered in 1979, Possibly one of the first owners wiped out and purchased a new 1100 frame. When I registered the bike two weeks ago the authorities had a problem with the frame vin number an "0" that looked like a "O". Was more intrested in what the bike started off as......To cut a long story short they re stamped the number on the side of the frame above the left foot peg damaging the paint work and still charged about 12 US dollers. Bike is legal on the road and flying.."Thats all that matters"

Does it have the removeable righthand lower down tube? The F frame does, the R does not.

The newer 900F frames also have the rubber mounted engine (The 79, 80, & 81 900 euro bkes did not have the rubber mounted engine).

One other thing that just thought of... Is it possible to install 1100R rearsets on a 900 frame? I remember someone saying that they were not interchangable.

1980 is the first year for CB1100Rs in my records

That frame is definitly an "R" no removable section...Managed to do a comparison after checking that photo of your "R" on your website..(enjoyed the story as well)

Definitely not interchangable - mounting holes are a bit different. Shame cos its a lovely riding position.

Just got back from a 3 hr ride up to the mountain pass near here...Lovely afternoon with no rain and not to much traffic and no blue lights...This ride was dedicated to all you Fr's up north where it's to cold and wet to ride...Hang in there

Hot it is Rat...Days go up to around 36 deg C+ evenings are nice though temps go down to around 12 deg C. I live in a farming Town called Nottingham road about 150 km inland from the indian ocean (Durban) east coast, temps there go up to 42 deg C+. Winters are pretty moderate up here, (one can ride all year) with day temps of between 12 & 20 deg c evenings go down to -6 deg C. Get snow maybe once in three years in the town but mostly it snows on the mountain peaks...last year we had a dusting of snow about three times only...GOOD BIKING COUNTRY
