Motorcycle Mag Advice

My subscription to Cycle World is running out. What does everyone here like. CW isn't bad, but my complaint is it centers around sport bikes. Are there better mags out there, or should I renew to CW because all mags focus on sport bikes?

I only got one copy of the magazine called T.W.O. but it was pretty sweet. Had tons of info and some good articals. I am wanting one to that when I get around to it.

While waiting for my sub of CW to come to me, I picked up a mag called Metric Bike at Walmart. I like it. It has readers rides in it that are pretty interesting and really good trip articles by readers. I like reading trip articles, where, what bike and such...I'm going to grab a sub of this mag as well. I am going to let mine of Hot Bike run out thought...I asked the same question about 3 months ago...might want to do a search for it...pretty interesting.

I'm on to a newer mag that comes out once every 2 month's called Motorcycling Classics... It has all makes and models and is a pretty darn good read.

I was just sitting here wondering whether to renew CW which I received as a gift last year. I'm still steamed about the article they did a few months ago where they all got cheap older bikes and went on a ride. The tone of the article was sort of, "Hey, look how cute this whole thing is. Aren't we cool to be slumming like this?" This while on bikes many of us might own and trust. It made me wish I would have stopped by the CW booth at the Hoot to show them how I'd just done a 400+ mile high-speed run through the mountains to get there and was leaving to do the same on the way home, all on my 25 year old beauty.

Anyway, I'll check out Motorcycling Classics. Thanks for the tip.

As you are right on the border, slip across and score a copy of Cycle Canada. I've subscribed since it was newsprint and motorbikes had pedals ! I've also run through Cycle World, Rider etc, but have only stayed with Cycle Canada. It is nicely formatted, on good paper and has beautiful photography. They review a variety of bike types each issue, have a vintage page, racing news, a personal reader's story and some type of modified bike highlighted each issue. The bikes are usually similar to US models. There are sometimes nice travel articles and I always eat lots of bran when it comes so I can sit on the throne for an extended read !
I still have two massive boxes of past issues of Cycle Canada and US mags that really need to leave. Anyone able to drive to Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia can have 'em !

Here is a link to my favorite.
THey have huge mags filled with tins of info artical pictures and rundowns on just about any bike.
Only downside is that it is British... J/K
I actually like their view somtimes, kinda commical, and they have a different way of wording things.
Not a bad read at all, and you can take a demo of the mag when you click on the subscribe area.

CW is not all that bad. Except for Peter Egan's fairy tales, it is nice readings. I like Dave Edwards. At least he doesn't come across as full of himself as Mitch Boehm. That's the main reason I changed my Motorcyclist subscription to Rider.

I always try to pick up classic motorcycle mechanics.

They cover everything from classic brits to the last street legal two strokes. It's not for everyone since they show scary stuff like the insides of bikes, tools, worn parts and heaven forbid RUST! I don't know how they handled it, I was too frightened by the pictures to read the article. I assume they took it in for dealer service just like the cycleworld long term bikes.

The magazine really is fantastic for old bike nuts, it's almost enough to make me subscribe if it weren't for the $80 bucks a year for 12 issues.

I knew there was a reason I like valveshim! Peter Egan pisses him off too. My pet peeve is when he brags about his heated garage.

My favorite bike magazine out of England is "Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics" They rebuild stuff that even the most hardy of us consign to the dumpster. BIZARRE STUFF!!! Even a multi part series on a 900F.

I'm still trying to get one of my publisher friends to start a magazine on grassroots motorcycles called "Sprockets"

Here's another vote for classic motorcycle mechanics - There's not as much mechanics in it as there used to be, but it's the only magazine I know of that actually takes old stuff apart and puts it back together.

RIDER magazine is a good read. I keep thinking they might even discover this group and do up an article. That would be great for us and better for them. I sent an E-mail once,trying to stir some interest,but it was never answered. Man,I hate that! But, maybe they're a little scared that the old F's might out shine those new rides they are testing!

Just picked up this bi-monthly mag (Road RUNNER) from the bookstore and it seem to be pretty good. Lot's of artciles on rides with maps and points of interest.

I signed up for a subscription during the CycleWorld Bike Show stop here last January. It is a well done mag. Emphasis is on touring riding. The publisher/editor, Christian Neuh

Last time I picked up a copy of Rider it had a CB1100F on the back page. It's good reading too.

Also it's cool to subscribe to a Brit bike mag (the only European ones we can read). You can see all the models we'll never get in the US.
