Thanks, actually as much a test as a post. In my youth I use to ride across the border both north and south (NH & RI) just to take my lid off.
Looking forward to getting to know you all! |

It would appear that Steve the Red has not known enough Knob-Gobblers in his tour of this time- space continuum? |

The article is from abate. I think that says everything.
Full face 99.9% of the time, 2 times in recent years without one and on one of them I crashed. Face plant at Daytona. It did hurt! They are not very understanding at Halifax Medical Center of stupid bikers. I must admit that when not wearing my helmet I was the stupid biker.

Won't ride without one. We ride in Kentucky a lot, where there is no helmet law, & get a lot of funny looks, but we both do helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, etc. I hate helmet laws, but I always wear the skid lid.
I really love these jokers who wear a brain bucket (pointless in their cases) to comply with the law, but wear tank tops, shorts, & sandals. TB |

If she laughs a good honest laugh, slap a helmet on her head, go for a spirited ride, and you are good to go. |

Illustrating the problem.
Yesterday afternoon I was in the front room of the shop talking face to face with three customers when in walks this young man, about 23-26 years old 1.82 meters tall & 111 Kg, that is looking for a 180/55ZR17 rear tire for his 04 YZF600R6. So, he is a big kid for an R6. I was busy when he rode up so I never got a chance to see him pull up or even look at his bike. After my Assistant & I helped the customers ahead of him I greeted him & he stated: "I need a Tire for my bike." I said: "What year make & model bike do you have?" Instead of saying 04 R6, he said: |

You only do that untill you have a horrible crash, your girlfriend dies, you have to sell the R6 for scrap in order to afford the gravestone for your girlfriend and no more girls will date you becuase you look like this ->
I met a guy at Laguna Seca (superbike races) about 7 years that was speeding in improper gear and had a car pull out in front of him with his girl on the back. His girl died and he was in the hospotal for months. He had zippers all over his body. Zippers all over his face, legs, arms etc.
Wear a godamm helmet, wear gloves, wear jeans (ray!!), and a godamm jacket. |

All joking aside - here's my perspective.
I love riding - I hope I never have to stop. When I fall off, I don't want any long term injuries, and particularly injuries that would prevent me from ever riding again.
Good riding gear not only protects me for my friends and family's sake, it protects my ability to keep riding. |

"WHEN" not if! If you have not made this realization yet then you have acquired an extremely dangerous addiction called motorcycling that is going to get the better of you sooner or later.
I manage my addiction by wearing full body armor on most occasions. I may be an addict, but I was at work all day on May 27th of this year after tagging a deer at high speed & waking up in the ditch on the 26th. My medical bills were under $50. Yes, I wasted about $500USD worth of armor. Yes, it still hurt very very badly, but I was at work less than 14 hours after the wreck.

I wear it I am way to inexperienced and young not to. I also wear gloves and a leather riding jacket. I am looking at a textile jacket for added protection and temp comfort. The leather jacket gets hot in the sommer time. I wish we had some advanced rider training here I would certainly like to take advantage of that. We do have a school that travels around and teaches some basics. In order to get in though you have to start signing up in Jan. I figure it wouldn't do anything but help improve my skill and performance. |

Ya it's amazing how much you can learn in one of those classes. Not only that it will amaze you how much more there is to learn and how that will better prepare you for the worst. |

When I ride....I wear a full face helmet with a dark tinted visor, Icon holigan leather gloves, either a Joe Rocket ballistic or mesh jacket(both with built in protection) depending on the temp, and non-insulated motorcycle boots to protect the ankles and shins. Throw in a bandana
(to hide my "helmet head") ear plugs and jeans and I'm good to go! |

My 2 cents....
Being an EMT up here in a town off of the local interstate I get to see my share of accidents, cars and otherwise.. You find out quick that the body can take a lot of punshiment and still recover. The head on the otherhand can take relatively little. When the brain begins to swell it has no where to go and damage begins fairly quickly. One kid slid his car sideways into a telephone pole. You'd look at him and his injuries seemed minor. Problem, his head stuck the inside of the door and that was it. To the trauma center in less that the magic hour but still didn't make it..
One more example is Indian Larry... Drops, bounces his head off the pavement. From what I understand, his only injury was to his head.
I use a helmet when I snowboard and when I bike (both powered and pedal)... Now, should it be a law, I bounce both ways. For the younger crowd, yup. Too many hormones flying all around to make a rational personal decision. Peer pressure to "be cool", etc... For the older crowd, like I said there are good aruments on both sides of the fence...

i liken wearing a helmet to having sex with a condom." yes youre a lot safer, but it just aint the same!" besides i prefer peripheral vision, not sweating in summer, and bugs are a good source of nourishment! |

good analogy but what happens when the 1 in a million happens? You have triplits and brain matter spread across the street. Helmets are designed NOT to inhibit you vision... you would have as much vision with a helmet then without If you sweat easily having the visor open a quarter inch and wear glasses you will stay cooler. |

That's odd, this is exactly the argument I used to sucessfully convince my old lady to always wear a leather motorcylce jacket & full face Nolan N100 helmet when ever she rides her 79 CB750F.
I guess that is why I have always liked women that have Masters Degrees. Being able to think & reason clearly is so sexy. Maybe that is why she rides a sportbike & does not have kids?

Amen, brotha. My only problem is mine has gotten her masters in education and she is significantly more inteligent than I am. She also teaches Special Ed., and that's most likely why we get along so well....she understands me and has the extra patience..... I havent gotten her onto her own bike yet, but she likes mine..... does that count? |
