I realized some of you talk of the exhoaut blueing. mine has done that. Its a wierd blue, purple, psychadellic look to it. Why does that happen and is it bad? |

well from the exhaust valve on is subject to very high temps and the chrome can't take it... its like putting a tourch on a piece of metal it will discolor.
usually by proper jetting and polishing forever you can keep this from happening.... and no its not bad. |

In other words a High luster of colors can be totally groovy!
But proceed with caution too many heavy colors can be catastrophic sending your chrome on a bad trip Man

here's one for Ripley's....beleive it or not,
the pipes on my old 76 cb750 were going a bit shabby with the usual pitting & surface rust - so i got the old steel wool out and gave them a clean up,
then for insurance i rust treated them head to toe..... cleaned all that off with steel wool and polished them again,
a month later and after a couple of rides i have noticed that the trippy colours have not come back, instead they now have a slight yellowish tinge that is only noticeable to the discerning eye.
Believe it or not....... |

You don't say if your pipes are stock or aftermarket, and are you running stock carbs and airbox or pods? Blueing is from exhaust heat. It COULD be a sign of lean running. Stock CBF's with stock pipes do not seem to blue much, if at all, from what I have seen. Some aftermarket pipes will blue tho, since they are cheaper, thinner, etc. If you have made mods that make your bike run leaner, that also could be causing it.
The blueing itself is harmless, but if you are running too lean, you might have some problems. If your bikes runs fine, no stumbles, etc, you are probably ok. |

This is just one more reason I prefer black pipes. |

The stock pipes had two layers. This made them heavy, but they did not blue as much. |

Correct. The stock pipes will generally only show blueing at the end of their lifespan when the inner wall of the pipe begins to break up from heat and corrosion. My first set was nice for a while, then showed blueing, then major discolouration, and then tiny pin-holes began to appear in the first bend from the cylinder head. |
