You can check clearance at TDC but be careful opening valves to replace the shim when piston is at TDC. The valves can easily hit the piston crown.

Epoxy appliance paint is almost as good as powder coat. It is really tough and not brittle. Really hard to chip or scratch.

these are easy to find. 900/1100 come with chrome steel collars but 750 (and 1100R) came with aluminum. I recommend the aluminum to save weight but you will need to drill them out for the larger 900 ...
