I need a stand to hold a CB750F motor while I take down top end. Does anyone know where I can find one reasonable or have plans to build one?
I tried to do a search but kept getting cannot display page message. I would appreciate any help I could get. |

I was thinking of building one. I'd like a suggestion too if anyone has one.

Do you have an auto engine stand, like one of those cheapy Chinese ones?
It takes three pieces of metal to adapt one of these to hold a bike motor.
Use two angle pieces same size say 2" on each leg and 1" wide. Bolt hole in end of each leg.
Now the harder piece to find is a much larger angle piece say 4" wide by 4" on each leg.
The large angle piece bolts in the center of the engine stand mine uses 4 bolts into the engine stand slots and the two angle pieces on each side. A motor mount bolt goes through the two and the larger piece you use a piece of wood as a shim to flip it over to do transmission.
The top rear motor mounts are where it attaches and the shim piece lays on the top of the transmission area. |

I found this thread and copied the theory behind it. Mine was a whole lot simpler, but also holds the motor upright for working on the head. Both allow you to "flip" the motor for access underneath.
Basically, 2 "L" brackets attached to a flat surface with a rod that goes through the rear motor mounts. These pics are worth a million words (thread and pic courtesy of Stoutblock):

This was my cheapo version. I could slide the mount with motor on it off the table, onto a hand truck and move it easily around (like outside to clean and paint it):

I like my K&L engine stand that I bought from Old Bike Barn. It is a model MC25 and can be found here:

Thanks for those pics of the engine! Now I understand the whole shim business! The cam lobes actually push the valves directly! |

Heres mine. The engine is bolted down from underneath where the bolts that hold the exhaust normally go.
That cut out on the side allows a jack to roll underneath it to help get it out of the frame.
Good luck,

I like it! Anyone know whether these are available from any one in the UK or Europe? |

If you have the engine stand all it takes is a couple of angle pieces and bolted to the motor stand face plate.
This mounts to only the top case so you can work on top and bottom of the engine.
Enterprising to use the all thread and spacer tubes to use all the mounts. |

Bumping this thread because I've finally got an engine stand that works ...
The different holes allow me to use any combination of the engine mounting holes, so that every part of the motor is accessible. Plus, I can flip it over on its side or upside down.
It was fabricated by a guy in NI who advertises them on ebay for Ducatis. He modified the Sealey faceplate (OK, drilled 3 holes) to take his mounting plate.
The mounting bracket assembly fits on a Sealey 350Kg engine stand. |
