I'm fascinated that the difference between 100 and 120 is what, .2mm? And that's what makes a significant difference? Has anyone ever actually verified that carbs don't run on some kind of black magic?

.2mm is A HUGE amount, when you are measuring the amount of gasoline flowing through the ports...

1100russ, I’m on the same boat as you, concerning the air box. LOL

Bernoulli, that fairly sums it up, eh..

sorry for reviving this thread, but I didn't see anyone recommend the number of turns for the air mix screws with these jetting changes and 38 slow?

I'm pretty sure I'm at the recommended 2.5 turns out. I have the exact set up as you with the one-size-larger 38 jet

I searched around a bit on here for recommendations on jetting for Pods. Figured I would share my success here for others to have as a data point:

1983 CB1000C with the stock carbs for that year, Uni-foam pod filters that do not block the carb inlet ports.

Pilot Jets: 38

Needles: CBX needles

Primary Main: 72

Secondary Main: 130

Turns on Mix Screw: 1.25

It is still a little rich at idle, so I'm going to assume I could go in further with the mix screws. They still have the little flag things on the screw so I cannot go in any further at this time.

Hope this helps someone else to succeed without the airbox.

Removing the tabs from the mixture screws is not a difficult proceedure.
Mike Nixon uses a soldering iron to heat up the glue holding them on.
A short video.

Another method which i used is a small torch and melt the tab itself.

Chi, old post, but once you've removed the airbox and changed a bunch of other stuff to compensate, I'd recommend you set your mixture using exhaust gas analysis or use a Gunson Colortune. Too many variables at that point to just say set it like this IMO.

Does the bike run smoothly at low RPM/load just cruising around with the pods and this jetting?
