Yay - all done. Drove to Tauranga from Waihi today - had the faceplate off the cluster and a new bulb in pretty quickly. Signed a couple of forms, zip tied the NZ plate over the US one and rode the bike home. Looking forward to some nice weather and getting out on the roads in the area. |

I was pleasantly suprised at how easy the process was - hardest part was working out where to put the registration and WOF labels.
Weather is really turning nice (summer is on the way) so I promise the next photo will be somewhere scenic! |

Here is what quite a few of us do here in NZ Peter. I don't like having the tags hanging off the number plate
Welcome home!
P.S. The screw securing your indicator stalk needs to be screwed down fully flush |

Technically both my registration and WOF holders are hanging off the plate mount versus the plate itself (but I have seen where people have drilled and mounted them directly to the plate).
There just aren't a lot of clean options - but I'm happy where they are for now.
Nice 1100F! |

With the bike all legal, I've turned my attention to the TA. I had left it with a place in Auckland that was going to work through the compliance process for me, but that all turned to poo when Auckland went into lockdown due to COVID.
I ended up shipping it down to Waihi and it is now booked in for the compliance check on December 30th. It is being done by the same place in Tauranga that did the 900.
Unfortunately, this will be much more complicated than the bike and I have a list of things I'm working through before the 30th. I finished replacing the headliner today and will get the seatbelts in tomorrow.

Looks beautiful! Most shows I watch out of NZ have dark skies and the threat of rain (ie The Gulf).
We're thinking it would be nice to spend a summer there post Covid But that flight! OMG, fastest is a whopping 30 hours out of Toronto.
Still a couple of feet of snow here and -22C
Wondering if you have found any of your favourite roads like this one from 2007. I recall you had a few things to say about it |

Wow - I look very serious in that photo Oddly enough on that ride I had K&N filters, but I somehow managed to bring the same bike to NZ with stacks only.
And yes - I remember the ride very well!

Taking care of some long overdue maintenance on the 900. Started with new rear wheel bearings and tire.
I purchased the Dymags a while back with the tires already fitted. I've never been happy with the 60 series rear, so I replaced it with a 150/70/18 BT46.
I was very nervous about removing (and sourcing) the rear wheel bearings but they came out easily enough and are a readily available size.
Interesting that there are no separate seals - just the outers on the bearings and nothing else. The Dymags are pre-2000 versions with no cush drive (just nylon bushes). Sprockets aren't readily available and mine needs replacing.
Next is new bearings and tire on the front and then I need to get the Works shocks rebuilt. I'll probably wait for winter to rebuild the shocks as the bike will be out of action while I'm waiting on parts from the US. |

And doing any work on the bike is a good excuse for a test ride.

And it's taken a while - but new bearings, seal and new tire (BT46) on the front wheel;
While I was waiting for the bearings and tire to be fitted I pulled the forks and painted the lowers (there were a number of old PA inspection stickers that needed to go).
Rear shocks rebuild next on the list. |

Been a long time since this bike has worn OEM shocks.
Big shout out to Mr. Hyland who was kind enough to ship me a set of loaner shocks so that I can send the Works away for a rebuild. |

And another nice day for a ride - this is on the road from Waihi to Whangamata (with the ocean way off in the distance);

Finally managed to source a rear spocket for the early style Dymag.
The early style cush drive uses six nylon bushes on the hub that are enaged by round dowels on the sprocket - these need to be pressed in and then the sprocket is held on the hub by a large circlip;
I'm still waiting for the rebuild on the Works shocks - but that's a story for another day. |

I've heard good feedback about Thor as well. I think I may have spoken to him a few years back about some Fox shocks I had.
Works Performance shocks can still be rebuilt in the US (http://www.worxshocks.com/). I sent a set to them a few years back for a rebuild. It ended up being pricey as the shafts needed to be replaced, but I was happy that I could save them.
Unfortunately, now that I'm in NZ sending shocks back to the US for a rebuild is problematic. Pressurized shocks of any kind cannot go via air, so they would have to go by ship there and back. It's just not practical. So I've sent them off to a Kiwi Suspension Solutions (https://www.kss.net.nz/). They dissassembled the shocks and let me know what parts were required. I then worked with Worx in the US to get the parts purchased and shipped. Dealing with Worx has been a long and difficult exercise - I've only just received the rebuild parts from them last week. Those parts are on their way to KSS so I hope to have the shocks back soon.
And - apologies for the width of this post - I think someone added a picture earlier on that blew the size up. |

Finally have the Works shocks back on the bike. It's been a long process.
KSS accidentally switched the lower clevis mounts during the rebuild, so I had to send them back to get that corrected. All taken care of though.
Looking forward to a long test ride today. |
