Tried my hand at powdercoating today, no sense wasting all that heat on a single pork belly.
Will check the results when all cooled down.

How did the pork belly turn out? I would be afraid to put it in with the powder coated parts...might pick up foul flavor.
Sure looks good though..... |

Sorry, just a sad joke.
That belly was 1 of 6 and no powdercoating was done. Triple maple bacon, cured with maple sugar, maple syrup, and smoked with hardwood maple, everything but the salt from a friends farm.
Max temp on the smoker is 300F, probably can't powder coat in there so tomk1960 is safe for now. Fo the bacon connoisseurs, the pork bellies smoked at 150F until they reached 128F internal temperature. Two more savory pork bellies to do and done for the year. I guess I can look into a decal wrap and get a bacon themed 900f on the road next year.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't alter the pressure at all from the ride down, so you're probably right. Would you suggest I drop it 5 or so pounds? |

there's a few good articles about this: when you read up you'll note its more about reading the evidence and adjusting the pressure to suit - that suits your bike / tyre etc.. - generally you do drop the pressure versus normal road condition
best source of info though is to ask around at the local track
example: https://www.facebook.com/davemosstuning/posts/480199495323544
keep chewing them up though |

That tyre looks good to me. No evidence of cold tearing from high pressure or blueing from overheating. It looks just right. The balling is just pick up from rubber on the track. |

I think you may be right Don, I could peel the bits off, and it appeared they had attached themselves to the tyre rather than were part of it?
Either way, still a great learning experience
cheers guys. |

Yet again I haven't actually done anything to my bike.
However, I have managed to get in contact with my bike painter. He's out of jail and intends to drop my tank off to me next weekend
Hopefully it's now properly painted and the word 'drop' is only a figure of speech.
And I've bought a pair of tickets to go to the Bikers Classics Meeting (June 30th, July 1st and 2nd) at Spa-Francochamps in Belgium
Bikers Classics link
I intend to go on my bike, with a dearly loved friend. We'll be camping at the circuit and taking a leisurely day or two either side of the meeting.
I'm really looking forward to meeting any members who can get there this year, in particular Captain and the team |

The saga of my bike's paint job continues on a pace.
I took my tank back to the painter because it wasn't quite up to the mark.
Due to having had a lot on my plate recently, I didn't contact him for a couple of weeks and then couldn't for some reason.
Last week I went to his new workshop, at lunch time on Saturday. It was locked up.
This week I got there at around 11am, it was locked up again
This time the next unit along was still open and working, so I knocked on the door and asked about the paint and body shop.
It turns out it's been locked up for some time, because he's in jail
I hope it's on account of his business partner and not him, because it's on drugs charges.
They can't get bail because his partner has skipped bail in the past, so the authorities here aren't giving them the chance to skip.
So at the moment I've got painted and powder coated fork sliders, to match painted front mud guard (fender), two sets of side panels and tail unit.
No tank or seat trim pieces and no petcock or cap.
Getting another tank shouldn't be too difficult. Getting it painted to exactly match everything else probably will be.
I was also supposed to get a can of base colour for repairing any paint damage, doubt there's any chance of that now
I might be able to get my parts back, but it isn't going to be easy because I'm always away during the week
This has turned into a damned nightmare |

I changed my chain adjustment configuration from push to pull. The former type was just too fiddly and slow for swinging the little spanner.

First time posting here in this section. Ive been whittling away at my parts list in my 750f. As of this week ive ordered: fork seal wipers, Progressive springs for my 35mm factory forks, EBC heavy duty clutch springs, oem used footpegs from ebay, those cheapo ebay RFY shocks but theyre factory sized and Im shooting for 1-2" over stock for an aggressive stance so I have to send them back and get new ones, and an emgo paper air filter. I also cannibalized my THIRD air box, since its rubber was all in fantastic shape but sadly the body looks like it got exposed to a gas fire or extreme heats and melted. So I took my free second airbox that had a triangular chunk missing from the access panel, degreased the whole thing, taped up, and did a 2 layer JB weld repair to fill in the quarter sized missing chunk. Its been two days of curing, ill take the dremel out and grind it to shape, then sand the full body, fill the scrapes, primer and match the cast iron gray engine paint, and the side covers will be painted with matching truck bed liner.
Ive got my engine built, now its time to get the frame rolling so my plan this weekend is install new wheel bearings on the rear rim, get valvestems in both, install my tires, then dry assemble the front end and swingarm, shocks, and forks so we can get a roller frame for my custom shop guy to fabricate a rear tail hoop with integrated led strip lights, and an electronics box that will house my full size battery between the upper shock mounts.
Questions though, is it better to install my new bearings before or after powdercoat? |

After, I doubt the sealed bearings are rated for powdercoat cure temps. Why take the chance since they don't need to be there. |

Crap, well I need advice then. Since I tossed the old bearings as I was originally planning on having the rims powdercoated, then installing bearings, I only have the new ones. I figured since the shop is quoting me $90 per rim for PC, I was going to wait until Ive gotten all the frame mods done, and all the parts cleaned up that Im planning on getting PC. I assume the shop will give me a bit of a break if im getting a whole heap of stuff PC all at once. My buddy whos gonna mod the frame says we should make it a roller first so we can get the dimensions of the electronics box set right, and suggested we just use the rims before PC, get my tires on, and go from there. What seems the easiest? Should I just get my rims PC and get the new bearings in, then make the roller? Or barely seat the bearings, and pull them before PC? |

Ive been working on my airbox. I had three of them, first one was missing all its trim, had bad boots and ended up tossing it. Second one was a CB750F one from 79, but had a quarter sized chunk missing behind the access door. Almost tossed it. Ordered a third airbox from RicePaddy which was a 750C one with metal trim, had perfect rubber all the way around but looks like the bottom caught fire and melted. Was in the process of sanding it down until I realized my better luck was with the 79F one. Degreased it, taped it up, and repaired the chunk with JB weld, two applications. Let cure for 72 hours and used my dremel to shape it. Then 400 grit sandpaper all the way around to smooth out the little dings and provide a proper adhesion for primer. Its on its first coat of primer and looking fantastic so far. Im going to match the airbox to my engine paint, so the body is going to be painted with VHT engine enamel Cast Iron Gray, and the plastic side panels will be painted with the Rustoleum truck bed liner. Has anyone else here ever prepped and painted thier airbox? |

I think that would work, with no engine in the frame not much of a load. When done they should fall out with just some small taps to the outer races. |

I had some 1100 covers on my 1100f rebuild returned ceramic coated and wanted the Honda logo to show better and also picked up one of charliemarley's RSC covers so it got the same treatment. Materials for this was black nail polish (figuring it was easier to remove should I not care for the result), alcohol for the prep work, and non-acetone nail polish remover. Here is the RSC cover after prepping:
and then after the nail polish was applied:
After waiting 10 minutes the excess nail polish was removed by lightly swabbing with some non-linting cotton pads dampened with the nail polish remover:
