At the end of this month AHRMA has it's west coast round at Willow Springs.

April 28th and 29th. Saturday there is a vintage bike show, racing and swap meet and Sunday there is racing and swap meet.

$10 for the week end which is a fantastic bargain.

Yoshi usually brings something special to fire up and do a parade lap. Last year it was 3 and 4 cylinder MV's, the year before, one of the Brittens. Should be a great time.

Last year i saw a nicely turned out 1100f and a tastefully modified CBX which was for sale.

Has anyone else bween to this event. The more the merrier.

Chef

We drove up there last year because it was a week after my wreck. I met Dennis and Al.

I'm heading out there to race (I've got the entry form on my kitchen table now) and have gone the last couple of years. I took my CB-F roadracer out there last year but had tranny trouble (popping in & out of 3rd under power) so I had to ride my Z1. I spent all day working on the #2 CB-F (the one with many improvements) and still don't know if it'll be ready. I might take it for spares... I should be riding the same bike as in my avatar; an '80-'81-'82 CB-750-900-985F. It's been behaving well since Mid-Ohio last year (knock on wood) except for getting dropped at Barber.

I've been watching the AHRMA series and it appears there's another CBX running the east coast rounds which makes a total of 3 CBXs in Vintage Superbike - maybe. Dr. Tom blew his up last year at Barber (it was his oil I crashed in) so I don't know if he'll be there, but he did have the parts to fix it at the end of last year. The second guy rides out of Georgia I think, so I doubt he'll be there. I don't know where the 3rd CBX comes from; I haven't seen that guy yet. Big Al will likely be there but on his Z1 so I'm not sure if there'll be anyone running a Honda in Vintage Superbike except me.

There are some really cool bikes out there for sure. 2 years ago they ran a Britten around the track along with a reproduction Moto Guzzi 500cc V-8 (!) plus a bunch of other european cool stuff like two 500cc GP MV-Agustas - one was a triple and the other a four. The bike show had some trick stuff too - I remember some TZ-750 and 500 two-stroke 4-cyl bikes, some triples, and some other vintage race bikes.

I'm tentatively planning to show up there, but I'll likely be with my family. Still would be nice to bump into a few F'ers though.

Wow,

A Brittan and a V8 Guzzi (being sure to pronounce the z's in guzzi like one would pronounce the z's in pizza), great stuff, what a sight and sound. Sorry I missed it.

Ill be there to ride in Dennis' wake.
The mighty Z1 now has CR carbys. Practice is Friday and racing both days. I believe its 10 dollars a day. Still a bargain.

Al, you're going to love those CRs on your bike. The light and quick throttle was worth as much to me as how much better the bike ran.

There's a local race here next weekend, then off to Willow Springs the week after. Here's the AHRMA link for Willow Springs: AHMRA link

I'm still not sure if I'll have two CB-Fs and a Z1 or one CB-F and two Kwackers. The second CB-F still has a LOT of work to do, but the motor is almost done - degree the cams and set clearances and it should be good for 'parts'. If it's close, I'll take it for spares "just in case"; it it's not close it'll be the "rolling assembly of Z1 spares" that takes up the third slot.

I think there's going to be a bunch of people riding in the wakes of others - I'm worried about some fast people who might show up. ('fast' means 'faster than me' just like 'slow' means 'slower than me'.) I think I'll podium, but winning might take a lot more than I'm willing to contribute!

I think there may be a couple new-to-me competitors who are fast and then there's the same batch of characters that I found fast last year. (see definition of fast above....)

I am now officially counting the days until the season begins.

I encourage everyone to catch an AHRMA event if there's one in your area. I go down to CMP in Kershaw, SC every year and just wandering the paddock and talking to everybody is a lot of fun.

Here's some pics from 2005: AHRMA at CMP
