HOW COLD?

i'm in NH and it's about as cold as i've ever felt it! i work in a snowmobile store and these guys are nuts! tomorrow morning is supposed to be around 50 below with the wind chill! and they are all going up north! all the schools are closed cause the school buses won't start, fuels gellin. this is insane, where's summer!

Bob,
Not sure its a good idea to give all our thin blooded, warm climate buddies a chance to gloat.
Those of us who live up here in the frozen north are right with you and I don't think anyone has heard from Nanuq since the snow got higher than his phone poles.

Hey, it is getting cold down south as well. Tonight in Miami it is supposed to go down to 55 !!!! You should see the people all bundled up. You would think they are up with Nanuq the way they are dressed. Luckily it will be back to 75 tomorrow.

I am not allowed to get involved in differences of temp disscusions anymore but I can tell you that yesterday it rained here in Cairns, 186mm or 7 5/16inch in 24 hours and it did stop a few times.
Our rainy season is about to begin
I have to have a little laugh when some of you talk about your snowmobiles to ride in the snow as here when it really starts to rain some people get out their jetskis to ride the flooded streets.
Today no rain but very steamy as everything dries out.

It got pretty cold in Beautiful Downtown Winterpock, Virginia yesterday........Our High was down to 53F! I was almost shiverin' w/o my coat on.

-8f here last night. Our schools closed down today, cause it's too cold. Back in my day, we walked 3 miles each way to scool, uphill both ways, and the whole class had to share one boot.

CB1100f asked is that normal? This time of year is our rainy or wet season with some places around here averaging over 4mtrs/14ft of rain a year. Monsoonal downpours like this are not rare and the temp is normally in the mid to high 30c with humidity around the 80% plus range.
South of Cairns is a place called Tully where the highest rainfull recorded was around 8 mtrs, they do whitewater rafting there and occaisionally that gets cancelled due to too much water.
A tourist/visitor to this area described the last downpour here as like walking outside and having someone dump a bucket of water over you. Smile

I *thought* I sniffed my name shuttling back and forth on the intnernet! Well here I am back again gents, and we're celebrating... it's above zero for the first time in weeks! It's been holding at -20F to -25F (ambient) for the last week or so... the best wind chill I saw this week was -72F. But the best on my mtn bike was a paltry -45F... hardly seems worth mentioning, all things considered. I've had the scouts out camping and we're having a ball! There's nothing like sleeping in a tarp when it's cold enough to freeze the propane lanterns.

Hang in there guys, we're on the upswing from Solstice now and the sun is coming back.... I promise it is. We're up to nearly 6 hours of daylight now and counting!

Oh yeah, these guys are the best! I've never seen them give up because it was too wet or too cold. Here's what we do if we're not building shelters from tarps:

we are in another cold snap, suppose to last 20 days or more. the scary thing is we haven't had any snowfall. it's killin our business, no one is riding thier sleds.

Mike, good luck, and be brave. I woiuld bet you don't have a snow blower, but if you do, now it the time to add a little race gas to it, just in case you need that extra boost.

Not to worry! I've modified my intake so some of the snow enters the snowblowers intake, immediately flashing to vapor, removing all traces of carbon from the intake & combustion chambers! And, there's no need for plug gap reduction! Head Banger

Speaking of "chilly" we're just back from a campout, we built snow caves and tarp shelters and had a blast! Clear and cold, that's way I like it.

Now there's sleeping bags unzipped and airing out all over the house. I even have one (horror of horrors!) draped over Scooter in the garage!

See there IS something these beasts are good for in the off season.
