Well it feels like it has taken me most of 2020 to get this far however I finally today received back my modified 11F headers from fireball coatings in Canada. http://fireballcoatings.com/ For a long while I was not able to get in touch with them and assumed they were closed for Covid. Then Chris helped me out and discovered they were working. It was then a good 7 weeks between my sending of the parts to getting them back today. So they are selling this as gloss black ceramic however when I first enquired they did say `The gloss black has a limit of 1200 deg F ......where it will begin to dull out.....the gloss finish into a matte finish. We can't guarantee it won't loose its shine at the top bend. 4" from the exhaust port' Anyhow, that said, what I have is very shiny as can be seen in the pics below. I have included a black chrome Marving muffler for reference. I will now assemble this system onto my 1100R where hopefully it will be pretty close to what the OE system looked like. I doubt I'm going to be able to give updates as to how it holds up with extensive use as this bike is a bit of a garage queen and gets ridden very little. |

Beautiful. It makes me want to go for it and have my delkevic done in a gloss black like that. It’s a tough decision for me to make tho: any kind of color switch / painting. I guess you just gotta go for it. It looks great tho! |

They look good Nick. With those header pipes being double walled, the gloss coating may stand up to the heat at the exhaust ports. How was your overall dealing with that business?
Does your 1100R use the steel finned collars or the aluminum? I wonder if there is any difference between the two for heat dissipation?
Take some pics when you have it all bolted up.
Cheers!

Yeah I was thinking the double wall headers may help and the flanges on the R are aluminum which does conduct heat better than steel so may help as well. I spent a good amount of time putting the system together today and am delighted with the way it has turned out. It was quite a fiddle to make it all fit as it needs to clear the fairing along with all the regular bike parts. It looks fantastic and the pics just don't do it justice. Fireball are not that communicative and somewhat slow. But they do excellent work. The gloss black ceramic is very close to black chrome in appearance. |

Looks great! Now you just need a nice, rainy day to go for a ride with it.

It looks great, Nick. REALLY great! I can imagine how happy you are.
It's good to know that there is now a glossy ceramic finish out there. I assume that the finish Fireball used isn't proprietary, so now we just have to find out who the manufacturer is. Once we know, anyone who wants this done can see if their local ceramic coating shop can get the paint. |

From what they told me as the process went along I think its a two stage process using a high gloss clear over the primary black coat. |

Let us know how they survive with some miles on them would be good .
Look bloody sharp at the moment . I looked into it a few years ago and coaters didn't want to do it .

I have 3 candidates waiting for a viable gloss black exhaust finish but they will all be on riders so it has to hold up to the heat. Can't wait to hear how this turns out. Fingers Crossed. |
