comments are interesting - you can put them in two camps - only one of which works
camp A "what can be done to make them notice"
camp B "nothing - you got to accept this and ride with anticipation" - forsure apply any / all of the techniques used by the A group to help reduce the potential but at the end of the day, if you don't want a few weeks in hospital then just assume they are likely to pull out and be prepared

and if you don't apply the golden rule of long distance observing / planning then all you'll be able to do is start to say "oh shi "

John, that is a very interesting article and a must read for every motorist. I read something similar a couple of years ago. This is the reason why I mounted additional driving lights so that I don't "look" like a motorcycle.
