I took the newly acquired 900F out for a spin today and other than riding like a hardtail (feels like the stock(!) units have turned from shock absorbers into shock enhancers, it runs & stops pretty good. Thinking back, the shocks were the 2nd thing I changed on my original one about a year after I bought it.

In addition to shocks, it also needs tires.

So what are some good choices? Re tires, less interested in longevity than handling.

And can the Comstar rims handle 90 degree valve stems?

I would get a set of Shinko 230 Tour Master tires, about $140 at denniskirk.com

Shocks I would check out the Ikons with Nils (forum name NobleHops)

https://www.ikonshocksusa.com/collections/honda/products/7610-1413

These are the shocks formerly known as Koni so you might have thought about using them back in the day and they will look correct on your vintage 900f.

Anything less expensive is probably crap from eBay, or you have to double the cost to get into some low-end Ohlins.

Another option is these RPY shocks, some forum members have good things to say but I don't have any so I can't really comment:

http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=84120&highlight=livengood

And I have 90° stems in my gold Comstars (boomies), I don't think there is a problem.

Thanks for the shock & stem info.

Those Shinkos look more like long life touring tires than sporting tires; which is what I'm more interested in getting.

I think there are others here that run these, plus read the Randakk blog opinion:

http://www.randakksblog.com/tire-recommendations/

Plenty of more expensive tires, I’ve run both Bridgestone and Pirelli tires but I seem to return the Shinko tires when the rear shows enough wear. I then replace both the front and rear for about $125 (before motorcycle-superstore.com was acquired).

I have had great success with Pirelli Sport Demons - very sticky but get about 6K miles out of the rear. Shinkos 230 touring tires I have on my GoldWing and CTX1300. Great tire, nice grip, with plenty of water drainage.

I'll agree with Rick and Brian, the Shinko Tour Master is a great tire at a VERY reasonable price. Even in Canada, I can get a pair of Shinko's for the price of one Pirelli Sport Demon (rear). I have also run Bridgestone BT45, Pirelli sport demons, and finally the Shinko's. I can get 2 riding seasons out of a rear tire on my 11F.

Several of us ride on the Shinkos and they perform well at the NE rides. The riding is pretty aggressive with lots of hard cornering, so I think they're a great sport touring tire and an incredible deal. I won't put any other tires on my stock 1100F's after having these...

Ok, I'll try the Shinkos.

110/90-19 & 130/90-18 ?

I use the 100/90-19 on the front of my CBX, 750F and 900F. The 110 looks to big and bulky IMHO. The Shinko 230's are a good tire, I have done a track day on them on my 900 (actually a 985) and they stuck like glue.

So, is 100 the generally chosen size? Has anyone tried the 110?

I used a 110, it looks much better on the rim and performs well.

Best,

Yea, what's with that? Did JP Cycles buy them out? Motorcycle Superstore Tire deals don't seem to be as good as they once were.

I sell Gazi, YSS, Wilbers and Hyperpro suspension if you like any of those brands. prices from under $300.00 up to fully custom built just for you. I can match the US importers cost on these and appreciate the business.

I sell the most of Gazi and their Hyper X top of the line piggyback fully adjustable shocks at $750.00 shipped to you. These are very nice shocks that have compression and rebound adjustments, 5mm ride height adjustments and preload adjustments. Springs are set for your bike and weight. Lengths are for 300mm up to 375mm. With 40mm pistons and 15mm shafts. fully rebuild able.

Or their Hyper Light piggyback shocks with rebound adjustments, ride height and preload at $500.00 shipped to you. In my opinion these are better shocks than the Ohlins HO140's due to the adjustments of the shocks that are not on the Ohlins. Much better bang for the buck.

Here is a link to see the Gazi shocks they are made in Australia and I met the owners at Eastern Creek last year. Very nice motorcycle guys and a small company with a great product.

Peace, Jim
