Troy Corser confirmed as a starter for the Australian team riding the T-Rex Harris Honda.

Great news, not if you're the opposition though!

great stuff, this classic racing based around the old school modern era is really growing - over our side its the likes of Jammie Whitham, Guy Martin, Jim Moodie that are having a go- and the Top TT riders are back well supporting the classic racing
better go bag up as many CB / GSX / Z / FJ engine spares you can find before they sky rocket in keeping these lads happy

I did post this on my restoration thread but saw this and thought how appropriate for this thread.. would like to see Guy Martin putting an RC through its paces would make great TV in HD!

If you have not seen this video on youtube I suggest you start at part 12 and follow through or just be gratuitous and start on part 14.. through to 16 ..Wayne Gardner in the six hour 1982 on a CB1100R... its amazing stuff.. hairy chested big balls stuff.. on 530lb machines from a bygone age..

UK team confirmed. Some new faces with a mix of young guns and old heads should make for a formidable team.

Team USA finally getting serious with the aforementioned Colin Edwards joined by Jason Pridmore and Jake Zemke.

This is going to be epic!

don - appreciate with your "local" knowledge if there is any TV / video broadcast we can access in the UK ( or if there is local TV and you can copy it - dunno what ever - but if you could help us watch this battle - I for one would be much appreciated
Colin Edwards / Troy Corser / Jeremy Williams battle alone will be epic - add in the long list of other brilliant riders - this could blow motogp into the weeds Cool

For me the atmosphere beats MotoGP hands down. To my knowledge there is no live video coverage which is a pity. There have been some short films made from past events that you can watch on Vimeo e.g.,

Watched a lot of these videos from the Phillip Island Classic many times.
According to the roster, the rider in this one was on an '82 Katana 1294.

One of the top Katana teams (actually, the bike you referenced in a previous post) has decided to fight fire with fire and upgraded their bike to Period 6 rules by adding 4 piston calipers and Mikuni RS flatslides to the bike. It'll be very interesting to see how Troy Corser goes on the T-Rex Harris-Honda. The bike is underpowered compared to the opposition but they have Troy Corser onboard.

Actually it more like FJ 1300 (capacity limit) and even later internals from the XJR and this is the very reason we will not enter. The rules are being stretched and more so each year and it already has had a massive destabilising effect on the rank and file Australian P5 class.
If you look past the hype, marketing and endless infatuation with names you will realise that this event is a complete snow job.

The International Challenge is just that, a challenge. It's not a championship, there are no sheep stations on the line. After all, how could anyone possibly harmonise rules across 5 countries? It'd be a task beyond the UN. Is it that different to the Spa event where there are all sorts of funky rules?

The classic is a festival with a fun vibe that the fans love and as far as I can tell most of the competitors do to because there are plenty of events across all categories to keep everyone happy. It's great to see the various countries make the effort to get involved and put up their hot bikes and hot racers and have a crack at the best track in the world.

can see both sides - Spa? part why I have a lot of admiration for the Neate family - their champ winning bike is more period classic than they were in the late 70,s - the only modern thing on their's is the bum of their sons on the seat
then I see a growing bunch of old school racing legends sparing up against each other - the likes of the Philip island challenge is a magnet for them and its great to see Cool - something going on there is growing and attracting big interest

tough issues that must dominate discussion at every one of these race meetings - if there was an obvious answer - it would have been obvious by now
i'll sit on the fence and enjoy the racing - if I see the same thing hammering past everyone else down the back straight - i'll switch off - if I see an obviously old school bike doing it - as they pass the FJ's and the like - i'll have all fingers crossed they make it to the finish line

In talking with my buddy/supermoto engine builder, (he is/was Jake Zemke's crew chief since forever) the biggest complaint he has at the moment (oiling the track actually is biggest but second biggest) is the close ratio 6 speed that McWilliams has that allows him to squirt away coming out of corners.

Just watched a video of someone interviewing Colin Edwards and Troy C. I nearly pissed my pants laughing so hard as Colin made fun of Carry's bike being a POS not once but twice in a 20 min interview. That made my day as we know how I feel about Scary Andrews. I will give him credit as Colins trap speeds show Carry's bike is the fastest in a straight line at PI. The guy can build great bikes but he is such a turd in real life that it is a pitty. The man knows a bunch but will take his knowledge with him to his grave. Which is OK with me.

I don't know who the Aussie is with the fastest lap times but it gives me hope for next year. I met an Aussie at the Barry Sheene FoS in 16 and he will race my bike in '19 for me. He has or maybe had the lap record at PI (for a stock 600cc bike) at a 1:40 even. Not sure if that record still stands but it says a bunch about how well Mark knows the track and his ability.

Peace, Jim

Another great weekend at the Island. Click on the link to see some of the pics I took. You don't have to be on Facebook to see them.

Barely turned a wheel. It suffered from an overheating problem. The bike was just built and thrown on the trailer for the trip down to the island with no testing at all. They threw the dice on that one.

All of them I believe, even Rex (TRex Racing) uses my guide and tensioner, chains and shift detents. I've supplied a lot of these parts to Australian racers.
