I check the alignment from both the sprocket then recheck it from the chain. Checking from 2 points should be better than only 1.

That sounds very prudent, I like the way you think.

Way back when as a snot nosed kid, my neighbor was a master cabinet builder. He was kind enough to let me hang around and help him with basic tasks.

One of the earliest things he taught me was,, "Measure twice before you cut once."

I carried that lesson into adult life

Welded 1.5 inch extensions onto a 900 headlight bracket as they are too short to fit the 1100F triple trees.

Development and refinement of the 985 continues. Worked on a valve cover leak, and made a change to the carb configuration:

Runs a lot better, but still not perfect, still some work to be done.

Question: Word is to glue the boots into the airbox, what specific product is used to do this?

Clutch is still slipping in 3rd, need to figure out the clutch mods and get that done when I get back from vacation...

Not today...................Yesterday....................Raced it and had a great weekend.
For our opening shot in real competition with the Australians we finished the last race in 3rd (Australian bikes in 1st and 2nd) but still in front of a few more of them. Bike improved in every race and we still have another 1000 RPM to unload. We are still testing everything and limiting it to 10500 for this meeting and even at that we definitely have a contender. I even had a few Australians looking for me in our pit to ask what have we done and why was our bike so fast. I even had them wanting my parts there and then holding cash in hand and that is not something that normally happens.

Hey cliffiec, I see PODS! Good for you.. Curious on which route you went, the RSC Carb Jetting mod or what I did, changing the Primary and Secondary jet sizes...

Maybe you could add your jet settings, to my post, "My carb jetting for Pods". That way, members could benefit from various carb jettings for pods, on one thread..

Fastest Honda though! Lap times improved with every race which is always a good sign but unfortunately so did the competition. Mind you Cameron Donald could be on a BSA Bantam and still win!

Mel, I'm nowhere near as "methodical" as you are: I've been frustrated with the carburetion of this bike, and was really just looking to make a change, to look for a better result. As I said, it's better. I made an effort to get the carbs seated better into the boots (in an attempt to eliminate a possible vacuum leak), and may go back to the airbox, if I can figure out the correct adhesive to use to glue the boots into the box. At least the bike is rideable now, so I'll stay with the pods for a couple of hundred miles. A couple of tanks of gas, and maybe some Seafoam, and we'll see where we are. All that said, the carbs are jetted stock, and I should probably mention that I'm at 5200 feet above Seal Level.

Probably close to the final days of riding so I took the R out for a 100 mile sprint and when I returned, took pictures, drained the carbs, pulled and drained the tank and just a teeny bit of fogger into the cylinders. Thought the slower 1100F would like to have its picture taken also, so with that accomplished, they began the argument about who was faster, better handling etc. etc. Not any debate here, the R leaves the F in its tracks.

Juanita, your R may be faster than the F, but that's OK, the F is just sooooo good looking.

I ordered brake caliper rebuild kits for the beautiful calipers that TomK powdercoated for me:

And a set of jets for the 985, per Melchiros recommendation. Rejetting will happen when they come in.

Will also install a new clutch pusher in the 985, with the hole in the shaft filled. This is on the recommendation of Frank, to fix the clutch slipping in 3rd gear.

Fantastic looking bikes! And yes, there is always dirt or grease somewhere! Smile I'll trade you the 900F straight-up for either one of yuors! Laughing

Thanks John, I really wish I could say I planned it this way, but the truth is I just got lucky. My wife agreed to have the painting of the body parts as my Fathers Day/Birthday gift, and that has really been the "finishing touch". Once the jetting and clutch issues are addressed, this will be a nice rider for a long time. I'd like to bring it to the Spring or Fall ride, maybe someday.

Ran the valve on my 900. Had no compression on #3 cylinder, but valves were so tight, I was surprised it ran at all.

This is a little story that is not quite about "what did you do to your bike today?" but in this case it is what I did about my bike over the last couple of weeks.

A little background first.

I have formed a relationship with an Italian Company that is very proactive in helping me to develop my next generation cylinder head for our race program. I am in possession of a AHM "cheater" head as most of you already know and from this and it's unique properties we are further developing an improved design to take it to the next level.

The story.

I have just returned from a trip to Italy to discuss in person and inspect a prototype head being machined for me and to decide the correct methods and processes for it. The trip was very successful to say the least and what is being carried out will almost eliminate all the current design deficiencies and allow for a massive increase in power.............Serious power......... and projected to be well beyond anything seen before with an "F" head on gasoline. Without going into the combustion chamber and valve configuration details, there was also another very positive development that came to light during this time that should be of real interest to all.............
During my visit to and during discussions with this company a very successful method for dramatically altering the ports and angles was developed. It is this fundamental change from OEM that is the most effective of all the modifications currently underway and the design and placement of the new ports alone, is so effective that the OEM restrictive valve overlap issues are no longer a problem for both street and track use!!!!!! This new altered intake port, in both size, shape and orientation is an absolute game changer, and best of all it is the most cost effective (cheaper). It does however alter dramatically the carb positions and spacing and so mandates that any intended carburation will require the spacing changed to suit.

Once I have finalized the details and costs, completed testing (in the coming months) a production version will be made available to anyone interested.

Captain

Cool. The Italians are very good at pattern making and casting. You should start a separate thread about this Brent.

More details will follow in the months to come.

Does a full service on the briggs and stratten quantum XE40 count?
Oil flush and change
New spark plug
New air filter
all covers off and 20 years of accumulated dirt removed.
