I spent the weekend wrestling the rims, and fiddling with my steering stem. I had forgotten the wheel bearing spacer between the two bearings on the rear rim, so I had to go buy a bearing puller kit from HF. What a junk kit BTW. Finally pulled one of the bearings out, and got the retainer in, then the bearing went back into the freezer. I then attempted to begin building the front end. All seemed good, I unthreaded my triple tree steering stem nut, pulled the tre apart, and seated in into the frame, but then the final nut wasnt threading. No matter how I tried, it just wouldnt thread. I have been contacting local machine shops to try and get the threads conditioned but nobody wants to work on that. I may just buy another steering stem online if I cant figure this out. I will pick up a thread file today if I can. Such a pain

I took a risk and ground off a full rotation of the threads that were buggered, then cleaned them with a threadfile. The steering stem nut threaded! Back in business. Today I finished seating the bearings in the rim (this time with the rear spacer in the rim), got all the new oil seals set in, new speedo drive, new retainers all in, my wheels are officially built and ready for valvestems and rubber. I will be taking them to the shop tomorrow for a mount and balance, then I can finally begin building my roller.

Dropped my assembled rims off at the shop.for mount and balance. The guy I worked with gasped at the wonderful powdercoat they had. I can't decide If I want to white letter the tires or not...

made my 1st puppet bike Laughing been struggling for days to work out how to positions the seat without there being any frame rails - if you look closely you'll see the seat is attached to the roof, not the bike
sorry its not a CB engine, in the interests of getting on the road i've reverted to a great all rounder oil cooled GSXR1100 but the frame was built around the CB cases - it will become a CB once I get an engine built for it

I did some simple stuff today to keep my sanity. New grips on the 985. The old ones had 16,000 miles on them and were a bit worn. Once we get some color besides white outside I will put the new ones to good use!

Last Saturday I took my front wheel in to a local powder coating shop.
I should get it back tomorrow.

I'm now on a weeks holiday. I'm having a new kitchen fitted and my garden needs a lot of work.
But I'll be putting my front suspension back together again, with all new bushes and seals etc.
I was hoping for a set of newer front brake discs as well, but that fell through. I got a newer drilled rear brake disc off a guy in Holland. He said he had a pair of fronts, but it turned out they were warped Sad

Once the front is done, I'll be able to turn my bike around, so I can get my rear wheel out. Then that can go for powder coating at the same place.

I'm STILL waiting for my re-repainted tank. Although I managed to contact the painter through Facebook, and he has promised to bring my tank to me a couple of times, I'm still tankless. As I can now contact him ONLY through Facebook, getting irate with him could easily lead to my only means of contact being cut off. So I have to bite my tongue and be patient with him Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Maybe, Chico. I might bring both the 750 and the beast.

Today I flipped my exhaust cam 180, since I had messed it up a couple nights ago - and got her running. Cams were out to replace the B chain tensioner. I also replaced the tensioner bolt, and heli-coiled my head for it.

In the last two weeks, I have replaced grips, all bulbs with LED as some of my instrument bulbs were out. New rear wheel bearings and seals. New X-ring chain and new sprockets. Disassembled and cleaned one front and the rear caliper, and have new pads in all three. I also had a full Hondaline fairing on the bike, which is now up in my bedroom, along with my luggage rack and sissy bar, so my bike is looking pretty small/naked.

I think I'm ready for this snow to be gone, and this rain to stop!

Yesterday I thought the tail light was a bit dim. On further inspection one bulb was gone so I replaced it. When replacing the lens I noticed that some of the screws were not holding well. Seemed that the part they screwed into was a bit stripped. Resolved to "one day" do something about it.

Went for an awesome blast today. Putting her back on the paddock stand today I noticed that the rear tail light lens was...gone... Rolling Eyes

Retraced my ride in the car scanning for the lens. Nothing found. Well deserved I guess. Embarassed

Thats a bummer Robbo! I just fitted my repainted engine side covers and valve cover. Of course it now leaks and I have to fix it Wink Also found what I thought was al leaking oil line is probably a bad fitting on the oil cooler, so I have a new cooler ready to fit too.

Here is an ebay rear lens assembly that may help. Not an AU lens with reflector, but it does have the backing that you stripped http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-1982-1981-Honda-Super-Sport-CB900-Taillight-Tail-Light-33701-422-673-/351279910430

or just the lens http://www.partsnmore.com/parts/honda/cb900f/?filters%5Bfitting%5D=custom

I installed the magic Wout clutch damper kit... the hardest part was centering the punch marks to drill the rivet heads 😆. The 750 also got new clutch fibers and ebc springs. Carbs coming off today for cleaning and a valve clearance check.. BTW... the old rattle rattle ding ding is now gone. the old rubbers were like rock solid but in perfect form..

I noticed a 9mm socket fits the rivet head perfectly, then use a transfer punch sized for the socket ID to make the center mark. Haven't tried it yet but seems like it should work.

Adjusted valves, did coil mod using brackets of my own design. Engine started the first time after winter. Last season it had extra sound coming from head when idling, I suspected too wide valve clearances. Today I found four valves which clearance was >0.2mm. With correct clearances that sound is gone, it runs really nicely. I think throttle response is much better now with the CBR coils.

The brackets are first prototype, next ones for my 1100 will be a little wider. Still made of 3mm steel.

Last month with parts from Tom1960 and a warm workspace complete with instructions from SillyGoose I removed my forks and rebuilt them.

Been waiting a warm day to put them back on so today +4C was the day. Now to get those brakes on.
