This looks like a good process to watch (for me anyway). I was just a bit disappointed when I open the thread and didn't see any pictures but I'm a little slow learner anyway and just barely noticed that link to your pictures on photobucket! Razz Wink Laughing

So............ just in case there are other slow learners, I posted the pics below:

Good luck on your rebuild.

Here's the link to the Photobucket Album in case more pictures are added:

There now, I feel better! Twisted Evil Laughing

Joe,

Just trying to help and keep some humor. I can be a real DA for sure. Click on the QUOTE button on the post I made with the pictures and you will see how to post them. It is the internet path with IMG on either end. Like this:
Code:
[IMG]http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u309/j75vette/1%20sad%20F/DSC00452.jpg[/IMG]
Photobucket has a table under each photo and the IMG code is easily copied and pasted into your post.

Good luck on your restoration.

Dave

After a trip to the Honda shop to order parts,I started getting the engine parts ready for the rebuild.[img]Image[/img][img]Image[/img][img]Image[/img] I really like this powdercoating, total time on these covers was about one and a half hours and they are ready to use Very Happy
The camchain damaged the head when it was pushed from the sprocket by broken guide trash so it required a little tig work. [img]Image[/img][img]Image[/img] Tig,reshape and after powdercoat I don't think you can notice.

Wow, You're moving right along. I don't recall ever seeing anyone fix a hole in a crank case before.

Did you say it was running when you got it?

That's a cylinder head, not a crank case. The crank case holds the crank... And other important bits and pieces. Laughing

But I am blown away... You have some serious skills dude!! Looks like you need to replace those pitted cams though?

Yes I was just showing what I found on disassembly and what 12 years of sitting can do.Scored a nice set of cams and followers from one of our friends in Canada. Very Happy Thanks so much for the compliment.I hope some of what I post will help/encourage others they can do it to.Yes there are parts of these engines that can be saved with a Tig no problem.

For those that might want to know these pictures show how simple a fork seal replacement is.
1.Remove allen bolt from lower[hope better shape than this one],dust seal and snap ring.Hold the tube and give the lower a couple of slide bumps down with your other hand and should come off easily.
[img]Image[/img]
2.Assemble in reverse order. Now is a good time to replace both bushings also.Remember this slot MUST aline with screw.

On the TRAC units check the condition of the rubber stopper which faces the piston in the piston collar well. On my used TRAC units some were completely flattened/rotted.
This allows a fair bit of play on the piston collar. The rubber just prises out with a little screw driver. Part number 51441-MC7-003.

I had hoped to have the cylinder on also but received a 750 base gasket which does not work to well on a 1100 Sad As much as I prefer genuine Honda parts I just could not bring myself to pay the price for the valves.I ordered a full set of Vesrah valves. What is the opinion of these from those that have used them?

Still waiting on engine parts so took the time to get the rear shocks cleaned up.I tried a different method on the springs and seemed to work well.I gave them a light bead blast,I know but what the hell they looked like crap.I then buffed with white compound and you can see the results Very Happy

Looks really nice!!!

I just wish that someone could rebuild them so they'd work like they did when new. Places I've checked with (Race Tech, Aftershocks) won't touch them. Probably couldn't get seals and parts anymore, if they ever could be disassembled and rebuilt.
