i have been using a 140X80X18 bridgestone BT 45 on the back...Tyre is now a bit worn so I ordered a new one only problem is they sent me a 140X70X18....The profile is low and im worried the tyre wont hold when pushing the twisties.....

I never owned an R and just will guess that it's wider than a US spec 18inch starcomb. There is no problem with going to a lower profile. In fact all modern sportbikes and cars run low profile tires. Closer you can get the road surface to the rim, less sidewall deflection you will have, giving a more firm and stable cornering load. 80 and 90 profile tires are the thing of the past and it's almost impossible to find them other than in hard compounds for cruisers. The only problem you MAY have, is 140 may be a bit too wide for the rim you have and pushing the two sidewalls together by a narrow rim makes the 140 wide section cup and decreases the contact patch. When decreasing the profile the tire cups (bows out) even more making the acctual contact patch more like one on a 120 tire. I've put 140/70 tire on a US spec 2.5 inch wide rim next to a 130/80 mounted on the same rim and 130 appears almost half an inch wider on each side. Long story short, lower profile wont hurt at all, it should make things better. Though it may aggrivate a problem you already may have by running a tire one size too wide.

Well the 140/80V18 rear BT45 is still available here in the USA. I show the 140/70H18 rear as being available in both the H (130MPH/209.3KPH) & V (150MPH/241.5KPH) speed ratings. the 140/80 only comes in the V rating. So if I do what I am best at, over simplifying things, I would say "they" screw-ed up and sent you the wrong tire.
