Well, me and my wife have decided it about time to leave California. I was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula and I have spent nearly 60 years living in the area. 2018 I retired from the Fire Service and my wife position was eliminated from the property management company she was working for.
We decided that the cost of living, taxes and the changing dynamics of our state are just worth the cost.

We have sold our home, packed our personal belongings in effort to hit the road to travel to Tennessee. Once we arrive in the area we will start the search for our forever home.
Hopefully, I will be able to find some talent in the area in an effort to complete my builds.
If you are on Facebook. We will be sure to post updates since we will traveling the Northern route to Tennessee.
Thanks for your support. |
What county, city, town, village, unincorperated area or sticks are you moving to? |

We are planning on the Knoxville area. Some where near the east side near the smoky mountains. I purchased a motorhome so we don’t have to worry about our accommodations. The housing market seem to be hot right now so we figured this would be a good option for us as well.
Thanks |

Interesting... I plan on moving to the Knoxville area within a couple of years - for the same reason! New York is another stupidly high tax/cost state. |

Brian I think you'll miss what NYC has to offer. Opera, theater, museums, music, great restaurants and of course Central Park, traffic and nice people.

I’m sure I will miss a fair amount of the area of the center coast. San Francisco has a lot of food and culture to offer. Unfortunately, things have gotten to expensive to visit on a regular basis. |

Sorry Chico. Won't miss a damn thing about NYS. Not NYC tri-state and Long Island anyways.
Nashville, Lexington, Memphis and even Knoxville have plenty of culture. Besides, its closer to fantastic riding - not the milk runs here 😁. Won't miss the pugnacious/elitist attitude that is so prevalent downstate. Won't miss the incredibly ridiculous out of control cost of living. Albany continues to screw its citizens without batting an eye.
But I digress.... I will miss being able to get great pizza in TN. 😯 |

I have spent some travel time in Tennessee. I am quite sure you will love it there. It is also a central location for travel to Florida and in-between or some of the East coast cities. Lots of history in that area of the country. Good decision! |

Here’s a quick run down of states we have traveled during our journey to Tennessee.
Nevada
Utah
Colorado
New Mexico
Oklahoma
Kansas
So far we dealt with very little weather related issues and seen some great scenery during our travels.
You can follow us on Facebook if you like to see some of the pictures we have posted. |

Happy travels. My thinking is that one can run, but can't hide. I like my area in SoCal for now. If proposition 13 ever gets squashed by the tax hungry libs, then I am gone. |

Good thing you're not moving to the Nashville area.. Davidson county just raised property taxes by 34%. My property taxes on my 1160 sq ft house on .22 acre just went from $1865/yr to $2499/yr. |

That sucks. Tn doesn't have State income though does it?
Here in NH we don't have state income or sales tax BUT our property tax makes up for it. 1100sqft .3 acres $6500/year tax. My property tax is higher than my mortgage! |

6.5 acres $1100 bucks. No income tax, sales tax is higher though like 7.25. Corn, cows and cotton. And a dusting of snow today, WTAF??? |

You are going the wrong way and should have relocated south west to New Zealand LOL
It has its local problems just like everywhere but overall is a very nice place to be.

On Long Island NY... 1 acre $25K 8.63% sales tax plus 9% state income tax. Now tell me how tough it is... |

Well, it looks like we will be calling Loudon Tennessee our next home. We are currently in contract and we are working towards getting all of the inspection completed so we have good idea what the property needs to have done within the first six months living there. We will be doing some remodeling once we a clear plan and a contractor who can handle the details in a timely fashion.
Hopefully, I’ll have shop area created within this timeline so I can move my projects into and start searching for some of the fabrication services in the Knoxville area.
Stay tune for more details. |
