No you don't have a problem, Ed.
Only enablers here.

www.sohc4.net is your new friend.
I did a couple 400F years ago and it was an excellent, active site.

We're still here, but we don't do SOHC either, just 79-83 DOHC C, K, CS, and such.

1. Place in top gear:
a. Does the crank spin? Not seized then.
b. Pull clutch lever. Did the clutch break loose so the bike rolls in gear?

2. Unscrew the lower 'service/season screw' at the bottom of the bowl.
a. Is the screw tip dry and clean metal as the whole screw's color? Someone drained the carbs, it's add gas and start.
b. Is the screw tip green and wet? This is a teardown situation, and NAPA carb dip for 12 bucks is your friend... 20 minutes; more or less is the chemRE.
c. Is the bowl filled with stale gas once breaking the screw's seal? NAPA carb dip, sans all rubber... If needle spring is stuck, hold the needle upright and dip in a cut down coke can so the spring is submerged some is the body, not the rubber tip... or you're fuk'd ... N/A is the part... unless K&L has both bowl and needle/seat kits as a set. Machined slide and covers turn the rubber slide combo obsolete for the CV carb. Lucky you.

3. Air cleaner cartridge is N/A. NAPA's catalog might show dimensions so bring it. Maybe there's a match in the book. I don't know about foam and vinegar, but with warm soapy water/vinegar; say is a 3rd worth in a bowl/jar/something narrow; so it sits for a few days. Shake occasionally between day. Repeat with new mix until clean. Dry in the sun. Pick it up and aim it at the sun so you can see if the pleats are clear enough. Look at it in the sunlight before you clean it. Then you can tell the difference.

4. There's a sticker on the down tube of the frame somewhere. This tells you the valve lash.
a. Do this first, then check compression. Sitting outdoors might seize the piston rings so no movement to seal.
b. One or two cylinders might be low on compression, being the valves were open and rust set in, so poor seal. But if the other two show higher compression, it will be knocked off on startup, and run it some, then check those numbers again for a change up in compression.

5. General wear sitting and things to look for.
a. Since the tires look like they were sunk a little in the mud, the chances of water in the crankcase is the question. So the oil pan gasket is still available; you pull the pan and clean it, check the oil pump screen and all that rust on the transmission gears, etc.
b. With the seat and tank off for wire inspection, look for rats chewing on the harness for bedding and such.
c. Pull the connectors and look for the green chemRE off the brass/copper connector ends. Dip the whole plastic connector end in non diluted vinegar. Wait for the bubbles to stop REacting, then dip the connector in fresh water to wash the acid and debris off the connectors. Especially anything to do with ignition, and those associated with startup. Ask me how I know.

The time waiting for the dip, the valves are done, the oil is out of the way, and I'm sacrificing just what is going to be touched by the dip, is the complete carb assembly being half dipped in the carb clean can. So the assembly is complete, sans the float/needle/jets/slides, etc. But, whatever touches the fuel transfer tube orings, it's a crapshoot no leaks occur. The bodies are not tampered with ruining the sync, the screw heads to assemble the bodies, etc.

Say a few hours to a half a day's work and it's up and running. Someone else... days. It's all there if the park was just no time to ride it/got spooked with traffic, or the thrill is gone. But broken internally is the sitter? That's why you roll it first, drop the pan next to see if the parts are sitting at the bottom, then proceed.

Chris, as far as I know it ran, I have no intention of doing a restoration on it. I'm just going to se if I can get it running, maybe then I'll put some knobies on it and run it in the dirt 😝. Its just something to tinker with in my spare time.

I saw a 1982 GPz 1100 on eBay that I would love to have since my 900 and GS1100 are both 1982s. I couldn't afford it, but I posted on FB that I would like it. A friend with THREE Mustangs and an F150 told me "you don't need another bike." Don't you wish people would mind their own business?

I wouldn't have turned that 650 down either.

For me, there just something about those 650's that look so good - I think Honda got the proportions just right. A buddy's wife has a mint one and it looks great going down the road.
