For the past few weeks, a few of us made plans to do riding on Saturday and go to Rice-O-Rama, the largest annual Japanese motorcycle show in New England. The recent hurricane has us worried that our riding plans might be nixed, but things worked out. My future son-in-law Tom (good name) showed up early around 8:30 on his CBR500 so we could change his oil and filter. Eric, aka Sachelrhymes, arrived before 10am Saturday and we were on the road before 11. For the next 4+ hours we road all around Central Massachusetts on many of my favorite roads. One of my very favorites is Charnock Hill Road in Rutland, which is a 6 mile stretch of twists and turns that gets better and better along the way. It's also a road that has Larry's (CBXDog) ashes scattered on both ends. Here are our bikes parked outside a tiny café in Hardwick, MA, where we stopped for lunch.

The weather got better as the day went on and by the time we were done, we were satisfied with a good day's "work" of riding. After loading a couple of my bikes into the trailer, a fine Thai dinner followed.

Sunday morning we were on our way to the show by 9:30, with RMII and my stock red 1100F in tow. As usual, the show was not a disappointment. There were tons of beautiful show bikes and lots of parts vendors. If you came looking for some parts for your bike, it would be impossible not to find at least one thing you needed.

I entered RMII in the show and enjoyed watching it get lots of attention. It was funny how many people were crouching down to look at the CBR600RR swingarm and how it was attached. Some guys were unfamiliar with the "CB1123F" and didn't know that Honda made one. Wink Whenever I came back in to look at bikes, I had the opportunity to talk with various bikers who stopped to see mine. The bike received many nice compliments and lots of interest. Ironically, this 1100F was parked next to it:

This bike has been at the show every year that I've come. I don't get all the chrome trim and chromed covers, but to each his own...

I met a guy named Tom (another good name) who was familiar with my build through Facebook. It turns out that he's done business with our own JJam and had Jim's solid motor mount kit on his 900F RM. Here it is - a very nicely done build with some great upgrades:

We chatted for quite a while and I found us to have a lot in common. Like me, he has a part-time bike business which is obviously his passion. Such a nice guy - I'm sure we're going to cross paths again.

At one point I came across this bike on a trailer in the vendor area:

For some reason it made me think of a member here. I wonder who that could be?

This bike was restored by a friend of mine for one of his best friends:

The flawless body work is all NOS, located from various parts of the world. The tank has never had gas in it. The motor is rebuilt, but it will never run as long as the present owner has it.

There are two bikes on this trailer, although you can only see two from this angle:

Here's the other side:

All gorgeous bikes and like new. Unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to speak with the owner.

Well I'm off to work. I'll post more pics tonight when I get home tonight.

Some nice bikes there. The 900F looks odd with the mix of 81/82 tank and covers.

Some more pics from the show. I don't know what the heck it is, but I think Vince needs it:

and some more beauties:

Freaking eye candy - it deserved right and left shots:

And what bike show would be complete without a CBX?

That VMax to the right was gorgeous and took first place in the class I had my red 1123 RM. I didn't even get an honorable mention! Confused Oh well.

And a couple of oddities:

All in all, it was a fun show. I met a lot of people who wanted to know about my build. Lots of people took pictures of it and had nice things to say, so I felt good just having it there. I know Eric had a great time too, so it was a good time for everyone. I'm glad I got to go this year - I've missed it too many times since 2013. I'll be back there next year for sure.

Love the NS400

Maybe we can hit that show on one of our rides...

Tom I'm glad you posted this. I didn't take a bunch of pics but the ones I did I had trouble posting, so thank you.

I really dig that show. there's just so much to look at. between the parts, show bikes, bikes for sale, so much for sale, to the bikes from people riding in. even that was sweet. I saw an 80 silver 750 with cr carbs from NY so I was wondering who that was. when I was leaving I had a black 750f pass by me. but just so many bikes. I really think it'd be awesome to make this part of a ride someday. I don't see how you guys wouldn't be into it. I left around 1 so I didn't get home too late. good times.

for an example as to the quality of the show builds the fact that Tom's bike didn't place just shows how nice they are. considering Tom's bike is basically perfect.

and I got to ride the crap outta both of Tom's rest mods. my fist time on RMII. it was heavenly. pure joy. those two bike are the ultimate of our bikes in my opinion. so sweet.

so thanks Tom. I really had a great weekend and helped with being bummed about not making the fall ride.

Eric.

Nice pics Tom! Looks like a show I'd like to attend. Glad the weather cooperated for you guys.
Now, which one of your retro-mods is faster...the red one with the Yosh replica pipe or the blue bike with the Hindle?

Chris,

Just come next year with ScrambleBob and we'll make it a Central MA ride/Rice-O-Rama weekend.

I have no idea which one is faster, but I can tell you this: they're both WIKKID fast! Cool
