VP110 Race Gas

Question for the Experts, or, members who have used this fuel..

There is a local fuel station, that carry this stuff..
Curious if this would make my CB-F Track Bike run better? I know that, "Better", is a relative word..

Power?
Throttle response?
Changes needed for jetting?
Any concerns with existing carburetor rubber seals?

My motor is 1123cc with Ebay-Cruzinimage pistons.
1000C head with 11.4 to 1 compression.
CBR600 coils, NGK iridium spark plugs.
BST34 carbs.

It runs great on Non-Ethanol, 92 octane premium gas. Just curious about what this fuel can do?

I have used it. Works great. I put 2 bikes in storage once and filled the tanks with it before hand. Obviously not having ethanol in it is contributing factor, but it is also made to last in storage.
The bikes were both stock and I felt that they ran better with it.

Being "leaded" would be a bonus. How much $$ / litre?

you should look into VP MR12 if your looking to make any power from a fuel, but be prepared, it isnt cheap

Race gas has higher energy density than commercial pump gas, so it makes a little more power, not from the octane, but from the extra energy from fewer additives and purer gasoline. Higher octane will interfere with the amount of power a bit, so using the lowest octane race gas you can run at your compression level will produce the most power. Of course since it has no alcohol, it won't phase either, so it will last much longer. And if you can keep the air away from the fuel, it will last almost indefinitely.

When he died, my dad had old non-ethanol gasoline in two 5 gallon military jerry cans that had been stored for 25 years, clear full, no Stabil or other stabilizer, good gaskets and almost no air at all in the cans, and no vents. It was fresh as the day it was made.

The government has had stores of pure gasoline stored in bladderized storage tanks with no air at all. This can be stored for years in case refineries are incapacitated. The gasoline is generally kept pretty secret for obvious reasons like security. It also gets recycled with new over time. Diesel and jet fuel are much easier to store without any loss of efficacy as well. There are also raw crude petroleum reserves, some in hollowed out salt mines and other facilities, but this fuel obviously needs working refineries to be useful.

Even New York now has it's own gasoline reserve since late 2013, 3 million gallons worth.

I don’t think so. The specific energy of pump or “race” petrol is the same because it’s the same base distilled fuel. The difference between them are the additive packages designed around their intended uses.

Yes, the more additives you put in the fuel, the less energy density you get.

15% Ethanol requires that the motor is tuned differently to take advantage of the alcohol. That's why there are "flex fuel" engines nowadays that will take advantage of the E85 fuel by retuning the engine. Of course this comes at the expense of fuel mileage because the motor has to run richer but it may burn cleaner, and of course the ethanol is produced from corn, so there is less dependence on petroleum. I think it's all bullshit really. Better to raise food on cropland and feed the starving peoples of the world. What do they care of air quality when they die by the millions of malnutrition?

But yes, the pure refined gasoline has no difference in energy density until the additives are included. Octane additives also cause a reduction in energy density, but of course we can run much higher compression on VP110, so we get a lot more power from it due to being able to put more A/F into the combustion chamber, so we get more power, but this too causes more fuel consumption, so the fuel mileage goes down this way too.

In the end it’s relatively a seat of the pants evaluation....

Buy some VP

Drain tank

Add VP

Take a blast down your fave road

Drain tank

Add you regular fuel

Take blast down fave road....

If it’s worth the few bucks...then Bob’s your uncle.

Personal note a lil race fuel every now and then has always been a treat for me.

My family drag races cars so there are always a few gallons of fuel sitting around
to be scavenged. Since we use various mixtures for the cars. I typically don’t worry
About what I am dumping in bike because as noted in previous comments race fuel
doesn’t have the cleaners and additives found in pump gas.

Enjoy the ride, don’t sweat the finer details if you just wanna have fun... go have it!

If you’re doing serious tech evaluation... then I am sure folks will eagerly await your full report.
