G'day Fellas.
Sunday I took the rHonda on her first club ride after rebuild. I'd run her in around the block a few times already. Going perfect.
Not a long ride, about 150 miles, with some nice twisty, hilly, narrow country backroads.
On the return leg after liquid lunch I thought I'd check under the motor for leaks. What better way to inspect it than sliding down the road next to her at 70mph. Had a real good view of the sump.
Lucky we were on the soft green bit between the bitumen and treeline before parting company. It was on a narrow country road over Saddleback Mountain. Parts never see the sun and are a bit mossy. Down hill right hand bend going twice the recommended speed hit the moss, kiss my ass good by. The alt cover dug a nice furrow in the grass and soft earth.
F/all damage to the bike, not a dent or scratch anywhere. Lucky I was waiting till after 1st service till I put the fairing back on. I'm a bit banged up in both hips but was able to ride the 80 miles home with right leg perched on the alt cover. Using crutches to get around now. X rays don't show any cracks so just soft tissue damage.
Cheers

Reminds me of an old saying, a rolling F gathers no moss.

Glad to hear it wasn't worse for you or the bike.

Musky, glad you are reasonably ok, putting it down at 70mph is usually going to end up ugly. I fell off my Enfield trying to start it and broke my hip. Take it easy and hope you are off the crutches soon

I thought to myself, "Shit, this is going to hurt..." before landing back first in a field of granite boulders. I was right. Bike was a total loss, with a bent frame, but was given to my good friend Doc Olds who rebuilt it and gave it to his son. Can't imagine a better outcome for it! My recovery was aided greatly by many good friends on the forum, whom I will never be able to repay suitably, but will continue to try.

I'm glad you are recovering, man, and glad the bike is relatively unscathed.

Be safe, all!

Rick

70 mph getoff....maybe enough time for "Oh, shi!!" Very glad to hear you are not so badly hurt - it could have been so much worse. Take your time, recover - you've been very lucky - as you can see, a number of us know what it's like. Cheers, celebrate being alive! Very Happy - Ed.

Thanks a lot fellas.
Getting around the house and shed unaided today.
Too busy trying to steer her sideways towards the soft grass to say "Oh Shit". Then watching the bike slide away, hoping it didn't reach the trees.
Yes I'm counting my blessings. I've gone well over the 9 lives.
Cheers

i'm suspecting here is someone with a lot of mature experience - impossible to explain- bit like muscle memory training for a musician or athlete - you just got it for riding bikes - and - in the odd occasion, able to crash one whilst reducing the risk - no shock "freeze" panic or daft over reaction - well done for walking away with the least amount of potential badness Wink

How much gear were you wearing? I was ATGATT in '16 when I went down @~50mph. Destroyed all the gear, but it did its job and insurance paid for full replacement. I was VERY sore, but not a drop of blood and very slightly cracked wrist process.

G'day pidjones.
I was wearing a cheap version of a Dry Rider jacket with elbow, shoulder and back protection. A pair of heavy denim jeans and steel cap boots. Just lucky it was a soft landing.
Finished her 1st service last night and fitted the fairing.
Today I'll give her a wash and take her for a spin.
Yes dear I'll be careful. LOL.
Cheers

Sounds like you got lucky all the way around.

Last time I went down, I had a grade III concussion. Wasn't a ton of fun.

Glad to hear that you are relatively OK.

But the title of your threads reminds me of the old joke.

Q: What goes through the mind of a bug when he hits you windshield?

A: His arse
